1. Present study was made to observe the plasma renin activity in the patients of benign essential hypertension, malignant hypertension, acute or chronic glomerulonephritis, liver cirrhosis with or without ascites, congestive heart failure, and massive bleeding due to various causes. 2. It was found that the substance with constrictive action on the rat colon had the hypertensive action. 3. The normotensive group showed the renin activity of 1.81+/-1.18ng/ml. 4. Benign hypertension group showed the level of 3.14+/-3.27 ng/ml which was the significantly elevated level compared to the normal group. 5. Malignant hypertensive group showed 8.47+/-9.48 ng/ml, which was not only the apparently elevated value than that of normal group, but also showed significant difference from that of benign essential hypertension. 6. The levels of 5.6+/-2.88 ng/ml and 27.5+/-12.36 ng/ml in chronic and acute glomerulonephritis respectively showed the significantly elevated level than the normal group, and the difference between the acute and chronic glomerulonephritis was also found to be significant. 7. The hepatic cirrhosis with or without ascites showed the level of 3.77+/-2.83 ng/ml and 0.80+/-0. ng/ml respectively. The value of the former was the significantly elevated compared with the normal group, and the later was lowered. 8. The level of 11.11+/-4.12 ng/ml was significantly elevated compared to that of normal group in congestive heart failure. 9. It is suggested that the renin activity assumes to be changed to the kind and the phase of the diseases and according to present data of elevated renin activity in essential hypertension, renin may play a secondary role in essential hypertension rather than to be a primary.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the role of MRI in the management of cervical cancer treated by conventional four-field whole pelvic irradiation. METHOD AND MATERIAL: Between 1993-march and 1994-february, 20 patients(4 Stage I B, 3 Stage U A, 13 Stage U B) with invasive cervical cancer were eligible for evaluation of accuracy of conventionally designed lateral treatment field without MRI determination. RESULTS: 5 out of 20 Patients had inadequate margin without MRI. The position of uterine fundus was more important than cervix in correction of field size and the center of treatment field. CONCLUSION: This Preliminary date show MRI determination of uterine position prior to radiotherapy planning is essential in the case of four-field whole pelvic irradiation technique.

Familial polyposis is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. It is characterized by the progressive development of hundreds to thousands of adenomsteus polyps in the large intestine. A patient who inherited the gene for familial polyposis is asually asymptomatic until after puberty, at which time polyps begin to appear. The disease at first non-malignant but after an interval of a few months or years, the development of colon cancer is inevitable. In Korea, several cases were reported, but almost all of the cases had incomplete familial histories. We experienced one case of familial polypasis in 33-year old Korean male who had no malignant changes in the adenomatous polyps. Among his family, his father and his brother have adenomatous polps in the colon and the rectum confirmed through total colonoscopy with biopsy. We report a case of familial polyposis of colon with a brief review of literatures.

PURPOSE: To report a case of multiple eyelid trichilemmomas associated with Cowden syndrome. CASE SUMMARY: A 27-year-old woman presented with multiple upper and lower eyelid skin masses that developed over several years. The masses were as large as whitish millet, and were around the upper and lower eyelid margin and the face. The patient had previously undergone subtotal thyroidectomy for a thyroid mass and a mass excision for extremity hemangioma. Excisional biopsy was performed for the diagnosis, and trichilemmoma was diagnosed based on histopathologic examination. Consequently, multiple trichilemmoma associated with Cowden syndrome was diagnosed, and breast evaluations for existence of further masses were recommended. On breast examinations, intraductal papilloma and fibroadenoma were detected. CONCLUSIONS: The trichilemmoma was a hair-follicle benign tumor that also appeared on the skin around the eyelid. If multiple trichilemmoma is diagnosed, an association with Cowden syndrome should be considered as well as presence of masses in other organs.
