1.Bacteriological Mass Survey on Prostitutes for American Soldiers.
Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1975;8(1):83-88
This survey was carried out on about 240 prostitutes for American soldiers in Bong-Deok Venereal Diseases Clinic, Daegu Korea, through 2 times for two months from October and November 1974. The culture method was used identifing Neisseria and Mimeae species carbohidrate fermentation test was ferformed with phenol red broth base added human serum. Resistance test was informed with disc method in chocholete agar plate. The discs were made by Jong-Geon Dang Pham. Co.. Seoul, Korea. The carrierate of Neisseria genorrheae was 9.8% and there were relatively many carriers of Mimeae. If the direct smear is used only in microscopic diagnosis, it is easily confused to differentiate Gonococcus and Mima, a kind of coccobacilli. Gonococcus resistance to penicillin G was found in one out of 5 cases tested. The most of Mimeae was resist to penicillin G, but the broad spectrum antibiotics such as chloramphenico1 and gentamycin etc was moderatly sensitive.

Peripheral arterial disease(PAD) is a major health problem in the elderly population, so prevalence of PAD is investigated using Edinburgh claudication questionnaire. Subjects were over 65 years old in the kyeongsan county. The prevalence of PAD was 9.0% in total population(8.5% in men, 9.3% in women). definite claudication was 3.9%, atypical claudication was 5.l%. and, grade 1 was 4.4%, grade 2 was 4.6%. The prevalence of PAD was increased with age but not statistically significant. There was no difference of PAD by gender and smoking. PAD was significantly associated with systolic blood pressure positively. But, unexpectedly, PAD was significantly associated with BMl negatively. PAD are important elderly health problem in the our country. so the etiology and preventive methods of PAD will be researched on our country population.

The authors have reviewed 119 cases of ligamentous injuries of the knee in 106 patients who were admitted and treated in the department of orthopedic surgery at Kyungpook National Universty Hospital during the period from 1974 to 1983. Patients were analyzed degree of injuries by clinical test, stress radiogram, double contrast radiogram and arthroscopy depend on the cases. Fifteen cases were treated conservatively and 104 cases were repaired the ruptured ligaments operatively, The results were as follows; 1. Ligamentous injuries of the knee were more prevalent in male 4 times than in female, and frequently occured in 3rd and 4th decade, 57 %. 2. Traffic accidents was most common causes, 77.4 % and athletic injuries was next, 15 %. 3. Medial collateral ligements were most commonly ruptured, 68 cases and its femoral attachment was ruptured most commonly, 32 cases. Single ligamentous rupture was most commonly appeared in medial collateral ligament in 36cases. Combined ligamentous rupture were more common in medial collateral ligaments and anterior cruciate ligaments in 15 cases. 4. On follow up examination, knee joint space was compared with both normal and injured knee. In single medial collateral ligamentous rupture, joint space was opened 0.1 mm more than normal side. In combined lesion of lateral collateral ligaments and both cruciate ligamentous rupture, joint space was opened 2.4 mm more than normal side. 5. Excellent and good results were obtained in 88 cases (81%) by operative treatment and 11 cases (73%) by conservative treatment. Early repair of the ligament, under the 2 weeks, gave much better results than later repair. 6. The results were more successful in single ligamentous injuries (55 cases, 87%) than multiligamentous injuries (38 cases, 68%).

Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1994;27(3):531-546
In a TV component manufacturing factory, 102 male workers aged 20~39 years old were participated in testing for physical fitness. At the same time, worker's periodic health examination was done. Test battery for physical fitness include grip strength, trunk flexing, standing long jump, side step, single leg balance with eye close, push ups and Harvard step test. As a result of testing for physical fitness, synthetically, there is no difference between manufacturing workers and officers. By bioelectrical impedance test, it means a declining tendency to all 7 factors in the obese workers, and so, it is important for obese workers not only to promote physical fitness but also to promote health. Excluding grip strength and single leg balance with eye close, 5 fitness factors are negatively associated with degree of diastolic Blood pressure, but it is statistically not significant. And levels of SGOT & SGPT have no association with physical fitness factors.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1994;28(4):381-388
Forty one cases of Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas were immunohisto-chemi-cally studied for the presence of CD30 antigen on the paraffin embedded formaldehyde fixed tissue by using Ber H2(CD30) monoclonal antibody (Dakopatts, diluted l : 20) and avidin biotin peroxidase complex technique seventy five %(6/8) of Hodgkin's lymphoma and 27% (9/33) of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas were CD30 positive. Five of l7 diffuse large cell and immunoblastic lymphoma and one large cell anaplastic lymphoma showed large numbers of CD30 positive cells. Occasional CD30 positive cells were found in one of 2 angiommunoblastic lymphadenopathy-like T cell lymphoma, one of 4 small lymphocytic lymphoma and one unclassified lymphoma. Immunophenotypically l6% of B cell lymphoma and 42% of T cell lymphoma showed CD30 positivity. six cases of Hodgkin's disease except lymphocyte predominance showed positive tumor cells. Our results show that CD30 is more widespread in histologic subtypes of lymphomas and is not specific for the diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease.

Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1995;28(2):386-397
A cross sectional study was performed to evaluate the neurobehavioral effects of chronic exposure of complex organic solvents, using NCTB(Neurobehavioral Core Test Battery) recommended by WHO(World Health organization). Forty female shoe factory workers and twenty-two controls matched with age were participated. The tests were performed in the morning before start of work, to exclude the effects of acute exposure. Workers were exposed mainly to toluene, methyl ethyl ketone, n-hexane, cyclo-hexane, dichloroethylene, trichloroethylene, benzene, xylenes etc. The ranges of present solvent exposure of hygienic effect were 0.46~0.71 in the process using adhesives indirectly, and 1.83-2.39 in the process using it directly. We reclassified the subjects, according to cumulative exposure. It showed significantly poorer performances in high exposed group on Santa Ana Dexterity and Benton visual Retention, compared with control group. After controlling confounder, the significances were still remained. But, further cohort studies, having the information of personal exposure dose from entering a factory, are required to clarify the effects of chronic exposure of complex organic solvents in relation to dose and duration of exposure.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1994;28(1):90-92
Inflammatory pseudotumor of the Aver is a rare benign lesion that usually has been discovered at laparotomy. This lesion is inflamrhatory and reactive, but the etiology remains unknown. In-flammatory pseudotumor of the liver is of the interest not only because of its rarity also because it needs to be clinically differentiated from hepatocellular carcinoma and other malignant tu-mors. In this report, we describe a case of inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver with fever and weight loss in a 46-year-old male. Grossly, the lesion showed a rather well demarcated, gray white to pale yellowish nodular mass mesuring 7 x 5.5 x 5 cm in dimensions. M icroscqpically, the tumor was composed of diffuse infiltration of predominantly plasma cells, lymphocytes and histocytes associated with fibroblastic proliferation.

Journal of the Korean Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine 2006;10(2):81-88
PURPOSE : To evaluate the MR imaging findings of bowel wall thickening in patients with minimal to moderate cirrhosis, and analyze their clinical significances comparing with laboratory findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS : We assessed retrospectively the MRI findings of 123 patients with minimal to moderate cirrhosis, and compared these with the clinical laboratory findings. We evaluated the involved sites and MR image findings of thickened bowel wall, as well as the presence of collateral vessels, ascites, and splenic size. These were compared with serum albumin and bilirubin levels, and prothrombin time. RESULTS : Gastrointestinal wall thickening was detected at 37 sites in 25 patients (20%), and more frequently detected in moderate cirrhosis (29%) than in minimal cirrhosis (17%). Jejunum and ascending colon were the most common sites of bowel wall thickening; each was involved at 22 and 9 sites, respectively. Ascending colonic wall thickening was more commonly detected in moderate cirrhosis than in minimal cirrhosis. The thickened bowel wall showed symmetric contour, high signal intensity on T2-weighted images, mixed iso- and low signal intensity on T1-weighted images, and homogeneous or target-like enhancement. Serum albumin level was significantly lower in patients with bowel wall thickening (3.3+/-0.9 g/dl vs. 3.9+/-0.7 g/dl;p=0.0024). Serum bilirubin level was significantly higher in patients with bowel wall thickening (1.7+/-1.0 mg/dl vs. 1.4+/-1.2 mg/dl; p=0.0160). Bowel wall thickening did not significantly correlate with the presence of collateral vessels, ascites, splenic size, and prolongation of prothrombin time. CONCLUSION : In minimal to moderate cirrhosis, the MR imaging evaluation of bowel wall thickening was useful for estimating the severity of cirrhosis and laboratory findings.
