In order to studying the action mechanism of moxibustion from a viewpoint of the spontaneous movement, an experiment was attempted to ascertain whether movement dysfunctions of aged rats were able to rejuvenate by multiple moxibustion.
According to the method by Marshall (1979) measured swim performance. Female Wistar rat were used as experimental animals. Since month ago from the beginning of measurement, 15mg of moxa was divided into 6 cones and they were treated by 2 cones at right GB-25, left GB-25 and GV-20 every other week.
The swimming of rats 9 months old was compared with that of 4-month-old rats.
Swim performance in moxibustion receiving animals improved swim only in the performance “success” of 9 months old rats. It is suggested that moxibustion stimulant appears to be rejuvenated movement dysfunctions in 9 months old rats.

L-Dopa methyl ester HCl (Sigma, 100mg/Kg) injected intraperitoneally or vehicle (0.9% NaCl) were given 15 minutes before being placed in the water.
The swimming of rats 10months old was compared with that of 6 month old rats.
L-Dopa rejuvenated the swimming of 10 month-old rats more vigorously and successfully than vehicle-treated. For both measure of swim performance moxibustion receiving animals also improved movement dysfunctions as well as L-Dopa receiving.
It is suggested that moxibustions stimulant appears to be rejuvenated movement dysfunctions in 10 month-old rats.
3.Effect of moxibustion on aged rats. (Report IV). Reversal from movement disoders and recovering the regular cyclicity.

Effect of multiple moxibustion on the regular cyclicity in aged rats and the movement disorders of aged rats has been studied by using the vaginal smear method and the swim test. Vaginal smear were recorded every day during the moxibustion period and swim test were measured by the 15-minute test.
Female rats (Wistar-KY. Shizuoka Lavoratory Animal Center) were used as experimental animals. The swim performance and smear of rats 12 months old was compared with that of 4-month-old rats. 15mg of moxa was divided into 6 cones and they were treated by each 2 cones at right GB-25, left GB-25 and GV-20 once a week.
There were no difference of vigor performance between young abult and aged rats. However, the swimming of rats 12 months old were less successful in keeping their heads above water. These movement dysfunctions of the older animals reversed by the moxibustion treatment once a week, and furthermore, irregular estrous cycles in aged rats were capable of recovering the regular cyclicity by the multiple moxibustion.
It is suggested that these treatment induces the intrinsic enhancement of the activity in host defense system.

Female rats (Wistar) were used as experimental animals and in ovariectomized rats bearing subcutaneous ovaian transplants. 15mg of moxa was divided into 6 cones and they were treated by 2 cones at right GB-25, left GB-25 and GV-20 and 10 times every four days.
In 4-month-old. rats after of the operation, moxibustion receiving animals that an isochronal 4-day sexual rythm established was make a comparative study with normal animals and vehicle control animals for measures of swim performance.
In the present paper it was clarified that for the 15-minute test, the two age gvoups differed significantly for both measures indicating more rapid detrioration of swim performance in 12-month-old rats than in 4-month-old rats. Moreover these movement dysfunctions of aged rats were reserved by the effect of the multiple moxibustion treatment.
Ovariectomized rats bearing subcutaneous ovarian transplants indicate more rapid deterioration of the swimming success in young abult rats than aged rats.
5.Effect of moxibustion on aged rats. (Report 1). Recovering the regular cyclicity by periodic moxibustion.

In order to studying the action mechanism of moxibustion from a viewpoint of the sexual periodicity, an experiment was attempted to ascertain whether the irregular estrous cycles were able to recover the regular cyclicity by preiodic moxibustion in rats ovariectomized and transplanted subcutaneously with the ovaries.
From the day of operation, two groups of the rats were given every four days subcutaneous injections of 2.0mg of progesterone, and 0.5mg of reserpine, respectively, for 40 days. one group of the rats were used as moxibustion animals. 5mg of moxa was every four days divided into 6 cones and they were treated by each 2 cones at right GB-25, left GB-25 and GV-20, respectively, for 40 days. Vaginal smears were recorded every day during the treatment period and subsequent 40 days. It is suggested that an isochronal 4-day rhythm appears to be established as early as about 10 to 20 days after the start of the moxibustion receiving animals and the results of experiment gave nearly agreement with the value that were given every four days injections of 2mg of progesterone, respectively, for 40 days.
6.Effect of multiple moxibusiton on blood coagulation in mice.

In our previous studies, blood coagulation and fibrinolytic activity after single moxibustion were found to change within the range of physiological variability in mice. In this paper, the effect of multiple moxibustion on the activity of blood coagulation was examined by using male ddY mice (6 weeks old). 15mg of moxa was divided into 6 cones and mice were treated by each 3 cones at right and left LV-14. The multiple moxibustion schedule was a total of 5, 10 and 15 treatments. There was no effect of multiple moxibustion on body weight and Ht. 5 treatments of moxibustion showed a significant decrease in PT (p<0.05) and 10 treatments showed an increase in the ma value of TEG and in HPT activity. No significant change in PTT nor ATIII activity was found following multiple treatments of moxibustion.
These results showed that the enhancement of blood coagulation did not continue during multiple moxibustion even though single moxibustion stimulated the activity of blood coagulation at 1 and 3hrs. In addition, the increase in HPT activity induced by 10 treatments of moxibustion may have shown an effect of mildly stimulating liver function.
7.The thermal characteristics and effects of Radfango therapy by indirect moxibustion like method on chronic painful deseases.

The Radfango therapy is one of the thermotherapies combined paraffin and peloid therapy. Thermal characteristics of Radfango therapy were examined and compared with those of indirect moxibustion and moxibustion-on-needle therapy. Melted Radfango at 58°C can be applied safely on skin (acupuncture points) and can heat them more strongly than other two therapies. Radfango therapy was applied on several chronic painful diseases with consideration of oriental medicine. These result suggest that Radfango therapy will be available more effectively than other thermotherapies on these diseases.
8.Effect of multiple moxibustion on platelet aggregation, blood coagulation and fibrinolytic activity in mice.

Effects of multiple moxibustion on platelet aggregation, blood coagulation and fibrinolytic activity in mice have been studied. Male ddY mice (5 weeks old) were used as experimental animals. 15mg of moxa was divided into 6 cones and mice were treated by each 3 cones at right and left LV-14. The experimental schedules of multiple moxibustions were 5, 10 and 15 treatments of twice a week. The electronic aggregometer was suitable for measuring platelet aggregation using whole blood. However, no significant changes on platelet counts, platelet aggregation and ATP release induced by collagen (final concentration: 2μg/ml) and ADP (final concentration: 20μM) were found after multiple moxibustions. 15 treatments of moxibustion induced the increase in fibrinogen contents and the decrease tendency of factor XIII activity. While 10 treatments of moxibustion showed the increase in PLG content and α2 PI activity. These results suggested that multiple moxibustions induce the reasonable reaction to keep a good homeostasis on blood coagulation and fibrinolytic system in mice.
