This study was undertaken to document the effect of transforming growth factor-beta2 (TGF-beta2(TGF-beta2) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) on the proliferation of pig retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPE). Whereas bFGF increased the proliferation, TGF-beta2 showed the inhibitory effect on the proliferation The inhibitory effect of TGF-beta2 disappeared in RPE subcultured with 10ng/ml of bFGF. Both TGF-beta2- and bFGF-specific antisense oligonucleotides blocked the autocrine effect of the growth factors. PLC-71 -specific antisense oligonucleotide inhibited the effect of TGF-beta2 and bFGF. Genistein inhibited the effect of TGF-beta2 and bFGF in dose-dependent man, ner. The data suggest the involvement. of in PLC-/1 and tyrosine kinase in signalling.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine 1998;22(3):543-551
OBJECTIVE: To study the incidence and degree of the cervical instability in the cerebral palsied patients and to investigate the cause of the high incidence of cervical myelopathy in these patients. METHOD: The static and dynamic radiography of the cervical spine in the sagittal plane was performed in seventy-two patients with athetoid and spastic cerebral palsy and the incidence of spondylolisthesis, range of motion(by the Penning Method), sagittal diameter of the cervical canal, and posture of the cervical spine were evaluated. RESULTS: The incidence of the cervical spondylolisthesis was fifty percent with athetoid cerebral palsy and twenty-seven percents with spastic cerebral palsy. The incidence of spondylolisthesis was especially high at the level of C3/4 and C4/5. The excessive range of motion in flexion/extension by the sagittal plane was observed in 66.7% of athetoid patients and 53.3% of spastic patients, especially at the C2/3 and C3/4 levels. The abnormal curvature was noted in 66.6% of athetoid and spastic patients. C-curve and S-curve were more common in athetoid patients and straightening of the C-spine was more common in spastic type. A sagittal diameter of the cervical spinal canal was significantly decreased in patients with athetoid patients with C3/4 spondylolisthesis and/or abnormal curvature such as a C-curve or S-curve(P<0.05). Height of the vertebral body was decreased in both athetoid and spastic patients. CONCLUSION: The combination of a cervical instability and a narrow spinal canal predisposes the neurological progression to a cervical myelopathy in cerebral palsied patients.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration 2013;19(5):658-667
PURPOSE: The study was undertaken to investigate effects of decision making competency, nursing professionalism and job satisfaction on turnover impulse, and identify factors contributing to turnover impulse among nurses. METHODS: The study was a descriptive study with 231 nurses from 4 general tertiary hospitals participating. Data were collected during March, 2013 using a structured self-report questionnaire. Decision making competency, nursing professionalism, and job satisfaction were measured with validated instruments, and turnover impulse was measured with one question using a 5-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression. RESULTS: The significant predictors of turnover impulse among nurses were professionalism (beta=-0.18, p=.015) and job satisfaction (beta=-0.18, p=.009). These variables explained 12% of the variance in turnover impulse among nurses. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that nursing managers need to put efforts in improving nurses' job satisfaction and to develop plans to increase nursing professionalism in order to reduce nurses' turnover impulse.

Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 1997;15(2):417-420
Brain abscess is a common bacterial infection of the central nervous system. Previously, the most common source of brain abscess is from the otorrhinologic infection, the hematogenous spread of infection from a distant site to the central ner vous system is increased(Alvord & Shaw, 1977; Zimmerman & Weingerten, 1991). Since intact brain parenchyma is usually resistant to inecton, focal areas of ischemia or necrosis are a prequisite to invasion by pathogenic microorganisms(Patric & Kaplan, 1988). There have been a few reports about the stroke lesions changed into brain abscess(Chen et al, 1995; Scully et al. 1991). We report serial brain images with the clinical observations in a patient with a transformation of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage into brain abscess.
