To determine the effectiveness of unilateral medical rectus recession and lateral rectus resection in esotropia, surgical outcome was reviewed. We excluded paralytic strabismus, refractive esotropia and nonrefractive esotropia with high AC/A. Of 128 cases, 60 cases were male, 68 cases were female. At the amount of surgery, age distribution was from 11 month to 55 years. Preoperative angle of deviation was from 12 delta to 95 delta. We treated the patients with varying amount of unilateral medial rectus recession from 2.5mm to 8mm and unilateral lateral rectus resection from 2.5mm to 10mm. Following 31 months in average, 102(79.69%) showed successful alignment(orthporia +/-10 delta). The average amount of correction amount was 30.42 delta.

Congenital arteriovenous(AV) communications of retinal circulation are rare developmental anomalies, exsisting alone or in association with ipsilateral vascular anomalies of the mid brain, cranial sinuses and skin. These are usually unilateral. We report a case of bilateral congenital arteriovenous communication. The right eye showed group III arteriovenous communication of retina with vitreous hemorrhage. The left eye showed group II arteriovenous communication combined with group I.

BACKGROUND: The pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis is still unknown. Many reports have suggested that the house dust mite antigen may play a role in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis. The IgG4 allergen-specific subclass has been considered to be involved both in allergic reactions and associated with the appropriate response to allergen-specific immunotherapy. OBJECT: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the positive rate of the allergic prick test to D. farinae and the levels of D. farinae-specific IgE and Ig64. METHODS: We performed the allergy prick test, RAST for D. farinae-specific IgE and ELISA for D. farinae-specific IgG subclasses and compared the values between atopic dermatitis patients and normal controls. RESULTS: 1. D. farinae was the most common allergen in patients with atopic dermatitis and the positive rate of the allergic prick test was 61.0%. The positive rate of the allergic prick test and the positive rate to D. farinae increased as c]inical grading increased. 2. The Positive reaction rate of D. farinae-specific IgE(RAST) in those with atopic dermatitis was 68.8% and increased as the positive reactions of the allergic prick test to D. farinae and chnical grading increased. 3. Among the IgG subclasses, only the level of D. farinae-specific IgG4 was significantly higher in atopic dermatitis than normal controls. 4. The level of D. farinae-specific IgG4 showed a tendency to decrease in accordance with the clinical severity grades. CONCLUSION: These results suggested that D. farinae might play an important role in the development of atopic dermatitis and well-designed studies should continue to be performed in order to delineate the biological significance of IgG4.

Cerebral palsy is a non-progressive cerebral sensori-motor defect, acquired either prenatally or in an early life and evolves over the first few years. Until recently many people believed that asphyxia at birth was a major cause of cerebral palsy and that the prevention of asphyxia at birth by improving perinatal care would reduce the number of cerebral palsy children. However the incidence of cerebral palsy in children has remained steady or ever risen slightly. The real cause of cerebral palsy is still unbaron to us. This analysis was undertaken to determine the clinical features of cerebral palsy in Korea by the retrospective study of 98 children. Over a half of infants with cerebral palsy (64.2%) was recognized by parents before 1 year of corrected age, and their chief complaints were delayed developments or equinus foot deformities. The most common type of cerebral palsy was spastic type (64.2%) which was followed by athetoid (10.5%), ataxia and hypotonia types (4.2% each). The mixed type was 19.4% Among 98 cerebral palsies, the preterm infants were 42.9% and the infants with low birth weight were 41.4%. The cerebral palsies with low birth weight and preterm infants were more likely to have spastic diplegia. The most frequent abnormal primitive reflex was absent protective extension(78.3%). No significant associations of the type of cerebral palsy with primitive reflexes were found. An increased risk of cerebral palsy with increased maternal age was not observed in this study. Of 55 MRI findings, no abnormalities were seen in 27.2%, periventricular leukomalacias in 34.5%, brain atrophies in 21.8%, cerebral infarcts in 10.9%, intracerebral hemorrhage in 3.6%, and delayed myelinations in 1.8%. The periventricular leukomalacias were associated with the preterm infants in 63.2%.

Antianginal effect of Trapidil was evaluated in 30 patients (18 male and 12 females) with angina rectoris. The results were follows : 1) Antianginal effect of the drug were good in 18 cases (60%) and fair in 8 cases (37%), and there was no effect in 4 cases(13%). 2) Improvement in ECG changes was observed in 29%. 3) There were no significant change in CBC, RUA, LFT, serum electrolyte and lipid study before and after medication. 4) The adverse effects of trapidil were constipation, gastric cramp and dizziness, respectively one case. But they were not required discontinuing the medicetion. On the basis of these results, Trapidol was evaluated to be promising antianginal drug.
