Journal of Zhejiang University. Science. B 2019;20(1):9-22
OBJECTIVE:
The aim of this study is to summarize preclinical studies on herbal medicines used to treat cancer cachexia and its underlying mechanisms.
METHODS:
We searched four representing databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, the Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, and the Web of Science up to December 2016. Randomized animal studies were included if the effects of any herbal medicine were tested on cancer cachexia. The methodological quality was evaluated by the Collaborative Approach to Meta-Analysis and Review of Animal Data from Experimental Studies (CAMARADE) checklist.
RESULTS:
A total of fourteen herbal medicines and their compounds were identified, including Coptidis Rhizoma, berberine, Bing De Ling, curcumin, Qing-Shu-Yi-Qi-Tang, Scutellaria baicalensis, Hochuekkito, Rikkunshito, hesperidin, atractylodin, Sipjeondaebo-tang, Sosiho-tang, Anemarrhena Rhizoma, and Phellodendri Cortex. All the herbal medicines, except curcumin, have been shown to ameliorate the symptoms of cancer cachexia through anti-inflammation, regulation of the neuroendocrine pathway, and modulation of the ubiquitin proteasome system or protein synthesis.
CONCLUSIONS
This study showed that herbal medicines might be a useful approach for treating cancer cachexia. However, more detailed experimental studies on the molecular mechanisms and active compounds are needed.

3.Exploration into methodology of integrative medicine and its development tendency.
Jie WANG ; Qing-Yong HE ; Hai-Xia LI
Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2007;27(6):565-567
In the article, through exploring the methodology of integrative medicine and its development tendency, the authors pointed out that the pattern of combining disease and syndrome is the basic method for clinical or experimental research of integrative medicine, to conduct researches on function and structure in combination is the key point of integrative medical research. The thoughts and ways of evidence-based medicine (EBM) should be widely applied in integrative medicine, and to improve the clinical effect should be taken as the breakthrough. To establish a dynamic connecting and comprehensive thinking mode as well. They also pointed out that to integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine is the necessity for the development of society and science. More achievements of integrative medicine are expectable in future.

4.Current situation and development trend of Chinese medicine information research.
Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2013;33(4):559-564
Literature resource service was the main service that Chinese medicine (CM) information offered. But in recent years users have started to request the health information knowledge service. The CM information researches and application service mainly included: (1) the need of strength studies on theory, application of technology, information retrieval, and information standard development; (2) Information studies need to support clinical decision making, new drug research; (3) Quick response based on the network monitoring and support to emergency countermeasures. CM information researches have the following treads: (1) developing the theory system structure of CM information; (2) studying the methodology system of CM information; (3) knowledge discovery and knowledge innovation.

5.Development of traditional Chinese medicine:New Era and new strategy.
China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2019;44(18):3837-3841
As China's social development enters the New Era and the pursuit of healthcare is on the rise, people put forward the new requirements to traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) service capability. It is a great mission entrusted to practitioners to give full play to the unique characteristics and strengths of TCM. The development of TCM is currently confronted with important chances and challenges, and has entered a period of adjustment. In order to promote the healthy and sustainable development of TCM and enlarge people's sense of gaining in particular,it is vital to improve the contribution of TCM in China's medical and health services. My suggestions are as follows: ①The development of TCM should stay true to the vision of people's health-oriented development, accelerate shift of " three work emphasis",and scientifically construct five " should do" and five " should do even more" development path suited to features of TCM. ②The development of TCM should focus on the study of its " new four natures"( safety, effectiveness, controllability, accessibility) further, and pursue innovation-driven high quality development of TCM.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2005;30(22):1725-1766
Systems biology is a new field in biology that aims at system-level understanding of biological systems. Based on the remarkable progress from molecular biology, systems biology focuses its research on investigating the biological systems to form their entirety. Considering the trend of TCM modernization and the coherence on the point of holism between systems biology and TCM, a comprehensive way for the research of TCM modernization was referred, which involves a new concept, componentomics.

8.Trains of thoughts and methods in studying substantial basis of effects of Chinese medicinal compounds.
Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2007;27(1):80-82
Study on substantial basis of effects of Chinese medicinal compounds is crucial for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) modernization, but certain limitation exists in all the current researching methods. This article reviewed the current situation and researching methods of this issue, analyzed their characteristics and shortages, and further discussed the trains of thoughts and developing direction of that, tried to find a simple and swift method coincident with the principle of TCM, for research on substantial basis of Chinese medicinal compounds.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2014;39(4):553-557
Sanqi (Panax notoginseng) is a valuable unique herb, and is also one of the very fast developed varieties of traditional Chinese medicines in recent years with increasing role in traditional Chinese medicine industry. This paper summarized the main experience, industry development and present situation, pointed out the main problems existing in the industry development. On this basis, we put forward the targets and measures for the development of the Sanqi industry in to provide decision-making reference for the sustainable development of the Sanqi industry in China.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2009;34(18):2400-2404
This research has analyzed the current status, problems for the properties theory of Chinese medicinal herbs. Proposed that the Chinese medicine literature research is a foundation, the research of properties theory of Chinese medicinal herbs should under the'Chinese medicine theory instruction. It must use the modern scientific method to study and unify the Chinese medicine superiority, establish the standards and reveal the scientific essence of Chinese medicine property.
