Medicinal values and their chemical bases of Paris (Trilliaceae) are reviewed. Paris plants include 40 species and varieties. Among them, 18 ones are medicinal plants with similarity in traditional uses. Fourteen species have been studied phytochemically, which led to isolation of 207 compounds including 121 steroidal saponins. These saponins are major active constituents from Paris plants, which can explain the traditional uses of the plants to treat cancer, malignant boil, bleeding, gastritis, and so on. The similarity in medicinal uses and chemical constituents of Paris plants implies the possibility of resource substitution among these species. It is worth to further investigate Paris plants in chemical constituents, pharmacological activity, biological property, and toxicology.

Objective To investigate the effect of glucocortieoids on tenasein C(TNC) expression in nasal polyp tissues and airway epithelia, and explore the possible mechanism of glucocorticoids inhibiting remodeling of nasal polyp tissue. Methods The enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was used to detect the protein levels of tenascin C and transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1) in nasal polyp tissues from intranasal glucocorticoids (Budesonide,BUD) treated group and untreated group. The cell culture,real-time RT-PCR and in situ ELISA were employed to investigate the regulatory effects of budesonide on the TNC mRNA and protein expression in BEAS-2B immortalized human bronchial epithelial cells. Results The protein levels of TNC and TGF-β1 were decreased in nasal polyp tissues from intranasal BUD-treated group as compared with untreated group(P<0.01).There was a significantly positive correlation between TNC and TGF-β1 protein levels in nasal polyp tissues (r =0.68,P<0.01).After preincubation with BUD,TNC mRNA and protein expression induced by TGF-β1 in BEAS-2B cells was significantly decreased(P<0.01).Conclusion Glucocorticoids might participate in the regulation of tissue remodeling in nasal polyp by inhibiting the TGF-β1 expression in nasal polyp tissue and suppressing the induction of TGF-β1 to up-regulatie the TNC expression in airway epithelia.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of maternal cypermethrin exposure during lactation on learning and memory ability in adult female offspring, as well as the possible mechanism.
METHODSTwelve maternal mice were randomly divided into 6.25 mg/kg cypermethrin, 25.0 mg/kg cypermethrin and control groups (four dams each group, ten pups each dam, half male half female, twenty female pups each group). Maternal mice were orally administered with different doses of cypermethrin (6.25 and 25 mg/kg/d) once daily from postnatal day1 (PND1) to PND21. Maternal mice in control group were treated with corn oil. The learning and memory ability of female offspring were observed by using water labyrinth task for continuously seven days on PND60. All the female offspring were killed and the brain and hippocampus were detached after the test. The expression level of NMDA receptor NR1 protein in hippocampus was detected by Western-blotting.
RESULTSThere were no statistically significant in the difference in weight of body and brain among three groups (P > 0.05). Through the Repeated one way ANOVA, the learning time of latency in the 25.0 mg/kg cypermethrin group [(31.3 ± 17.0) s] were significantly longer than that in the control group [(21.0 ± 14.0) s] (P < 0.05). The memory time of latency in the 25.0 mg/kg cypermethrin group [(24.6 ± 21.1) s] were significantly longer than that in the control group [(14.1 ± 16.3) s] (P < 0.05). However, the difference of the wrong number among groups was not statistically significant in the test (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONMaternal cypermethrin exposure during lactation disturbs learning and memory ability in adult female offspring in a degree, which maybe caused by the reduction of protein level of hippocampus NR1.

AIM:To investigate the effects of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived exosomes (hiPSC-exo) on cell viability, capillary-like structure formation , and senescence in endothelial cells exposed to high glucose .METHODS: Exosomes were isolated from the conditional medium of hiPSCs and confirmed by transmission electron microscopy , nanoparticle tracking analysis , and Western blot analysis using Alix and CD63 as markers.hiPSC-exo were labeled with PKH26 for tracking.Cultured HUVECs were treated with high glucose (33 mmol/L) with or without hiPSC-exo (20 mg/L) for 48 h, and cell viability, capillary tube formation, and senescence were assessed .RESULTS:hiPSC-exo showed a typical cup shape and could be taken up by human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs) in a concentration-dependent manner. When exposed to high glucose, viability and tube formation in HUVECs was signifi-cantly reduced, whereas the proportion of senescent cells was higher compared to that in control HUVECs (P<0.01).Furthermore, hiPSC-exo restored cell viability and capillary-like structure formation , and reduced senescence in HUVECs exposed to high glucose (P<0.01).However, hiPSC-exo had minimal effects on normal HUVECs.Therefore, stem cell-derived exosomes can promote cell proliferation, enhance capillary-like structure formation , and reduce senescence in endothelial cells exposed to high glucose . CONCLUSION:Our study highlights the role of exosomes derived from hiPSC and may provide a new strategy for maintaining vascular health, preventing vascular aging , and avoiding pathological vascular remodeling that occurs in many diseases .
