OBJECTIVETo analyze the location, early diagnosis and treatment of osteofascial compartment syndrome (OCS).

METHODSThere were 38 males and 29 females with age range of 8 - 69 years (mean 38.1 years). All 67 cases were suffered from Wenchuan earthquake happened in May 12th, 2008, of which 34 focuses with tibia-fibular fracture, 9 focuses with femoral fracture, 4 focuses with humeral fracture, and 13 focuses with radius and/or ulna fracture. The occurred place of OCS involves calf (41 focuses), legs (25 focuses), hands (2 focuses), feet (3 focuses), hip (19 focuses), forearms (15 focuses) and upper arms (10 focuses). The clinical symptoms and characteristics were closely observed and treated with decompression posterior to conservative treatment or with prompt open decompression.

RESULTSOf 67 cases (115 focuses), 82 focuses with secondary suture won satisfactory recovery of blood circulation and extremity function, 23 wounds were closed with secondary suture and skin grafting, 5 limbs were amputated due to avascular necrosis and 2 cases died (5 focuses OCS). Of 115 focuses 11 focuses obtain part function, 7 focuses lost join function.

CONCLUSIONSThe proportion of some rare parts' pathogenesis of osteofascial compartment syndrome caused by the earthquake rises. Early diagnosis, close observation and open decompression are important for treatment of osteofascial compartment syndrome.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the emergency therapeutic effects of intertrochanteric fractures in elderly patients.

METHODSA retrospective study was designed. From March 2006 to March 2012, 254 patients with intertrochanteric fractures treated in Mianyang Central Hospital were reviewed. The patients with old fractures, pathological fractures, multiple trauma and severe medical comorbidities of admission were excluded. So 127 patients with intertrochanteric fractures over 70 years old were included in the study, including 38 males and 89 females, and the patients were divided into 2 groups: 56 patients underwent emergency operation within 24 h after injury (emergency operation group), 71 patients underwent an operation more than 24 h after injury (not emergency operation group). The following data were collected retrospectively for all patients: (1) in-hospitalcomplications, including electrolyte disturbance, hidden blood loss, delirium, deep vein thrombosis, upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage, pulmonary infection, urinary tract infection, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, bedsore. (2) prognosis, ineluding in-hospital mortality, mortality in the 1st year, length of hospital stay, fracture healing times, hip score. Comparisons between the two groups were made using SPSS13.0. The quantitative data and categorical data were analyzed by t test and chi2 test, respectively.

RESULTSThe main medical complications in emergency operation group were hidden blood loss, delirium, pulmonary infection, electrolyte disturbances, urinary tract infections, and in not emergency operation group followed respectively by hidden blood loss, lung infection, electrolyte disturbances, delirium, and pulmonary infection. In-hospital mortality was zero, and 1 in the 1st year in emergency operation group; while in not emergency operation group were 4 and 7 respectively. An average length of hospital stay with (9 +/- 3) d in emergency operation group was lower than (17 +/- 8) d in not emergency operation group. Fracture healing time was (12 +/- 2) weeks in both groups. The significant variables with P < 0.05 between the two groups were electrolyte disorders, delirium, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary infection, urinary tract infection, bedsore, in-hospital mortality, mortality in the 1st year, and length of hospital stay. The differences of hidden blood loss, upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, fracture healing times, hip score between the two groups had no significant differences (P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe emergency surgery (within 24 h after injury) reduces length of hospital stay, and may also reduce complications and mortality.

OBJECTIVESTo investigate the effect of senility on inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression and apoptosis in rat penis.

METHODSThe rats were divided into three groups randomly: senescent, aged and young. Their penises were harvested to detect iNOS expression by immunohistochemistry and cell apoptosis rate by TUNEL, respectively.

RESULTSiNOS expression were 0.24 +/- 0.03, 0.17 +/- 0.02, 0.12 +/- 0.03 (relative A) and cell apoptosis rate were (1.41 +/- 0.78)%, (0.94 +/- 0.43)% and (0.50 +/- 0.23 )%, respectively, in the tissues of three groups. The differences among three groups were considerable significance (P <0.05).

CONCLUSIONIt maybe one of the mechanisms of erectile dysfunction in the aging male that senility causes the increase of iNOS expression and cell apoptosis.

OBJECTIVETo study the relaxants effects of six extractions from Chinese Herbs (neferine, tetrandrine, kakonein, scutellarin, ginsenoside Rgl and ginsenoside Rb1) on the corpus cavernosum tissue of rabbit in vitro.

METHODSIsolated stripes of rabbit corpus cavernosum tissue were precontracted with 10(-5) mol/L phenylephrine (PE). Relaxation in response to cumulative doses of six extracts at (10(-8) - 10(-3)) mol/L was determined.

RESULTSOn rabbit cavernosal muscle stripes precontracted with PE, neferine, tetrandrine, kakonein and scutellarin showed dose dependent relaxation. IC50 values were 4.60 x 10(-6), 3.73 x 10(-5), 8.03 x 10(-4) and 3.33 x 10(-3) mol/L, respectively. However, in the meantime, it was found that the relaxant effects of ginsenoside Rgl and ginsenoside Rbl less significant to stripes precontracted with PE. When the final concentration was 10(-3) mol/L, the relaxations were only (16.32 +/- 5.45)% and (11.21 +/- 3.10)%.

CONCLUSIONAmong the six extracts which showed relaxant effects to rabbit cavernosal muscle stripes precontracted with PE, neferine had greater functions than the other five extracts.

OBJECTIVETo study the expression of the kallikreins-kinins system in the corpus cavernosum of rats.

METHODSThe expression of tissue kallikrein I and kinin B2 receptor gene in the corpus cavernosum and heart of adult rats was detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

RESULTSThe tissue kallikrein I and kinin B2 receptor were detected in the corpus cavernosum as well as in the heart of the rats and the contents were similar.

CONCLUSIONA kallikreins-kinins system exists in the corpus cavernosum of rats, and the content is rich, almost similar to that in the heart.

Objective To evaluate the effects of the strategy of transmission interruption of schistosomiasis in Runzhou Dis-trict,Zhenjiang City,Jiangsu Province.Methods The comprehensive prevention and control strategy was carried out in Run-zhouDistrict,Zhenjiang City,Jiangsu Province.The strategy was relied mainly on the Oncomelania hupensis snail control,ex-tended chemotherapy of schistosomiasis in residents and the health education.The infection rate of schistosomiasis in residents,area with snails,area with snails controlled,and the rates of awareness and correct behavior of schistosomiasis were as evalua-tion indexes.Results The area with snails controlled was 7 091.50 hm2in Runzhou District,Zhenjiang City from 2001 to 2016.The area with snails reduced year by year from 2001 to 2016.There was a negative correlation between the coverage intensity of snail control and the area with snails(r=-0.874,P=0).There were 1 703 serum positive and 199 fecal positive people of schis-tosomiasis in the permanent residents from 2001 to 2016.These serum and fecal positive people of schistosomiasis were all treat-ed with praziquantel.The serum positive rate of schistosomiasis in the permanent residents dropped to below 1.0％after 2005.The fecal positive patients were not found in 2004 and later.Totally 189 639 people received the questionnaire survey for the knowledge of schistosomiasis control from 2001 to 2016.The rates of awareness and correct behavior of schistosomiasis were raised in the residents year by year.The goal of the transmission interruption of schistosomiasis came to true in Runzhou Dis-trict,Zhenjiang City in 2016.Conclusion The comprehensive prevention and control strategy including mainly the snail con-trol,extended chemotherapy of schistosomiasis and health education could achieve the goal of transmission interruption of schis-tosomiasis in the areas of marshland along the Yangtze River.

OBJECTIVE: Patients with 22q11.2 microduplications have highly variable clinical phenotypes. The clinical manifestations and prognosis of 19 fetuses carrying 22q11.2 microduplications were analyzed. METHODS: The fetuses were analyzed by single nucleotide polymorphism array (SNP array), which was followed by parental validation. Pregnancy outcome and clinical features of the newborns were analyzed in order to delineate genotype-phenotype correlation. RESULTS: Two fetuses were identified by karyotyping analysis of amniotic fluid samples. SNP array revealed that all have carried a 468.8 kb~3.4 Mb duplication in 22q11.2 region. Two couples have refused parental verification. Seven cases were inherited from the mother, 6 were from the father, and 4 cases were de novo in origin. Three couples opted termination of the pregnancy. One fetus perished at birth. Five newborns showed delayed growth, the remaining 10 were normal. CONCLUSION The prenatal phenotype of fetuses carrying 22q11.2 microduplications are nonspecific, and the phenotypes of survivors may become more diverse along with increased age. Professional evaluation and long-term follow-up should be recommended.

Objective To analyze the demand for non-occupational post-exposure prophylaxis (nPEP) services and related influencing factors among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Liuzhou City, Guangxi Province. Methods MSM was recruited in Liuzhou City, Guangxi Province. Face-to-face survey was used to collect demographic information, knowledge about AIDS, history of high-risk behavior, knowledge and demand for nPEP services. 2 test was used to analyze the differences of demand for nPEP services among MSM with different characteristics and different high-risk behaviors. Log-binomial regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors of demand for nPEP services. Prevalence ratio and 95% confidence interval were calculated. Results 31.1% of MSM population had heard of nPEP service, and 61.6% of them needed the service after being informed of nPEP about its protective effect. 58.6% of MSM would spend money to buy nPEP service after high-risk behavior. Logistic regression analysis showed that the education level was university degree or above (PR=2.743, 95% CI: 1.996-3.450), the perception of the local MSM AIDS epidemic was not serious or unknown (PR=0.211, 95% CI: 0.112-0.294), and the number of temporary sexual partners in half a year was 2 or more (PR=3.642, 95% CI: 2.223-4.842), these subjects above were influencing factors of nPEP service demanded for respondents. Conclusions MSM population in Liuzhou area of Guangxi have a certain need for nPEP service. We should implement nPEP service as soon as possible in accordance with local conditions, and strengthen the corresponding propaganda to reduce the harm of AIDS to MSM population.

BACKGROUND:With the aging of the global population,the incidence rate of osteoporosis is also increasing.It is very important to further understand its pathogenesis and propose new therapeutic targets.Recent studies have shown that ferroptosis is closely related to the pathogenesis of some bone diseases,such as inflammatory arthritis,osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. OBJECTIVE:To summarize the previous studies on the mechanism of ferroptosis in osteoporosis,so as to provide new therapeutic ideas and potential therapeutic targets for osteoporosis. METHODS:The first author used the computer to search the documents published from 2000 to 2022 in CNKI,WanFang,VIP,PubMed and Web of Science with the key words of"ferroptosis,osteoporosis,osteoblasts,osteoclasts,iron chelators,reactive oxygen species,nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2,heme oxygenase-1,glutathione peroxidase 4,review"in Chinese and English.A total of 70 articles were finally included according to the inclusion criteria. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Ferroptosis is significantly different from necrosis,apoptosis and autophagy.In terms of cell morphology and function,it does not have the morphological characteristics of typical necrosis,nor does it have the characteristics of traditional apoptosis,such as cell contraction,chromatin condensation,the formation of apoptotic bodies and the disintegration of cytoskeleton.Contrary to autophagy,ferroptosis does not form a classical closed bilayer membrane structure(autophagic vacuole).Morphologically,ferroptosis is mainly manifested by obvious contraction of mitochondria,increased membrane density,and reduction or disappearance of mitochondrial cristae,which are different from other cell death modes.Iron overload can destroy bone homeostasis by significantly inhibiting osteogenic differentiation and stimulating osteoclast formation,leading to osteoporosis.Iron overload interferes with the differentiation of stem cells to osteoblasts,leading to a weakened osteoblast function and further imbalance of bone metabolism in the body,which eventually leads to osteoporosis.Stimulated by iron overload,osteoclast bone resorption is enhanced and bone loss exceeds new bone formation.Iron chelators have been proved to have osteoprotective effects by inhibiting osteoclast activity and stimulating osteogenic differentiation of osteoblasts.Its potential mechanism is related to inhibiting osteoclast differentiation and promoting osteoblast differentiation.Antioxidants can prevent reactive oxygen species production and inhibit bone absorption,thus improving bone metabolism and effectively preventing osteoporosis.

OBJECTIVETo assess the effectiveness of multiple cleaning and disinfection interventions in the homes and kindergartens, in reducing gastrointestinal and respiratory illnesses of children.

METHODSFrom October 2010 to September 2011, we performed a prospective, controlled study in China. 408 children under 5 years old were recruited and group randomized into intervention and control groups. Families and kindergartens in the intervention group were provided with antibacterial products for hand hygiene and surface cleaning or disinfection for one year. Each child's illness symptoms and sick leave were recorded every day.

RESULTSA total of 393 children completed the study, with similar baseline demographics in each of the 2 groups. Except for abdominal pain, the odds of symptoms (fever, cough and expectoration, runny nose and nasal congestion, diarrhea), illness (acute respiratory illness and gastrointestinal illness), and sick leave per person each month were significantly reduced by interventions. The rates of fever, diarrhea, acute respiratory illness, gastrointestinal illness and sick leave per person per year were significantly decreased as well.

CONCLUSIONNot only the acute respiratory and gastrointestinal illness but the sick leave rate in children were significantly reduced by multiple interventions.
