1.Research progress on the biological clock genes and diabetic retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most common and serious complication of diabetes mellitus, which is the main cause of vision loss in adults. Biological clock genes produce circadian rhythms and control its operation, while the disorder of the expression causes the occurrence and development of a series of diseases. It has been demonstrated that biological clock genes might take effects in the development and progression of DR. On the one hand, circadian rhythm disorder-related behavior disrupts the circadian oscillation of clock genes, and the change in its expression level is prone to unbalanced regulation of glucose metabolism, ultimately increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus and DR pathogenesis. On the other hand, DR patients exhibit symptoms of circadian rhythm disorders, and it has been suggested that the clock genes may control the development and progression of DR by affecting a variety of retinal pathophysiological processes. Therefore, maintaining normal circadian rhythm can be used as a disease prevention strategy, and studying the molecular mechanism of clock genes in DR can provide new ideas for more comprehensive elaboration of the pathogenesis of DR and search for new therapeutic targets.
2.Research advances in the role of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway in eye diseases

The cGAS-STING signaling pathway plays a crucial role in innate immunity,forming a monitoring system for tissue injury and pathogen invasion.Recent studies have found that the cGAS-STING signaling pathway may mediate a vari-ety of pathological processes in eyes and participate in the occurrence and development of inflammatory,degenerative eye diseases and ocular tumors,such as keratitis,age-related macular degeneration,diabetic retinopathy,and uveal melano-ma.This review aims to summarize the role of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway in eye diseases and elucidate the poten-tial molecular mechanisms of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway in eye diseases,so as to provide innovative approaches to the treatment of eye diseases.
3.Progress of circulating tumor DNA methylation for gastric cancer screening and management

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is cell-free DNA released by tumors or circulating tumor cells, containing abundant tumor-specific information that can serve as biomarkers for cancer early screening, monitoring, prognosis, and prediction of treatment response. This is particularly attractive in the field of gastric cancer, where high-quality screening, monitoring, and prediction methods are currently lacking. Gastric cancer exhibits significant tumor heterogeneity, with large differences in genetic and epigenetic characteristics among different subgroups. Methylated ctDNA has high sensitivity and specificity, which can help clarify tumor genotyping and facilitate the formulation of precise diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, numerous studies have confirmed the unique advantages of methylated DNA in predicting treatment response, adjuvant therapy, and drug resistance assessment, which may be used in the future to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy regimens and improve patient chemotherapeutic response, and even treat multidrug resistance. However, there are several challenges associated with methylated ctDNA, such as low sensitivity and specificity at single-target sites, limited association between some gastric cancer subtypes and ctDNA, off-target risks, and the lack of large-scale and high-quality clinical research evidence. This review mainly summarizes current research on the methylation status of ctDNA in gastric cancer and connects these findings to early screening, recurrence monitoring, and potential treatment opportunities for gastric cancer. With advances in technology and the deepening of interdisciplinary research, ctDNA detection will reveal more disease information and become an essential foundation for gastric cancer research and precision medicine treatment.

5.Mosquitoes, midges and related arboviruses in southeast Sichuan province.

Objective: To investigate the distribution patterns of mosquitoes, midges and related arboviruses in Sichuan province. Methods: Blood-sucking insects were collected from houses and pens, using the ultraviolet lights. Mosquito samples were classified according to morphologic characteristics and then stored at liquid nitrogen. All samples were incubated with BHK-21 and C6/36 cells for virus isolation and then detected for their viral genes. Sequences of the virus were identified and analyzed by molecular biological software, such as BioEdit 7.0.5.3, MEGA 6.0. Results: In total, 17 019 mosquitoes from 3 genera and 4 species and 12 700 midges were collected from the southeast regions of Sichuan province in 2016 and 2017. Among them, 79.4% (13 519/17 019) belonged to Culex tritaeniorhynchus with 11.1% (1 897/17 019) as Armigeres subalbatus, 5.5% (930/17 019) were Anopheles sinensis and 4.0% (673/17 019) were Anopheles sinensis 3 virus strains that isolated from Culex tritaeniorhynchus were identified as typeⅠ Japanese encephalitis virus. Seven pools of mosquitoes isolated from Hejiang county were identified Japanese encephalitis virus gene positive through PCR amplification. With 4 pool midges were detected positive for Akabane virus through PCR gene amplification while midges samples didn't have virus isolates. Conclusions: Culex tritaeniorhynchus appeared the predominant species in the southeast regions of Sichuan. Japanese encephalitis virus transmitted by mosquitoes and Akabane virus by midges were prevalent in southeast Sichuan province.
