1.The Effect of the Solution-focused group counseling program on problem-solving capacity of the nursing students.

PURPOSE: To examine the effect of the solution-focused group counseling program on the nursing students' problem-solving capacity. METHODS: The research design was one-group pretest-posttest design in quasi-experimental research. The subjects were 16 sophomore nursing students being in K university located in D city. Korea. The period of this research was from January 9 to February 20, 2002. from January 10 to February 21. 2003. The group counseling program that was developed by Kim, Hyeon Mi (2001) on the basis of the fundamental principles of solution-focused therapy of de Shazer. et al. (1986) and the solution-focused group counseling process proposed by Selekman (1991). LaFountain. et al. (1996) and Metcalf (1998) was used after being modified and complemented for the nursing students. The group counseling was carried out six times for 120 minutes per week. The instruments used for this study were the Problem Solving Inventory developed by Heppner and Petersen (1982) and Scaling question. Collected data were analyzed by paired t-test with SPSS program. RESULTS: 1) Problem solving capacity increased after solution-focused group counseling program, but a significant difference was not revealed(t=0.835, p=0.057). 2) The scores of self-confidence with the problem-solving were significantly increased when it was compared with the 1st and the 6th(t=3.587, p=0.001). CONCLUSION: It seems that the solution-focused group counseling program should be considered as an effective nursing intervention program for the nursing students by improving self-confidence with the problem-solving. As a results, this study suggests that the specific techniques used in the solution focused therapy should be applied actively in areas of counseling and communication training for the nursing students and nurses.

2.Effects of Art Therapy on Cognition, Depression, and Quality of Life in Elderly.

PURPOSE: The study attempted to examine whether the group art therapy using a collage medium and reminiscence therapy prevented or reversed dementia, prevented depression, and improved the quality of life of elderly women at high risk for dementia in community public health centers. METHODS: As a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group, this study used a pre-post design. The subjects consisted of a random sample of women over 65 years of age who had been registered as being at high-risk for dementia at the Public Health Center of the G City, and the Dementia Support Center. Of these elders, 30 were assigned to the experimental group and 33 to the control group. The intervention was conducted twice a week for 5 weeks. chi2-test, t-test, Wilcoxon test were used to analyze the data. RESULTS: After the program, cognitive function, depression, and quality of life were significantly better in the experimental group than in the control group. CONCLUSION: The group art therapy can be utilized in community-based nursing practices by identifying and registering those who are at high risk for dementia. The results should prove useful when designing future intervention strategies targeting elderly individuals residing in communities.

3.Factors Affecting the Health-related Quality of Life According to Age in Vulnerable Aged Men.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that influenced the health-related quality of life of young-old (65-74 yr) men, old-old (75-84 yr) men, and oldest-old (85 yr or above) men in vulnerable aged received home care from public health center. METHODS: The participants for this study were 318 aged Korean men living in D city. The data was collected from August to October, 2009 using structured questionnaires. Chi-square, One way ANOVA, Duncan test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and multiple regression with the SPSS WIN 14.0 program were used to analyze the data. RESULTS: There were statistically significant differences among young-old, old-old, and oldest-old men regarding the health-related quality of life, health promoting behavior, IADL (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living), rehabilitation, depression, and social support. The model including variables related to physical, psychological, and social aspects of life, explained variance of the health-related quality of life of aged men differently, such as 39.6% of young-old, 35.4% of old-old, and 47.0% of oldest-old. Finally, IADL and social support were predictors in explaining the level of health-related quality of life among vulnerable old men regardless of age. CONCLUSION: Based on the findings of the study, nursing interventions should be developed to improve health-related quality of life of vulnerable aged men according to age differences.

4.Knowledge of and Compliance with Neutropenic Diet in Patients with Hematologic Malignancy undergoing Chemotherapy.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate knowledge of and compliance with the neutropenic diet in hemato-oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy. METHODS: 123 hemato-oncology patients who had more than one chemotherapy participated in this study. Data were collected with a self-administered questionnaire from July 21 to September 26, 2014, and analyzed with SPSS 21.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. RESULTS: The average of score for the neutropenic diet was 60.9 out of 100 points and mean compliance score was 69.5 out of 100 percent scale. For preventing infection, patients were found to be stricter in their intake of restricted foods than acceptable foods during neutropenia. There were significant correlations between the knowledge of and compliance with the neutropenic diet in patients receiving chemotherapy (r=.53, p<.001). CONCLUSION: It is necessary to nursing assessment and education should include a periodic assessment of nutritional status and risk evaluation of neutropenia and bacterial infections. This study recommended nursing research to establish a recommendation criterion for a restrictive neutropenic diet and less restrictive food safety education programs for cancer patients.

6.Traumatic Optic Neuropathy Aggravated by Orbital Emphysema after Orbital Fracture

Purpose:
To report a case of traumatic optic neuropathy aggravated by orbital emphysema after an orbital fracture.Case summary: A 19-year-old man with no specific medical history was referred for a right orbital fracture caused by blunt trauma to the supraorbital rim of the right eye. Computed tomography (CT) showed a right orbital fracture involving the inferomedial wall and inferomedial strut. The corrected visual acuity was 0.4 in the right eye (RE) and 1.0 in the left and the intraocular pressure was 15 and 18 mmHg, respectively. Restriction on downgaze, abduction, and an indefinite relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD) were observed in the RE. Fundus exam was non-specific other than commotio retinae on the temporal side of the macula in the RE. After 12 hours post trauma, the visual acuity of the RE had decreased to light perception. Definite RAPD was observed with optic disc swelling on the fundus photo and optical coherence tomography. Orbital CT showed air shadows, which were not seen on the initial evaluation, adjacent to the optic disc. We diagnosed traumatic optic neuropathy aggravated by orbital emphysema. High-dose intravenous steroid was given for 3 days. Despite a lateral canthotomy and cantholysis to decompress the right orbit, visual acuity did not improve above counting fingers.
Conclusions
Increased intraorbital pressure and congestion caused by orbital emphysema may exacerbate traumatic optic neuropathy. Therefore, close observation is required.
7.Factors associated with unsuccessful pessary fitting and reasons for discontinuation in Korean women with pelvic organ prolapse

Objective:
To identify the factors associated with unsuccessful pessary fitting and reasons for pessary discontinuation in Korean women with pelvic organ prolapse (POP).
Methods:
The medical records of 234 patients who underwent pessary fitting for the management of symptomatic POP were retrospectively reviewed. A ring pessary with or without support was used. Successful pessary fitting was defined as the ability to wear a pessary for 2 weeks without any discomfort. Factors associated with unsuccessful pessary fitting were determined using a multivariable logistic regression analysis. A Kaplan-Meier survival curve was obtained to examine the probability of continuing pessary use over the follow-up period. The reasons for the discontinuation of pessary were identified.
Results:
Two-hundred-and-twenty-five women were included in the analysis. The rate of unsuccessful pessary fitting was 40%. Prior hysterectomy (odds ratio [OR], 4.13; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.81-9.42) and POP quantification stage III-IV (OR, 2.49; 95% CI, 1.28-4.85) were independent risk factors for unsuccessful pessary fitting. Among the patients with successful pessary fitting, the median time to discontinuation of pessary use was 4 years. The most common causes of discontinued use were vaginal erosion (45.3%) and urinary incontinence (26.5%).
Conclusion
Patients with a history of hysterectomy and advanced-stage POP are at risk for an unsuccessful fitting of the ring pessary. Vaginal erosion is the main reason for discontinued use among patients with successful pessary fitting.

The subjects were 254 nurses working in one general hospital. Data were collected from January 1 to 30, 2023. Data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 25.0 program.
Results:
(a) In this study, the mean value of job satisfaction was 3.07±0.43, relation-oriented culture was 3.45±0.51, hierarchy-oriented culture was 3.39±0.49, task-oriented culture was 3.35±0.48, innovation-oriented culture was 3.00±0.46, social support was 3.75±0.49, and intention retention was 4.98±1.39. (b) Intention retention had a positive correlation with job satisfaction (r=.41, p<.001), social support (r=.29, p<.001), innovation-oriented culture (r=.29, p<.001), relation-oriented culture (r=.20, p=.001), and hierarchy-oriented culture (r=.18, p=.002).
