2.A Case of Functioning Parathyroid Cancer with Hypokalemia.
Journal of Korean Society of Endocrinology 1997;12(1):81-89
The parathyroid carcinoma is rare disorder and its reported incidence is 1-2% of primary hyperparathyroidism. Parathyroid cancer shows more profound clinical symptoms and signs than adenoma or hyperplasia: more severe renal and bony complications, higher calcium levels (>15 mg/dL) and palpable neck mass. It usually diagnosed after operation when it shows malignant pathologic findings, local invasion, distant metastasis, or even recurrence. The treatment is surgical resection. Hypokalemia is relatively common feature of primary hyperparathyroidism but it should be marked because of its arrhythmogenic effect when accompanies with hypercalcemia. We experienced a hyperfunctioning parathyroid carcinoma in 53 year old rnan confirmed postoperatively which showed hypokalemia normalized after operation.

4.Mucinous cystadenoma of the liver with ovarian-like stroma: the need for complete resection.

Journal of the Korean Surgical Society 2011;81(Suppl 1):S51-S54
Cystadenoma of the liver is a rare neoplasm. Although many cystadenomas are asymptomatic, symptoms can include abdominal pain, postprandial epigastric discomfort, and nausea. Dramatic changes in hepatic imaging techniques have been helpful for diagnosing cystic lesions of the liver, such as simple cyst, hydatid cyst, cystadenoma, cystadenocarcinoma, and metastatic neuroendocrine tumors. However, it remains difficult to differentiate cystadenoma from cystadenocarcinoma for multiseptated cystic hepatic lesions with papillary projection on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Here we report the case of a 47-year-old woman with several months of postprandial discomfort and abdominal fullness. CT and MRI revealed multiseptated cystic lesions with papillary excrescences. A left hemihepatectomy was performed. Histology showed a benign mucinous cystic tumor with ovarian-like stroma.

5.Treatment of Witiligo with Oral Methoxsalen and UVA.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1985;23(5):643-649
Among ]20 vitiligo patients who visited our clinic during the period of January 1984 to February 1985, 39 patients were treated with oral methoxsalen (8-MOP) and UVA for more than 6 months, The following conclusions were obtained by analysis of the clinical histories and efficacy of PUVA treatment: 1. The mean age of 39 patients was 31 and that of onset was 21. An average of 1() years elapsed from the onset of the disease prior to visiting our clinic. The initial involvement was observed, in decreasing order of frequency, on the trunk, face and/or neck and extremities. 3, The repigmentation started most frequently from the trunk followed by the extremities, face and/or neck after treatment of 2 months and 14 irradiations on the average. 4, There was a direct relationship between the frequency and duration of treatment and its effectiveness. 5. The trunk showed the best response to the treatment, followed by the extremities; face and/or neck. The most resistant sites were the the hand and/or foot. 6. No specific relationship was found between the patient's age, duration of illness and responsiveness to the treatment. 7. The side effects were minimal and transient.

7.Multiple Granuloma Pyogenicum on Shoulder area.
Yoon Kee PARK ; Mi Jin Hee TAK
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1981;19(4):589-593
Granuloma pyogenicum is a benign vascular tumor, usually about 0.5 to 2cm in diameter. It occurs as a single lesion with few exceptions and consists of pedunulated nodule with a dull red or slightly purplish color. We observed a 29-year old man who had multiple satellite recurrences in the scapular region which developed after excision of a single lesion of granuloma pyogenicum. Histapathologic findings showed many newly formed capillaries that had prominant endothelial cells and showed varying degrees of dilation without appearance of epiderrnal collarette sign. The lesions were much improved by X-ray irradiation.

8.The side effects of antiepileptic drugs in epileptic children treated with monotherapy.
Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 1993;36(3):320-327
The goal of therapy of epileptic children is to control of seizures with minimal side effects of antiepileptic drug (AED). The relationship between side effects, serum levels and doses of AED were examined prospectively in 72 epileptic children who received monotherapy with phenobarbital, phenytoin, valproate, or carbamazepine for 6 to 26 months. Our results were as follows: 1) Side effects were observed in 59.7% of all patients; in decreasing order, behavioral (41.6%)>digestive (25.0%)>others (22.2%)>neurologic (11.1%). 2) The most common side effects in children treated with phenobarbital (PB) was behavioral (54.2%); these included hyperactivity, drowsiness, sleeping in decreasing order and there was significant relationship between drowsiness and serum level of PB(P<0.05). 3) Common side effects in patients receing carbamazepine (CBZ) were behavioral (52.0%) and digestive (52.2%); behavioral disorders included drowsiness and sleeping which showed significance with dosage of CBZ (P<0.01), digestive disorders were abdominal pain which showed significance, with dosage of CBZ (P<0.05) and weight gain. Other side effects were dizziness, headache, diplopia, tremor pallor, durg eruption, alopecia, aggravated acne etc. 4) The most common side effect in children treated with valproate (VPA) was pallor which showed significance with dosage of VPA (P<0.05). Abdominal pain had<0.05 significance with serum level of VPA, and Other side effects were anemia and weight gain. 5) In 83.3% of all patients, they had no side effects or could tolerate mild side effects. But in 12.5% of patients, the side effects disappeared when dosages were reduced, and AED had to be withdrawn in only 4.2% of patients.

9.Intramedullary Spinal Cord Metastasis: A Report of Two Cases and a Review of the Literature.
Yoon Kyeong OH ; Hee Chul PARK
The Journal of the Korean Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology 2001;19(4):353-358
Intramedullary spinal cord metastases (ISCM) account for only 3.4% of symptomatic metastases to the spinal cord. The survival of patients with ISCM is characteristically short, often no longer than 2 months, due to a rapid neurologic deterioration and the presence of widespread metastases, including metastases to the brain. We report two cases of ISCM arising from primary sphenoid sinus carcinoma and primary lung cancer along with a review of the literature. The case of ISCM from the primary sphenoid sinus is the third case of secondary syringomyelia due to ISCM in the world literature, and ISCM from the primary lung cancer is the first case reported in Korea. One case showed a slow progression of symptoms and a longer survival (26 months after the radiotherapy to the spine), and the other showed a rapid deterioration of symptoms with a shorter survival. More effective palliation can be achieved if the disease is diagnosed at an early stage when the neurologic deficits are still reversible.
