Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1982;18(1):35-44
The determination of the degree and ability of recovery of obstructive hydronephrosis is important in treatment and prediction of prognosis. Among the various methods in determination of the status of kidney, intravenous pyelography is the most important tool to evaluate the morphological and functional changes of kidney in vivo. The purpose of this experiment was the determination of process and recoverability of hydronephrosis depend on duration of unilateral uretreal obstruction. For the experiment, 32 rats were divided into 2 groups; the first group of 12 rats were used to determine the process of hydronephrosis during 1 to 4 weeks of unilateralureteral ligation and the second group of 20 rats were used to determine the recoverability of hydronephrotic kidney depend on same duration of ureteral ligation following relief of ligation. Intravenous pyelography as undertaken and renal angiography, gross and microscopic examination were added. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. Kidney enlargement and pelvic dilatation were progressively increased with a relation to duration of ureteral obstruction until 4 weeks. 2. Renal excretory function is not impaired until 3 weeks obstruction, but rapidly impaired to nonfunctioning in 4 weeks obstruction. 3. Renal recovery was possible following relief of ureteral ligation within 3 weeks of ureteral obstruction, but histopathological and functional recovery were impossible in 4 weeks of ureteral ligation. 4. There is no direct correlation between duration of obstruction and recoverability following relief within 3 weeks of uretral obstruction. 5. Intravenous pyelographyis a simple and accurate method to determine the degree of obstructive hydronephrosis and to evaluate morphological and functional recovery of kidney following relief of obstruction.

Korean Journal of Orthodontics 1987;17(1):93-106
The purpose of this study was to investigate the fittness of Golden relation items was advocated by Ricketts whether or not it is applicable to the young adult Korean dentitions and also to evaluate the several new Golden relation items conducted by the author. The material was consisted of 81 dental casts (34 male, 47 female) with ideal occlusion, which never undergone orthodontic, prosthodontic procedures. Measurements were made on the arch dimensions using sliding caliper (Mitutoyo Co) and data were computerized and analyzed. The findings of this study were as follows, 1. The Golden proportion advocated by Ricketts dose not seem to directly applicable to the Korean normal dentition, however, the modification from the Ricketts' original shows the Golden proportion as follow. A first series of progressive Golden relations was found on the Golden ratio among the lower central incisors width, the inter mesioincisal width of the upper lateral incisors, and the upper first premolars width. A second series was found on the Golden ratio among the lower lateral incisors width, lower inter canine tips width and theupper first molar distal cusp tips width. A third series was found on the Golden ratio between the inter distal aspect width of lower canine and the mesial cusp tips width of the lower second molars or inter cusp tips width of upper second premolars. 2. In addition to RIcketts' original, 4 new Golden proportions were found in young adult Korean dentition, these are as follows, The tips of lower canine width had Golden relation with the width of the upper first premolar buccal cusp tips or the width of the lower first molar central fossae. The distal aspect of the lower first premolars had Golden relation with the buccal surface widths of the lower or upper second molars. The width of upper lateral incisors had Golden relation with the upper second molar height. The width of the lower canine tips had Golden relation with the lower second molar height.

6.A New Health Care Policy in Korea Part 2: Expansion of Coverage by National Health Insurance on the Abdominal Ultrasound and MRI
Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 2020;81(5):1069-1082
Coverage by National Health Insurance (NHI) was expanded in the abdominal imaging area as follows: upper abdominal ultrasound on April 1, 2018, lower abdominal ultrasound on February 1, 2019, and abdominal MRI on November 1, 2019. Many patients can benefit from the expansion of NHI coverage. Newly included diseases for NHI coverage includes liver cirrhosis, gallbladder polyps, hepatic adenoma/dysplastic nodules, pancreatic cysts, autoimmune pancreatitis and bile duct stone disease. However, the expansion of coverage made each examination more complex, including indications, follow-up strategy, the number of examination per patients, the standard images to be acquired, and the standard forms of the radiological report. Therefore, more careful consideration is mandatory when an abdominal imaging examination is prescribed and conducted.

PURPOSE: It has been recognized that interaction of the Fas : Fas ligand plays an important role in radiation-induced apoptosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of Fas mutation in radiation-induced apoptosis in vivo. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Mice with mutations in Fas, MRL/Mpj-Fas(lpr), and its normal control, MRL/Mpj, were used in this study. Eight-week old male mice were given whole body radiation. After irradiation, the mice were killed and their spleens were collected at different time intervals. Tissue samples were stained with hematoxylin-eosin and the numbers of apoptotic cells were scored. Regulating molecules of apoptosis including p53, Bcl-2, Bax, Bcl-XL, and Bcl-XS were also analyzed by Western blotting. RESULTS: At 25 Gy irradiation, the level of apoptosis reached the peak value at 8 hr after radiation and recovered to the normal value at 24 hr after radiation in MRL/Mpj mice. In contrast, the peak apoptosis level appeared at 4 hr after radiation in MRL/Mpj-Fas(lpr) mice. At 8 hr after radiation, the levels of apoptosis in MRL/Mpj mice and MRL/Mpj-Fas(lpr) mice were 52.3+/-7.8% and 8.0+/-8.6%, respectively (p<0.05). The expression of apoptosis regulating molecules, p53, Bcl-XL and Bcl-XS, increased in MRL/Mpj mice in response to radiation; p53 with a peak level of 3-fold at 8 h, Bcl-XL with a peak level of 3.3-fold at 12 h, and Bcl-XS with a peak level of 3-fold at 12 h after 25 Gy radiation. Bcl-2 and Bax did not show significant change in MRL/Mpj mice. However in MRL/Mpj-Fas(lpr) mice, the expression levels of p53, Bcl-2, Bax, Bcl-XL and Bcl-XS showed no significant change. CONCLUSION: The level of radiation-induced apoptosis was lower in Fas mutated mice, lpr, than in control mice. This seemed to be related to the lack of radiation-induced p53 activation in the lpr mice. This result suggests that Fas plays an important role in radiation-induced apoptosis in vivo.

10.Dose-Response Curves of Mouse Jejunal Crypt Cells by Multifrationated Irrdiation.
Journal of the Korean Society for Therapeutic Radiology 1986;4(2):89-98
Using as assay for jejunal crypt stem cell survival, dose-response curves for the reproductive capacity of crypt stem cells mouse jejunum exposed to multifractionated gamma-ray irradiation(single, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10,12, and 16 fractions) were analyzed and single-dose survival curve of these cells was constructed. The following conclusion were drawn: 1) Survival curves for higher numbers of dose fractions were displaced to higher dose, and characterized by increasingly shallower slopes. 2) The single-dose survival curve had broad shoulder, Dq=460 cGy, remaining near-exponential over initial dose range 0 to 300 cGy, with initial slope 1Do=474 cGy 3) At fractionated dose in the range of 180 to 450 cGy, the average recovered dose per fraction interval was approximately 50% of the dose per fraction. 4) The value of a/b ratio by using of linear regression analysis for the reciprocal dose plots was 8.3Gy which lied in the range of 6-14Gy for early-reacting tissues. 5) The linear-quadratic model for dose-response formula offers valid approximations for all doses to be used in radiotherapy, only two parameters to be determined, and considerable convenience in practical applications.
