AIM: The auxology-related indexes are important for tissue construction. In this article, we investigated the incidence of overweight and obesity and their effects on physical functions and qualities of Guangzhou adults in 2005. METHODS: 2 056 adults including 1 027 males and 1 029 females were randomly selected from Guangzhou in 2005 for physical examination. The anthropometric data such as body mass and height were collected to calculate body mass index (BMI). The subjects were divided according to the BMI criteria recommend by Group of China Obesity Task Force, and their physical functions and qualities were analyzed. RESULTS: In 2005, the detection rate of overweight and obesity in adult males were 28.7% and 5.2%, and in females were 18.6% and 5.3%. The values of diastole pressure and systolic pressure were increased with BMI, but the change tendency of step index and vital capacity/body mass was decreased with BMI. The rate of hypertension was increased with BMI, and male subjects had higher rate of hypertension than that of female subjects in all groups. Obese adult had the poorest values in vertical jump and sit-and-reach test. Those people with normal BMI had better balance ability than that of overweight and obese people. CONCLUSION: The rates of overweight and obesity in Guangzhou adult show a high level. The physical functions and qualities may be improved when the body mass increases or decreases in a certain range, but obesity has impact to those values.

Objective To observe the changes of peripheral blood CD27+B cells percentage in patients with HBV-related disease of different severity and the clinical significance. Methods 20 cases of chronic viral hepatitis B,23 cases of HBV-related liver cirrhosis,21 cases of liver cancer were selected,25 cases of healthy controls in the corresponding period who had the physical examination were set as the healthy control group. The peripheral blood in the healthy controls and the patients with HBV-related disease was collected. The cellular immune level changes and CD27+ B cells percentage was detected by flow cytometry, the humoral immunity was detected by immune transmission turbidty method:IgM,IgD.Results (1)Compared with the healthy control group,CD27+B cells percentage significantly decreased in the three groups of patients with HBV-related disease [(5.16 ± 0.36) % vs.(4.52 ± 0.22) %,(2.24 ± 0.15) %,(0.58 ± 0.02) %,F =4.32,P < 0.05],and the downward trend gradually obvious as the disease degree exacerbated.nnnnn(2)IgM,IgD in the three groups of HBV related disease patients rised obviously, and the increase range became more obvious as the disease degree exacerbation(F =3.29,5.23,P =0.02,0.03).Conclusion CD27+B cells has a close relationship with HBV-related disease, and rebuilding the body's immune defense system is great importance for evaluating prognosis and the clinical guidance in HBV-related disease.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the incidence of nosocomial infection in ICU patients, risk factors.and measures to prevent infection.METHODS The nosocomial infection of ICU patients in the hospitals from Nov 2005 to Jun 2009 was investigated using the method of target monitoring. The nosocomial infection rate was regulated by the method of ASA.The invasive procedure and the associated infection rate were analyzed.RESULTS Among 833 inpatients in ICU,92 suffered from nosocomial infection,The nosocomial infection rate was 11.04%.and the nosocomial infection rate per day was 4.43% after modified by the method of ASA.The incidence of patients was 5.37%.Totally 145 strains of bacteria were isolated, and the dominant pathogens were Gram-negative bacilli(56.55%).CONCLUSIONS The patients in ICU are susceptible population of nosocomial infection,A.baumannii is the dominating pathogen to cause nosocomial infection in intensive care units.Target monitoring in ICU is an effective surveillance method to reduce the prevalence of nosocomial infection.

AIM:To study the changes of mitochondria during apoptosis in Jurkat cells induced by arsenic oxide(As2O3).METHODS:By treated with 4?10-6 mol/L As2O3,apoptosis and necrosis of Jurkat cells were assessed by annexin V-FITC/PI double staining flowcytometry.Mitochondrial mass and its membrane potential(△?m)was measured by NAO/PI and DiOC6(3)/PI staining, respectively.Free radical formation was detected by DCFDA staining.RESULTS:After 48 h of As2O3 treatment, the rates of early apoptotic Jurkat cells in As2O3 and control groups were(18.98?1.40)% and(5.17?0.80)%,respectively(P

Objective To raise risk exposure awareness for spreading pathogenic microorganisms in anesthesia procedures and normalize aseptic technique of anesthesiologists, thus minimizing postoperative infection. Methods Choose 45 cases of general anesthesia.Respectively before anesthesia induction (Time0),five minutes after induction (Time1) and two hours after anesthesia (Time2),make bacteriological tests on seven spots vulnerable to contamination, including the three-way stopcock, screwtype hose coupling, oxygen flux knob,pressure-release valve surface, exhaled breath entry of the anesthesia machine, oxygen intake of the breathing loop of the anesthesia machine, and operating desktop of the anesthesia cart. Results Contamination risk exposure of the stopcock extends with the operative time.At Time 0,it is sterile; at Time 1,84.4%of the 45 cases are found with bacteria growth, with colony count of 1~2CFU/ml; at Time2,colony counts at various monitoring points range 7~21 CFU/ml,of which the differences between Timel group and Time0,as well as Time2 and Time0 are statistically significant(P<0.05).Colony counts at other monitoring points comply with the regulations. Conclusion Three-way stopcocks are highly vulnerable to contamination during operative anesthesia.Regular sterile operations can effectively prevent and lower postoperative infection of the patients.

The bovine enterovirus (BEV) is a pathogen found the digestive tracts of cattle. Recently, the BEV was discovered in cattle in a province in China. A rapid and effective detection method for the BEV is essential. An assay was carried out using two specific primers designed to amplify a highly conserved sequence of the 3D gene. A recombinant plasmid containing the target gene 3D was constructed as a standard control. The limit of detection of the reaction was 7.13 x 10(1) plasmid copies/μL of initial templates, which was tenfold more sensitive than the conventional reverse-transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Moreover, the assay was highly specific because all negative controls and other viruses of clinical relevance did not develop positive results. Assay performance on field samples was evaluated on 44 (41 diarrhea and 3 aerosol) samples and compared with the conventional RT-PCR assay. Sixteen diarrhea samples were positive (16/41, 39. 02%) and 3 aerosol samples were positive (3/3, 100%). Preliminary results for clinical detection showed that the SYBR Green I real-time PCR assay was highly sensitive, specific and reproducible. The robustness and high-throughput performance of the developed assay make it a powerful tool in diagnostic applications for epidemics and in BEV research.
