AIM:To investigate the safety and effect of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery with Cionni modified capsular tension ring (MCTR) implantation in the management of traumatic lens subluxation.METHODS: Totally 11 patients (11 eyes) with traumatic lens subluxation were divided into three groups according to the severity of lens dislocation, ranging from 90° to 120° (4 eyes), 120° to 180° (5 eyes) and 180° to 270° (2 eyes). The contact LenSx femtosecond laser cataract surgery platform was applied to create the capsulotomy, prepare nuclear fragmentation and make corneal wound creation.Anterior vitrectomy was performed in some patients during the surgery. After capsular retractors insertion and phacoemulsification, the MCTR was inserted to the capsular bag and fixed to the sclera. Finally, the IOL was implanted into the capsular bag.Postoperative visual acuity, intra-and post-operative complications, anterior capsular opening, IOL and MCTR position and intraocular pressure (IOP) were assessed.RESULTS:The duration of follow-up was 2mo.All the operations were completed successfully.Five eyes underwent cataract surgery combined with anterior vitrectomy.Four eyes had been inserted with 2-eyelet MCTR and seven eyes with 1-eyelet MCTR.The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) after operation was better than 0.5 in 4 eyes, between 0.3 and 0.5 in 3 eyes, between 0.1 and 0.3 in 3 eyes, and less than 0.1 in 1 eye.Compared with preoperative BCVA, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).All the IOLs were stably centered and the eyelet of MCTR was fixated steadily between the iris and the anterior capsule. The common intra-and post-operative complications were subconjunctival hemorrhage, incomplete capsulotomy, residual cortex, secondary glaucoma and posterior capsular opacification.CONCLUSION:Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery can improve the success rate of capsulorhexis, and reduce the difficulty of nuclear fragmentation.Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery combined with MCTR implantation is an ideal surgical method for traumatic lens subluxation.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1) on the GATA4 expression and related signaling pathways (JAK-STAT3, ERK1/2 and PI3-K) in rat cardiomyocytes.
METHODSUsing semi-quantitative RT-PCR and EMSA, we measured the dose and time dependent effects of CT-1 on GATA4 mRNA and binding activity in cultured rat cardiomyocytes. Parthenolide (a STAT inhibitor), U-0126 (an ERK inhibitor) and LY-294002 (a PI3-K inhibitor) alone or in combination were added to the culture medium to assess the role of above signaling pathways in CT-1 mediated effects.
RESULTSGATA4 mRNA expression significantly increased at 3 h post 0.1 nmol/L CT-1 exposure, peaked at 6 h and remained high till 24 h post exposure. The GATA4 binding activity began to increase at 10 min and peaked at 60 min and returned to baseline level 180 min. Six hours post CT-1 (0.01 nmol/L, 0.1 nmol/L, 1 nmol/L) exposure, the GATA4 mRNA expression increased in a dose-dependent manner. The GATA4 binding activity peaked with 0.1 nmol/L CT-1 and higher dose did not further increase the binding activity. U-0126 increased the GATA4 mRNA expression and enhanced the GATA4 binding activity and these effects could be partially attenuated with addition of Parthenolide. Parthenolide also prevented the increase of GATA4 mRNA and binding activity induced by CT-1. LY-294002 had no effects GATA4 mRNA and binding activity.
CONCLUSIONCT-1 increases the GATA4 mRNA expression and binding activity in rat cardiomyocytes via STAT3/ERK1/2 pathways and these effects are independent of PI3-K pathway.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2016;36(11):1582-1588
OBJECTIVETo systematically review the effectiveness and safety of open and laparoscopic surgeries for treatment of adrenal tumors.
METHODSThe online databases including CNKI, PUBMED, SinoMed, EBSCO, Springerlink, WanFang Data, and VIP were searched for clinical trials published from 1999 to 2016. A meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.2 software.
RESULTSA total of 2340 patients in 25 trials were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that laparoscopic surgery was better than open surgery in terms of intestinal function recovery time (OR=-0.96, 95%CI [-1.22, -0.70] P<0.000 01), hospitalization time (OR=-3.48, 95%CI [-4.13, -2.78], P<0.000 01), complications (OR=0.22, 95%CI [0.14, 0.35], P<0.0001), and volume of blood loss (OR=-104.77, 95%CI [-138.95, -70.60], P<0.000 01). There was no significant difference in the surgery cost between open and laparoscopic surgeries.
CONCLUSIONLaparoscopic surgery is superior to open surgery for treatment of adrenal tumors for shorter intestinal function recovery time, surgery duration, and hospitalization time and less complications and blood loss.
