It is aging fast in Korea like other Asian countries. Social care systems, human resources, and appropriate senior products for elderly people are important factors to keep the society ealthy and productive. In this paper, we introduce the current status of senior products and standards in Korea including the Korea Senior Product Association (KSPA); present general status of the senior industry in Korea,long-term care insurance program for the elderly as well as welfare items; discuss problems and importance of standardization in the senior industry, the scope of senior products, and the current status of standardization.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1986;27(5):752-762
A clinical study of the refractive and visual results with 104 consecutive implantations of the intraocular lens was performed between July 1984 and April 1986. Postoperative refraction of myopia was observed in 56.7% of patients, and emmetropia in 21.1%, hyperopia in 22.2%. Visual acuity of 0.5 or better at 2 month after operation was revealed in 88.9% of cases studied; 90.3% in 62 cases of posterior chamber lens implantations and 85.7% in 28 cases of anterior chamber lens implantations. There was no statistically significant difference between visual results after anterior chamber lerts and posterior chamber lens implantation.

5.Difficult Intubation in Post-Orthognathic Surgical Patient.
Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1995;28(5):734-736
This 17 year-old male patient had an experience of a difficult intubation problem on miniplate removal operation after orthognathic surgery, but he didn't have the same problem on a previous orthognathic surgery 1 year before. He suffers from mental retardation and speaking disability due to congenital brain damage. I think difficult exposure of the larynx was caused by the imbalance of neck muscle force and jaw instability, as result from surgery. The preoperative airway evaluation is very important because findings may dictate choice of intubation technique. A flexible fiberoptic laryngoscope may be the most useful aid to awake intubation in the patient with a known difficult airway.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1997;38(5):739-743
We performed the deep lamellar keratoplasties in which stroma about 90% in thickness were removed on 15 patients(12 males and 3 females). The patients included in this study showed deep corneal opacity preserving endothelium intact. During the operation, we experienced microperforation in 3 cases, but no complications were found with immediate closure. After the operation, all patients acquired the corneal clarity except one whose cornea was opaque as the Grade II by the slit lamp examination. The patients had visual improvement of two lines or more in Snellen chart. Three patients had no change of visual acuity and one patient bad astigmatism more than 3D. Only one patient suffered the stromal rejection raction, but improved with the use of oral steroid and topical steroid eye drops.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1999;40(12):3482-3490
We reviewed the clinical characteristics and surgical results of patients who had consecutive esotropia after exotropia surgery with at least 6 months of follow-up. The number of transient esotropic cases with more than 10 prism diopter postoperatively was 105[9%] in total 1128 cases and persistent esotropic cases at least for six months after surgery was 24[2%]. Significant correlations were found between the development of consecutive esotropia and the presence of amblyopia[p=0.04], poor stereopsis[p=0.02], suppression of the Worth 4-dot test[p<.01], and recession-resction surgery[p=0.02]. The corrective surgery for consecutive esotropia was performed on 12 cases[1.1%] with unilateral lateral rectus advancement[7 cases], bilateral lateral rectus advancement[3 cases], unilateral medial rectus recession[1 case] and bilateral medial rectus recession[1 case]. All of them showed good results.

Korean Journal of Urology 1994;35(8):883-886
Diabetic complications such as cystopathy and retrograde ejaculation are slowly progressive disease without any specific signs and symptoms so it is difficult to diagnose its complication and prevent it. Diabetic autonomic neuropathy is known as a neurologic lesion with combined involvement in cardiovascular and genitourinary systems. The purpose of this study is to assess correlation between diabetic cystopathy and heart rate variation on consecutive EKG waves and to detect early cystopathy in patients with decreased heart rate variation. We have studied 12 cases of diabetic cystopathy and 9 cases of retrograde ejaculation who were managed in Seoul Eulji Hospital from Mar. 1992 to Aug. 1993 and concluded as follows. Diabetic patients with autonomic neuropathy shows decreased heart rate variability(HRV) (CV%: 2.16+/-0.97) than diabetic patients without autonomic neuropathy (CV%: 3.29+/-0.58, P <0.0001 ), it means that decreased HRV on consecutive EKG waves well correlates to diabetic autonomic neuropathy such as cystopathy and retrograde ejaculation so we think that the measurement of HRV provides a simple test to be concerned urologic complications such as cystopathy or retrograde ejaculation.

Systemic lupus erythematosus is a systemic disorder which has frequent involvement of gastrointestinal tract. Non specific symptoms such as anorexia, nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain are well known symptoms when the gastrointestinal tract is involved. The most feared gastrointestinal complication of systemic lupus erythematosus is lupus enteritis. The pathological change in lupus enteritis is usually a result of mesenteric vasculitis. Major complications such as intestinal bleeding and perforation may occur and sometimes result in sugery. Because of high mortality rate in case of major complications, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment is very important. We experienced three patients with lupus enteritis who presented with severe abdominal pain and dirrhea. They were diagnosed by characteristic radiographical findings of small bowel series and barium study. All radiographical findings has been resolved completely with the steroid therapy. Conclusively we can induce complete remission by steroid therapy alone, if we diagnose lupus enteritis in the early period of disease course.

10.The Value of Ureaplasma Urealyticum and Chlamydia Trachomatis in Female Urethral Syndrome.
Korean Journal of Urology 1987;28(2):263-267
We have experienced the female urethral syndrome in many patient, but we are embarrassed in identifying the exact cause of each case and searching for the treatment modalities. I thought there was a possibility of infection or local irritation by Ureaplasma urealyticum and Chlamydia trachomatis as an evoking factor of this syndrome. We have reviewed 32 women referred to Severance Hospital who complained irritative symptom of lower urinary tract without evidence of UTI and have come to the conclusion as follows 1. There was high isolation rate of ureaplasma urealyticum and Chlamydia trachomatis in female urethral syndrome. 2. There was no difference between isolation rate and age, or menopause. 3. There was high correlation between urethral and cervical isolation.
