With the rapid development of medical science,‘ faithfulness, expressiveness and elegancy' theory has been endued with novel implications and can guide the translation of medical English.A translation of medical English with high quality should contain faithful information, grammatically complete sentences and understandable words as well as maintain the stylistic features of Chinese abstract, which lead to the speciality and rigour of the article. The guiding role of ‘ faithfulness, expressiveness and elegancy' theory in the understanding and translation of English papers was discussed in this article with common problems selected from medical journals.Several suggestions were proposed to the translators of medical English on the practice of the theory.
3.Role of Apoptosis in Acute Rejection of Pancreaticoduodenal Transplantation in Rats
Chinese Journal of Bases and Clinics in General Surgery 2004;0(01):-
Objective To investigate the roles of cell apoptosis and the gene expressions of Fas, FasL, bcl-2 and bax in acute rejection of pancreaticoduodenal transplantation and to evaluate the function of duodenum biopsy for early detection of rejection in rats. Methods Wistar and SD rats were divided into two groups: ①Wistar rats that underwent allogenic pancreaticoduodenal transplantation from the organs of SD rats; ②Wistar rats that received homogenic transplantation. The grafts were then harvested on day 3, 5 and 7 after the transplantation, and all graft samples were observed with HE staining and TUNEL was also used to detect apoptotic cells. The expressions of Fas, FasL, bcl-2 and bax were measured by immunochemical method. According to Nakhleh’s score, pathologic features of transplanted pancreas and duodenum were ranged from one to three scores in order. Results The percentage of same or different scores between the pathological scores of pancreas and duodenum in allogenic pancreaticoduodenal transplantation group were 61.1% (11/18) and 38.9% (7/18) respectively, and there were 6 specimens of pancreatic tissue got higher scores with only one higher score for duodenum. There were significant differences of histopathologic rejection scores and apoptotic indices between the two groups, respectively (P

5.Prognostic factors of 152 cases with Ⅲ/Ⅳ stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma
China Oncology 1998;0(04):-
Purpose:To compare the survival rates of hyperf ractionated radiotherapy plus concurrent chemotherapy with hyperfractionated rad iotherapy alone in the treatment of stage Ⅲ/Ⅳ nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) a nd analyze the prognostic factors. Methods:Between December 1992 and December 1995, 144 NPC patien ts were randomized into hyperfractionated radiotherapy plus concurrent chemother apy (R +C) and hyperfractionated radiotherapy alone (R alone).Radiotherapy were similar in the two groups: 1.2 Gy/f, twice a day. Chemotherapy was given to R + C patients before and during the course of radiotherapy. Results:The 5-year overall survival rates of the R + C and R alone groups were 63.3% and 50.7%,repectively . The factors influencing the resu lts were N stage, chemotherapy and the peripheral blood hemoglobin concentration . Conclusions:Hyperfractionated radiotherapy plus concurrent chem otherapy can improve the survival rate, especially for the patients with N2-N3 stage. The negative prognostic factors for Ⅲ/Ⅳ NPC are N2-N3 stage, radiothera py alone and the reduction of hemoglobin during treatment.

Chinese Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgery 2001;0(04):-
Objective To explore the accuracy of hysteroscopy as a diagnosis for endometrial carcinoma and to determine if the procedure increase the rate of positive peritoneal cytology in the patients. Methods The peritoneal cytology of 36 patients with endometrial carcinoma diagnosed by D&C or hysteroscopy was retrospectively analyzed. Results The peritoneal cytology was positive in 1 (5.9%) of the 17 cases diagnosed by D&C and 2 (10.5%) of the 19 cases diagnosed by hysteroscopy (P=1.000). Based on the pathological examination, the accuracy of D&C was 52.9% (9/17),which was significantly lower than that of hysteroscopy [89.5% (17/19),P=0.025]. In the cases with stage Ⅰ endometrial carcinoma, the diagnostic accordance rate of hysteroscopy was 85.7% (12/14),while that of the D&C was 42.9% (6/14,P=0.040). The 36 patients were followed up for 2 months to 4 and a half year (over 1 year in 28 cases). One patient with Ⅲc stage carcinoma died of recurrent tumor in 2 years after the treatment. Conclusion Hysteroscopy shows higher diagnosis accuracy with no evidence indicating an increased rate of positive peritoneal cytology compared to D&C.

Orthopedic Journal of China 2006;0(09):-
[Objective]To investigate the osteogenic ability in vivo of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs).[Method]Ten-fifteen ml bone marrow aspirates were harvested from the iliac crest of sheep and enriched for MSCs by density gradient centrifugation over a Percoll cushion(1.073 g/ml).After cultured and proliferated, the tissue-engineered bones were constructed with these cells and seeded onto porous 13-tricalcium phosphate ceramics(13-TCP).Then,the constructs were implanted into left metatarsus defect(21 mm in length)of 8 sheep as an experimental group.Porous ?-TCP composed with bone marrow was implanted into defects of same size and position in 8 sheep as a control group.Sheep were sacrificed in the 6th,12th,and 24th week postoperatively, and the implanted samples were examined by radiograph, histology, and biomechanical analysis.[Result]New bone tissue was observed either radiographically or histologically at the defect area of experimental group as early as the 6th week postoperatively;but was not observed in the control group.Because of the new bone formed in a direct manner without progression through a cartilaginous process intermediately, osteoid tissue, woven bone and lamellar bone, occurred earlier in the experimental group than in the control group,in which the bone defects were repaired in a "creep substitution" manner. At the 24th week, radiographs and biomechanical tests revealed an almost complete repair of the defect in experimental group, but only a partial repair in the control group.[Conclusion]MSCs have good reproductive activity not only in vitro, but also in vivo. The new bone formed in a direct manner without progression through a cartilaginous process intermediately when MSCs were transplanted in vivo. The results demonstrated that MSCs was an excellent seed cells for bone tissue engineering.

Objective To evaluate the curative efficacy of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) on bile leaks after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Methods Data of 12 cases, hospitalized in our hospital from March 2013 to February 2016, with bile leaks after OLT confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging of the pancreas (MRCP) or ERCP were retrospectively analyzed . The curative efficacy of ERCP was evaluated including clinical symptoms of bile leaks and complications, occurrence time and location, diagnosis and treatment process and efficacy. Results In this study, 12 cases were male patients, with the average age of 49.75 ± 8.55 (age from 35 to 62 years old). Among them 11 cases were successfully treated by endoscopic nasobiliary drainage (ENBD), and the success rate of endoscopical therapy was 91.7%, the curative rate of bile leaks was 91.7%(11/12). No ERCP related serious complications and death were found in patients. Nine cases combined with biliary strictures and/or biliary duct stone/bile plug were performed endoscopic sphinctrotomy (EST) during the first time of ERCP, and accepted further ERCP treatment after 2 weeks when the bile leaks were healed. All patients with ENBD were carried out well except one case. Conclusion ERCP is a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment method for different types of bile leaks after OLT.
