Objective To observe the effectiveness of Chinese herbal medicine plus movement therapy in treating upper limb spasticity in hemiplegic patients. Methods Sixty-six patients were divided randomly into two groups. Thirty-five patients in the therapy group were treated with Chinese herbal medicine and movement therapy, and 31 patients in the control group were treated with movement therapy alone. The modified Ashworth scale and sur- face electromyography were applied to evaluate spasticity. Results The total effectiveness rates were 94.3% in the therapy group and 64.5% in the control group. After treatment, the average integrated electromyogram (IEMG) val- ue in the therapy group was lower than that in the control group. The difference in IEMG values before and after treat- ment in the therapy group was significantly larger than in the control group. Conclusion Chinese herbal medicine plus movement therapy is more effective than movement therapy alone in relieving spasticity.

Objective To explore the value of laparoscopic ovarian drilling in the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome with infertility.Methods The clinical data of 51 patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome with infertility undergone laparoscopic ovarian drilling were reviewed.The Serum concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH),luteinizing hormone(LH),androgen(T),and estradiol(E2) were measured before and after the operation in all of the cases.Meanwhile,ovarian follicular development and pregnancy rate were observed during follow-up.Results Significantly decreased levels of FSH,LH,LH /FSH,and T were observed after the laparoscopic ovarian drilling in the patients(P

BACKGROUND:Transforming growth factor-βhas been shown to exert an obvious induction effect on the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into chondrocytes. Cyclical tensile strain simulates mechanical environment of chondrocytes in the body, and plays an important regulatory role in cellproliferation and differentiation. OBJECTIVE:To discuss the synergy of transforming growth factor-βand cyclical tensile strain in inducing the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into chondrocyte-like cells. METHODS:A total of 10 2-month-old New Zealand rabbits were selected. Bone needle was used to penetrate the medul ary cavity of bone. 3.0-4.0 mL of bone marrow was extracted for isolation and culture of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Passage 3 cells were randomly assigned to four groups:blank, transforming growth factor-β, cyclical tensile strain and cyclical tensile strain+transforming growth factor-βgroups. After 1, 3 and 6 days, cells were obtained. General morphology was observed using safranin O staining. Glycosaminoglycan levels were detected by alcian blue staining. Matrix metal oproteinase-13 and tissue inhibitor of metal oproteinase-1 levels in supernatant were measured using ELISA. Type II col agen, matrix metal oproteinase-13 and tissue inhibitor of metal oproteinase-1 mRNA relative expression was detected using RT-PCR. Glycosaminoglycan levels in the supernatant were greater in the transforming growth factor-βand cyclical tensile strain+transforming growth factor-βgroups than in the blank group (P<0.05). Type II col agen mRNA relative expression was higher in the cyclical tensile strain+transforming growth factor-βgroup than in the blank group (P<0.05). Results indicated that transforming growth factor-βand cyclical tensile strain could induce the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into chondrocytes, showing an apparent cooperative action.

Objective To investigate reconstructive repair methods of a large scalp defect with the granulation tissue wounds and skull exposure caused by the trauma.Methods Skin and soft tissue expansion technique was used to repair eight patients with a large scalp defect with the granulation tissue wounds and skull exposure caused by the trauma.The skin and soft tissue expanders were embedded under normal epicranial aponeurosis after the formation of fresh granulation tissue wound.Strict aseptic technique as well as water injection was done in the expansion process and moderate expansion to maintain rich blood circulation in the expansive parts.Results 12 skin and soft tissue expanders were implanted in 8 patients and the scalp wounds were completely repaired.No infection was detected after surgery and injection expansion process.Conclusions The skin and soft tissue expansion can be used to reconstruct post-traumatic scalp defect with granulation tissue wound and skull exposure.

This study was aimed to establish Chinese medicine efficacy concept network in order to reveal the in-ner relation between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and efficacy as well as to suggest the application way of efficacy concept network. Through the collation of medicine efficacy recorded in the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China (2010 Edition, Volume I), the correlation relationship between TCM efficacy concept was systematically analyzed, and the efficacy concept network was constructed in order to extract specific effica-cy sub-network based on efficacy concept network and then to discover the efficacy groups by utilizing the net-work clustering algorithm. In the Chinese medicine efficacy concept network, 422 efficacy concepts were con-structed and 21 tightly efficacy groups were discovered. Using the efficacy of promoting blood circulation as an example, the application of sub-networks was discussed. Chinese medicine efficacy concept network can be used to reflect the basic theory and clinical experiences in Chinese medicine , to systematically reveal the relationship between TCM efficacy concepts, which can be beneficial to guide the reasonable application of Chinese medicine in disease treatment .

ObjectiveTo study the effects of different priming dose of muscle relaxant at the onset and endotracheal intubation conditions.Methods120 ASA Ⅰ～Ⅱ grade patients were randomly divided into 6 groups (n=6),vecuronium group (V 1,V2,V3) and cis-atrscurium group (C1,C2,C3).All patients were induced with propofol plasma (TCI)3 μg/ml,fentanil3 μg/kg.The V1 and C1 group were not given priming dose,and the V2,V3,C2,C3 groups were given priming dose of 10 μg/kg,20 μg/kg vecuronium and 15 μg/kg,30 μg/kg cis-atracurium.Intubating conditions were evaluated,and the onset time was monitored with train-of-four (TOF) technique.ResultsIntubating conditions were excellent in all patients.The onset time of priming groups of the four different doses was significantly shorter than that of the nonpriming group [(80.5±7.2) vs (146±10.7);(79.8±6.5) vs (146±10.7);(138.5±7.2) vs (218±10.7) ; (127.1±6.5) vs (218±10.7),P ＜ 0.05 ].ConclusionsThe taking-effect time of priming dose of muscle relaxant was significantly shorter than that of the nonpriming dose group.Increasing the priming dose not decrease onset time more than the smaller dose.

Functional analysis concisely summarizes and concentrates on the therapeutic characteristics and features of Chinese herbal medicine. Standardization of the terms for Chinese herbal functions not only plays a key role in modern research and development of Chinese herbal medicine, but also has far-reaching clinical applications. In this paper, a new method for standardizing the terms for Chinese herbal function was proposed. Firstly, functional targets were collected. Secondly, the pathological conditions and the mode of action of every functional target were determined by analyzing the references. Thirdly, the relationships between the pathological condition and the mode of action were determined based on Chinese medicine theory and data. This three-step approach allows for standardization of the terms for Chinese herbal functions. Promoting the standardization of Chinese medicine terms will benefit the overall clinical application of Chinese herbal medicine.
