Intermedin can promote tumor angiogenesis through a variety of signaling pathways. Hypoxia of tumor cells can induce an increased expression of intermedin. Recently, there have been a surge of researches on the relation between intermedin and tumor initiation, progression and metastasis. Intermedin may be a new target for tumor therapy.

Acquired resistance of EGFR-TKIs has become the major limitation of the efficacy of targeted therapy for lung cancer. Lung cancer has been treated by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combined with EGFR-TKIs, which originated from clinic. In recent years, reversing research has been conducted based on clinic application to discuss TCM intervening, improving and reversing EGFR-TKIs acquired resistance becoming a novel target for research. This article reviewed mechanism and effects of TCM herbs and compounds’ with the efficacy of clearing away heat and toxic materials, promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis strengthening the body resistance, and invigorating the circulation of blood, and proposed that the whole regulation and targeted therapy of TCM may carry out synergistic effect and become innovation treatment model for lung cancer.

Objective To explore the correlation between anemia and the pathogenesis and prognosis of patients with lung cancer. Methods From January 2013 to December 2014, 257 patients with primary lung cancer who were firstly treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical data of the patients were collected and the patients were divided into anemia group and control group. The relationship of gender, age, and pathogenesis with anemia was analyzed by x 2 test. Survival analysis was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier and Log-rank test. Results The TNM stage, lymph nodes and remote metastasis , and ECOG score between the two groups were statistically different (x 2 values were 7.94, 4.97, 4.69, 9.02, all P< 0.05). The survival of the two groups showed statistical differences (x2=7.02, P=0.008). Conclusion Anemia might be correlated with the stage, lymph nodes and remote metastasis, ECOG score and prognosis of patients with lung cancer.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PH) is a severe condition characterized by a progressive increase in pulmonary vascular resistance. The Endothelial dysfunction plays an important role in the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension. PH can be treated by antagonism of ET-1.

Free radicals are highly reactive molecules generated predominantly during cellular respiration and normal metabolism. Imbalance between cellular production of free radicals and the ability of cells to defend against them is referred to oxidative stress (OS). OS has been implicated as a potential contributor to the pathogenesis of ischemic cerebrovascular diseases. After brain injury by ischemia, the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) may increase, leading to tissues damage via several different cellular molecular pathways. Radicals can cause damage to cardinal cellular components such as lipids, proteins, and neucleic acids, leading to subsequent cell death by modes of necrosis or apoptosis. Treatment with antioxidants may prevent propagation of tissues damage and improve both the survival and neurological outcome. The present paper reviews the antioxidants therapy in ischemic cerebrovascular disease, discusses probable reasons of inconsistency between animal experiments and clinical trials on antioxidants, and puts forward strategies against oxidative stress in the treatment of ischemic cerebrovascular diseases.

AIM: To separate and determine berberine type alkaloids in Huanglian Shangqing Pills(tablets)(Rhizoma Coptidis,Fructus Gardeniae,Fructus Forsythiae,Cortex Phellodendri Chinensis,etc.). METHODS: RP-HPLC was used,and the mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile-solution of potassium phosphate(3.4 g?L~(-1),adjust pH to 3.0 with H_3PO_4)(40∶60),with 1.7 g?L~(-1) SDS.The detecting wavelength was at 345 nm. RESULTS: The contents of five kinds of berberine type alkaloids,berberine,palmatine,coptisine,epiberberine and jatrorrhizine in Huanglian Shangqing Pills(tablets) produced by 10 pharmaceutical factories were determined. CONCLUSION: The method is simple,accurate with a good recovery and repeatability.The method can be used to control the quality of Huanglian Shangqing Pills(Tablets).

Melanoma-associated antigen MAGE-A3 is expressed in various types of tumors,but not in normal cells except testis and placenta.MAGE-A3 can be presented by both HLA class I and HLA class II molecules after being processed into antigen peptide.MAGE-A3 has recently been widely used in the diagnosis and immunotherapy of tumors.This article reviews the applications of MAGE-A3 in the diagnosis and immunotherapy of tumors.

Liver fibrosis is the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins that occurs in most types of chronic liver diseases. Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are major sources of the excess ECM deposited in fibrotic liver. Transforming growth factor ? (TGF-?) is considered to play a generic role in the development of tissue fibrosis, as it stimulates the synthesis and deposition of ECM components. Smad pathways are central mediators of signals from the receptors for transfor- ming TGF-? to the nucleus. However, growing biochemical and developmental evidence supports the notion that non-Smad pathways also participate in TGF-? signalling. TGF-? signalling pathways play an important role in regulating tissue homeostasis and have been implicated implicated in diverse pathological conditions. It is oow our challenge to design ways of blocking the fibrosis-specific actions of TGF-? through downstream signalling pathways and mediators without compromising the other activities of this multifunctional cytokine, which is essential for health.
