Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) for submucosal tumors in upper gastrointestinal tract, and its influence on choice of endoscopic therapies. Methods A total of 82 submucosal tumors from upper gastrointestinal tract were examined by EUS, and treated by various endoscopic therapeutic techniques including fulguration with high frequency current ( FHFC), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic band ligation according to orion, size and property of the lesion. The diagnoses of 58 reseeted samples were determined by routine pathological examination and immunohistochemistry. All patients were followed up with routine endoscopy and EUS. Results FHFC was applied in 26 lesions originated from muscularis mucosa, EMR was used in 17 flat lesions originated from muscularis mucosa, and endoscopic band ligation in 38 lesions from muscularis propria and 1 tumor from muscularis mucosa. The diagnostic accuracy of EUS was 91.4% (53/58). Except for post-operative bleeding in 1 patient, no other complications were observed. A total of 79 cases were followed up for 3-24 months, and no recurrence was found. Conclusion EUS can display the origin and property of submucosal tumors in upper gastrointestinal tract and guide the selection of endoscopic therapy, which is effective and safe in treatment of submucosal tumor in upper gastrointestinal tract.

Apoptosis is one of the important forms during cerebral ischemia.Phosphoinositide-3 kinase (PI3K)/serine/threonine kinase (Akt) is the important cell survival signaling pathway, while c-jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) is the important pro-apoptotic signaling pathway. The dynamic equilibrium of the two signal transduction pathways maintains cell survival and apoptosis under the physiological state.Stimulation during cerebral ischemia breaks this physiological balance and results in the apoptosis of massive neurons.A variety of proved neuroprotective factors are associated with the amplification of enhancement of cell survival signal or inhibition of apoptosis signal, and thrus maintain the balance between the two signal pathways.

Aim To test the skin healing and repairing efficacy and the mechanism of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L bud extract by using the animal models. Methods KM mice were randomly divided into three groups:the model group, the positive control group, and the n-bu-tyl alcohol extract ( HrBN) group. Using the boils and carbuncles model, the healing condition of all the animals were observed. KM mice were kept in the SPF condition room and divided into five groups: the model group, the positive control group, and the low, middle, high dose groups. Using the full-thickness loss model, the repairing results of all the mice were ob-served. Through the antimicrobial test, the results of MIC and inhibition zone were obtained. The carbon clearance test was used to collect the blood at the time 5min and 15min, and get the liver and spleen, and the results of K andαwere obtained. Results In vivo ex-periments showed there was significant difference be-tween groups;the HrBN extract had the outstanding ef-ficacy in healing and repairing skin boils and full-thickness loss models. It had higher recovery rate than other ethanol extract, such as ethyl acetate extract and chloroform extract. In vitro experiments showed that the HrBN extract, ethyl acetate extract ( HrBE) ,AB-8 macroporous resin 30% alcohol part and 60% alcohol part had obvious antimicrobial efficacy. The carbon clearance test showed HrBN had a good effect in im-proving immune function, and it can increase the K and α. Conclusion HrBN in animal models exerts good skin healing and repairing efficacy, which might be related to its antibacterial activity and immunologic enhancement function.

ObjectiveTo investigate the possible mechanisms for biocompatibility of chitosan material using agarose/chitosan blended hydrogels as a model. Methods A series of agarose/chitosan blended hydrogels with different chitosan content were prepared by the blending method. The chemical groups of the blended hydrogels were analyzed by the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The blending compatibility between the agarose and chitosan was evaluated with the fluorescein-4-isothiocyanate (FITC) staining method. The charge of the blended hydrogels was determined by the zeta potential measurement. The adsorption of total fetal bovine serum (FBS) proteins and bovine serum albumin (BSA) on the blended hydrogels was measured by the bicinchoninic acid (BCA) method. The adsorption of fibronectin (FN) on the blended hydrogels was measured with ELISA.Cell culture experiment adopted human microvascular endothelial cell line (HMEC-1) as the model. The cytocompatibility was studied by evaluating adhesion, proliferation, and morphology of the cells on the blended hydrogels. Results Characteristic chemical groups of chitosan could be detected in the agarose/chitosan blended hydrogels. The chitosan had a good blending compatibility with the agarose. The amino groups of chitosan were uniformly distributed in the blended hydrogels. The blended hydrogels were strongly positively charged at acidic pH (pH 3.0),however,the zeta potentials of all the hydrogels were reduced to nearly 0 mV at neutral pH (pH 7.4).There were no significant differences in the adsorption of total FBS proteins and BSA between the blended hydrogel groups. However, the adsorption of FN on the hydrogels significantly increased with the increase of chitosan content.Cell culture experiment indicated that the cytocompatibihty of the blended hydrogels was significantly improved with the increase of chitosan content. The HMECs exhibited higher levels of adhesion, spreading, and proliferation on the hydrogels with higher chitosan content.ConclusionResults in this study indicated that the chitosan component preferentially adsorbed FN compared to the other serum proteins, leading to adhesion and spreading of the cells on the blended hydrogels. In contrast to prevailing views,it was found in the present study that the biocompatibility of chitosan did not relate to its positive charge.
