[Objective]To evaluate the clinical and radiological findings in 56 patients with multilevel lumbar spinal stenosis in pre-and post-surgical treatment. [Method]From 1998 and 2002,56 patients suffering from multilevel lumbar spinal stenosis were included in a retrospective clinical study.Plain radiographs,MRI and/or CT myelograms were obtained preoperatively. The patients were assessed clinically with Oswestry disability index(ODI),visual analog scale(VAS) and the Beaujon functional score.Surgical procedure included wide posterior decompression and fusion using a transpedicular instrumentation system and bone grafts. [Result]After a mean follow-up of 2.2(2~2.6) years, the patients' clinical improvement by ODI,VAS was statistically significant and the Beaujon score was significantly improved(P

Background and purpose:Studies have shown that DOC-2 could work as a potential tumor suppressor geue, and the role of DOC-2 in terms of the inhibition of cell growth and its mechanism remain unknown. Our paper is to investigate the effect and mechanism of DOC-2 expression on the tumorigenesis viability of ovarian cancer cell line HO-8910 from the aspects of clone efficiency, cell cycle and animal model test. Methods:Three cell lines were used including HO-8910,8910-P93(transfected with DOC-2 gene) and 8910-pcDNA3.1(transfected with the vector pcDNA3.1).Firstly,soft agar method was used to measure the clone efficiency. The cell cycle were analyzed by flow cytometer. The tumorigenesis viability was compared by athymic mouse test. Results:After being transfected with DOC-2 gene, the clone efficiency of 8910-P93 was markedly reduced. There was no difference between the 8910-pcDNA3.1 and HO-8910.G1 and G2 arrest were observed for 8910-P93.The athymic mouse test showed that the neoplasm derived from 8910-P93 was much smaller than that in the controls.Conclusions:DOC-2 could iniibit the tumorigenesis viability of human ovarian cancer line HO-8910.

Objective To evaluate Test-retest reliability of Mandarin monosyllable lists with equivalency in audibility in hearing loss group. Methods Mandarin monosyllable lists were used to test 18 adults with moderate-to-severe sensorineural hearing loss. Each people was tested twice with an interval of several days and with same test conditions including same lists order, same presentation level, and same tester. List number to begin with was different between people. All test lists for one patient were presented by 30 dB above his hearing threshold levels. Recognition scores were recorded in both tests. The results were analyzed using SPSS. Results Pearson product-moment correlation between the scores of two tests was 0. 931 (P<0. 001). The average critical difference was 16.3 % at the 95 % confidence level after the scores transformed into "rationalized" arcsine unit (RAU). Conclusion The average critical difference is 16. 3% at the 95% confidence level which is less than in the normal hearing group. All the lists have good test-retest reliability, and can be used in extensive clinical practice.

Microbiology 1992;0(03):-
The medium of photo-synthetic bacteria synthesizing carotenoid was optimized with response surface methodology. The regression equation expressing the relationship between carotenoid yield and main components of culture medium was established by stepwise analysis. The R-squared in the model of regression equation was 0. 958, which meant the established equation could predict the carotenoid yield well at the range of factors in this design. It was indicated that the optimum medium components were: 0. 81% citric acid, 0. 35% NH4Cl and 0. 18% corn syrup. On those conditions, it was predicted that the highest production of carotenoid was 13. 34 mg/L, which was 2. 04 times higher than initial carotenoid yield before optimization.

Objective To investigate the effectiveness of training at morning shift meeting in improving healthcare-associated infection(HAI) prevention and control among health care workers(HCWs) in newly established hospital departments. Methods On July 11-22, 2016, HAI management full-time personnel performed training for HCWs about HAI prevention and control at morning shift meeting of 8 newly established clinical departments and 1 laboratory, the questionnaire survey was conducted before, immediately after, and 3 months after training, training effectiveness was evaluated. Results A total of 239 HCWs were required to receive training, including 85 doctors (35.6%), 150 nurses (62.8%), and 4 technicians (1.7%).The knowledge of HAI prevention and control that most HCWs wanted to know was occupational exposure and occupational precaution(85.6%);most HCWs wanted to obtain knowledge of HAI through training in their respective department by HAI management full-time personnel(87.1%).Total awareness rates of HAI knowledge before, immediately after, and 3 months after training were 45.1%, 96.7%, and 83.9% respectively, difference was significant(P<0.001);comparison among groups showed that HCWs'' awareness in influencing factors of HAI, hand hygiene opportunity, isolation measures, and medical waste classification 3 months after training was significantly lower than immediately after training(all P<0.001);the average scores of HAI prevention and control knowledge among HCWs immediately after and 3 months after training were both higher than before training(P<0.001);average score of HAI prevention and control knowledge among HCWs 3 months after training was lower than that of immediately after training(P<0.001).Conclusion The training at morning shift meeting of clinical departments can improve the awareness of HAI prevention and control knowledge among HCWs.

To increase the biotransfomation efficiency from the orotic acid to the uridine 5'-monophosphate(UMP),URA5 gene encoding orotate phosphoribosytransferase was amplified from Saccharomyces cerevisiae BY4742 by PCR,then it was inserted into the expression vector pYX212(contained orotidine monophosphate decarboxylase gene URA3)and the pYX212-URA5 was transformed into Saccharomyces cerevisiae BJX12 by electroporation. The recombinant strain was elementarily used to convert orotic acid to UMP.The results showed that pYX212-URA5/BJX12 could accumulate 7mmol/L UMP from 32mmol/L orotic acid in 26h,significantly higher than both control groups pYX212/BJX12(2.7mmol/L) and BJX12(2.4 mmol/L).

Objective To examine among preschool children the validity, reliability and sensitivity of a new assessment tool of Mandarin sentence recognition in babble noise, consisting of twenty-seven equivalent lists, as well as to investigate the effect of age and gender on children's speech recognition. Methods Fifty-four normalhearing children aged 4 to 6 years were recruited from Beijing and were divided into three age groups (4~, 4.5~,and 5.0~6.0 years) containing 18 children each, half boys and half girls. According to randomized split-plot design, we examined their speech recognition ability with 27 sentence-in-babble-noise lists in a sound-treated booth in a kindergarten (ambient noise <40 dB). The sentences were presented at fixed intensity of 65 dB SPL, paired with competing babble noise at three different signal to noise ratios (SNR= +1, -2, -5 dB) by the same loudspeaker with 0° azimuth. Speech recognition score were calculated based on the children's repetition of keySNR functions exhibited that the threshold was -1.96±0. 19 dB SNR and the slope was 15.8%±1.1%/dB for of variance and Post- Hoc Scheffe test indicated that significant differences in performance were most pronounced between the 4~ year group and the other two groups (P<0.001), while there was no significant difference between 4.5~ year group and 5.0~6. 0 year group (P=0. 90). The girls' performance was also significantly better than boys' (P<0. 001). Conclusion The 27 lists of Mandarin speech recognition in babble noise were equivalent among children, and the sensitivity of performance versus SNR was 15.8%/dB. Both of them were below the adult averchildren aged 4.5~ up years. Even though the performance differed between boys and girls, the difference was relatively small compared to 24.6%, the critical difference as the reliability indicator.
