In order to study the factors influencing quantitative measurement of CT lung densitometry, 54 healthy adults underwent lung spiral scans at 50 % vital capacity (VC). Among the 54 cases, 40 received HRCT scan at carina and 5 cm away from carina (± 5 cm) at 10 % VC and 90 % VC, 23 lung HRCT at those three sections at 50 % VC. Using automatic evaluation software-Pulmo, mean lung density (ME) and pixel index (PI) at each section were evaluated. It was found that the depth of respiration affected ME and PI markedly. The ME changed 125.91 Hu between 10 % VC to 90 % VC. The ME and PI were also influenced by collimation, age and sex. It was concluded that it was very important to control the depth of respiratory. The normal CT attenuation values for the lung should be established.

Chinese Journal of Radiology 2009;43(5):480-485
Objective To analyze the indications of clip deployment and influencing factors for clip dislocation immediately after stereotactic vacuum-assisted breast biopsy. Methods One hundred and fourteen microcalcifications in 108 women aged 35 to 85 years old (median 63 years) underwent 11-gauge stereotactic vacuum-assisted breast biopsy. Every lesion was marked on biopsy site with Gel Mark Ultra clips (n = 82) or MicroMark Ⅱ clips ( n = 32) after biopsy. All microcalcifications were classified 3 mono-focal groups: < 10 mm, 10--20 mm, > 20 mm and one muhi-focal group according to its diameter and distribution. The distances between clips and biopsy sites were directly measured on post-biopsy craniocaudal and mediolateral mammograms. The distance was recorded as < 10 mm, 10--20 mm and >20 mm. Results 88% (22/25) of mono-focal microcalcifications smaller than 10 mm and 70% (14/20) of mono-focal microcalcifications measured 10--20 mm were completely removed on mammograms, whereas none of mono-focal microcalcifications larger than 20 mm (n = 17) was completely removed. 65.8% (75/114) of the clips were accurately located. Thirty-nine clips were dislocated on at least one projection with 87.2% (34/39) of the clips dislocated only along the needle track, which is called "accordion effect". Hematoma was found in 4 patients, and the clip was accurately localized only in one case with hematoma, Conclusions Clips should be deployed as a standard procedure for mono-focal microcalcifications smaller than 20 mm and all multi-focal mierocalcifications. The major reasons for clip dislocation immediately after biopsy are the accordion effect and hematoma.

Objective To explore the influence of XTP4 on genomic expression profile of hepatocyte through screening and cloning of genes trans-regulated by XTP4-expressing plasmid. Methods The expressive vector pcDNA3.1(-)-XTP4 was constructed by routine molecular biological methods, and suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) method was employed to detect the mRNA differentially expressed by the HepG2 cells transfected with pcDNA3.1(-)-XTP4 and pcDNA3.1(-), respectively, using lipofectamine. The twice enriched PCR products were subcloned into T/A vectors to set up the subtractive library. Amplification of the library was carried out in E. coli strain JM109. The screened cDNA were sequenced and analyzed in GenBank with Blast search after PCR. Results The amplified subtractive library containd 21 positive clones. Colony PCR analysis showed that there were 16 clones containing 200-1000bp inserts. Sequence analysis was performed and 9 kinds of encoding sequences were achieved. These genes trans-regulated by XTP4 protein involved in hepatic fibrogenesis, tumorgenesis, mitochondrial function, and cell growth regulation. Conclusions The findings obtained by SSH provide significant data for a preliminary understanding of the biological function of a new identified gene-XTP4. These results will pave the way for the study of the molecular mechanism of the transactivating effects of HBxAg and the development of new therapy for chronic hepatitis B.

Objective To compare the accuracy of quantitative CT(QCT), perfusion scintigraphy and anatomical segmentation in predicting postoperative lung function in lung cancer patients. Methods Pulmonary functional tests, quantitative CT scan and perfusion seintigraphy in 12 cases before operation were performed. Forced vital capacity (FVC), the first second forced expiratory volume (FEV1.0) and diffusing capacity of carbon monoxide (DLco) were obtained from preoperative pulmonary functional tests. According to the corresponding formula for QCT, perfusion sintigraphy and anatomical segmentation method, the values of FVC, FEV1.0 and DLco were predicted. The correlation between the predicted values and postoperative values of FVC, FEV1.0 and DLco were assessed. The paired-t test,Pearson correlation test and Bland-Altman analysis were used for the statistics. Results The predicted values of QCT, perfusion sintigraphy and anatomical segmentation method were: FVC [(3.05±0.82), (2.98±0.75) and (2.98±0.86) L,respectively] , FEV1.0[(2.20±0.81), (2.17±0.78) and (2.16±0.84) L, respectively], DLco (FVC: r=0.87, 0.80 and 0.86; FEV1.0:r =0.93, 0.91 and 0.93; DLco:r =0.93, 0.95 and 0.93,respectively,P < 0.01). Conclusion QCT, perfusion sintigraphy and anatomical segmentation method can be used in predicting postoperative lung function. The predicted values are in concordance with the postoperative ones.

One of the strain of bivalent HFRS vaccine, Z37 strain was isolated from Rattus norvegicus and identified as SEO virus by serological test. The M segment cDNA of Hantavirus Z37 strain was obtained by reverse transcripti on and polymerase chain reaction, subsequently cloned into pGEM-T vector. The s equence of positive recombinants was determined by the method of dideoxy chain t ermination, which revealed that the M genomic segment is 3651 nucleotide in len gth with a predicated long open reading frame encoding a protein of 1133 amino acids. Comparison with HNT type (76-118, A9, HV-114 strains) indicated that th ere were 71.8%~72.1% homology at the nucleotide level, 76.2~76.7% homology at the amino acid level. Comparison with SEO type (R22,L99,80-39 strains) showed 95.3~96.1 homology at the nucleotide level, 95.3~99.2% homology at the amino acid level. The results of nucleotide and amino acid comparison indicated that Z 37 strain is SEO viruses in molecular level.

Objective To evaluate the changes and clinical s ignificances of serum growth hormore (GH) and GH binding protein (GHBP) in patie nts with obstructive jaundice (OJ). Methods Serum levels of GH, GHBP, insulin-like growth factor-Ⅰ (IGF-Ⅰ), endotoxin, prealbumin concentr ation and liver function in 60 male in patients with OJ were detected 1 d preope ratively and 1, 3, 7 d postoperatively. And 40 male patients with simple gallbla dder stone hospitalized in the same period were served as control. Resu lts The levels of GH, GHBP and IGF-Ⅰ were significantly lower in pati ents with obstructive jaundice than in control group(P<0.01), which was corr elated with the levels of bilirubin, endotoxin and prealbumin (P<0.01). Conclusion The obviously downregulation of GH/GHBP axis in patients with OJ probably results from the inbibition of expression of GH receptor due t o nutritional dysfunction and endotoxemia, and further aggravate the nutritional dysfuction and endoxemia, which may be one of the important factors in the path ophysiological changes of OJ.

Journal of Integrative Medicine 2010;8(4):312-20
Background: Xiaochaihu Tang was a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine recorded in ancient Chinese medical book Shanghanlun, and has been widely used for chronic liver diseases especially in Japan. Objective: To assess the beneficial effects and safety of Xiaochaihu Tang, for chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Search strategy: Electronic and manual searches were conducted and the search ended in November 2009. Inclusion criteria: We included randomized clinical trials testing Xiaochaihu Tang against placebo, non-specific treatment, antivirals, or combined with antivirals against antivirals alone. Data extraction and analysis: Selection of trials for inclusion, assessment of methodological quality by Jadad score, data extraction and data syntheses were conducted according to the Cochrane Hepato-Biliary Group methods. Results: Sixteen randomized trials (involving 1 601 CHB patients) with various methodological quality were included. One trial published in English had good quality, while other trials published in Chinese were of poor quality. The pooled results showed that Xiaochaihu Tang combined with antiviral drugs was more effective in serum loss of hepatitis B viral markers and in improving liver function compared with antiviral drugs alone. Xiaochaihu Tang was not different from placebo in terms of viral clearance or improving liver function. However, Xiaochaihu Tang was superior to non-specific treatment in liver function improvement. There were no adverse effects reported in the trials regarding Xiaochaihu Tang, but adverse effects were reported in patients treated by interferon, and severe adverse effects occurred in few cases. Conclusion: Xiaochaihu Tang in this review appears to be effective in improving liver function and clearance of serum hepatitis B viral markers in patients with chronic hepatitis B. However, due to poor methodological quality in the majority of included trials the potential benefits need to be confirmed in rigorous clinical trials following international standards.
