Based on the plasma activation and the sensing ability of cataluminescence, a low temperature plasma-assisted cataluminescence sensor was developed for ethylene detection using the low-cost and abundant alkaline-earth oxides of MgO nanomaterials as the sensing materials.Taking advantage of the high activity of the plasma, the working temperature of this method was greatly decreased than that of traditional detection method (300-500℃), and the sensing of ethylene was realized at room temperature without any heating device.This ethylene cataluminescence sensor gave a linear range of 112-4997 ng/mL (90-3998 ppm, R=0.97669) with a detection limit of 37 ng/mL (30 ppm).Besides, the sensor showed good selectivity and stability in ethylene detection.Due to the absence of the heating element, the present sensor was simple, rapid, low-cost, low energy-consumption and stable for ethylene sensing.This study improved the applicability of cataluminescence sensors and might promote the development of cataluminescence sensors.

Herein, we report on a family with Carney complex. Four members of the family underwent a total of 11 open heart operations as well as 9 other operations to treat extrathoracic masses. All the family members met at least 2 major clinical criteria and 1 supplemental criterion. We analyzed their genomic loci, including the protein kinase A regulatory subunit 1 gene. The results revealed no specific mutations, except for a common single nucleotide polymorphism. This case series of Carney complex emphasizes the importance of close longitudinal follow-up because of the high rate of tumor recurrence irrespective of the site. Clinicians should not overlook the specific features of familial myxoma.

As the use computed tomographic (CT) scanning spread, the diagnosis of blowout fractures of the medial orbital wall increased. Now, the diagnosis of blowout fracture in the medial wall are not uncommon. Conventionally, the surgery of blowout fractures in medial orbital wall was performed by the various approach with external incision. The conventional method had seveal possible disadvantages, including an external scar, incomplete reduction, increased mobidity rate and general anesthesia. Recently, endoscopic reconstruction of the medial orbital wall has provided good functional and cosmetic results. We performed endoscopic transnasal reduction surgery without external incision in 12 cases of medial blowout fracture under local anesthesia. The fractured bony fragments were removed after the intranasal ethmoidectomy and the entrapped medial rectus was released. And then a sheet of silicone late or uncinate process were placed on the fracture site. For the maintain of the position of fractured wall, Merocel packing or urinary ballon catheter were used in orbital fracture site for 1-3 weeks. There were no specific complications related to this procedure. Result of the surgery in all cases were satisfactory. In this article, we discussed the surgical procedure, the benifit of the transnasal endoscopic approach, the indications for surgery, and possible comlications.

Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs) are widely used in industry and family washing as one of the non-ionic surfactants. NPEs can be degraded biologically to nonylphenol (NP), whose estrogenic effects or toxicity may do harm to the reproductive systems of male fish, amphibians and mammals. Thus it is an urgent affair to develop perfect assays, evaluate the harm of these chemicals to human beings, find the exact mechanism of action and restrict the use of NPEs.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze end-of-life care practices in lung disease patients with physician orders for life-sustaining treatment (POLSTs). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from medical records regarding the end-of-life care practices of POLST decisions for patients with lung disease hospitalized at a tertiary hospital in Seoul, South Korea. Data were collected from January 1 to June 30, 2021. Results Of 300 total patients, 198 had lung cancer (66.0%) and 102 had non-malignant lung diseases (34.0%). A POLST was written for 187 patients (62.3%), and an advance directive was written for 20 patients (6.7%). Subsequent treatments were hemodialysis in 13 patients (4.3%), surgery in 3 patients (1.0%), and cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation in 1 patient (0.3%). Among cancer patients, chemotherapy was performed in 11 patients (3.7%), targeted therapy in 11 patients (3.7%), immunotherapy in 6 patients (2.0%), and radiation therapy in 13 patients (4.3%). Depending on the type of lung disease, types of treatment differed, including hemodialysis, ventilators, bilevel positive airway pressure, high-flow nasal cannulas, nebulizers, enteral nutrition, central line, inotropic agents, and opioids. onclusion: Although the goals of hospice care are the same whether a patient has lung cancer or a nonmalignant lung disease, because the characteristics of the respective diseases differ, end-oflife care practices and hospice approaches must be considered differently.

Nail-patella syndrome is a relatively rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by dysplastic nail, hypoplastic or absent patella, and dislocation of radial head and iliac horns. In addition, renal abnormalities have been reported. The usual clinical signs of the renal involvement are asymptomatic proteinuria, microscopic hematuria, and in some cases progression to end stage renal disease. We present the case of adult with nail-patella syndrome, who developed proteinuria. Electron microscopy revealed irregular thickening of the glomerular basement membrane with areas of rarefaction, giving rise to a pathognomonic "moth-eaten" appearance.

Behcet's disease is a multisystem autoimmune disease with vasculitic features, and major vascular involvement occurs in 7.7-60% of patients. Venous lesions are more common than arterial lesions and arterial thrombotic events are relatively rare. We report a patient with Behcet's disease who developed a splenic infarct associated with splenic thrombotic arteritis. A 44-year-old man who had been diagnosed with Behcet's disease 5 years earlier presented with left flank pain lasting for 5 days. Laboratory tests revealed an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP). Computed tomography (CT) and three-dimensional CT showed a wedge-shaped splenic infarct and thrombus in the splenic artery. We treated him with low-molecular-weight heparin and prednisolone. The symptoms improved within 6 days of hospitalization, after which we stopped the heparin and added methotrexate and azathioprine. Splenic infarct should be ruled out if patients with Behcet's disease complain of new left-sided abdominal pain.
