A total of 48 cases of tuberculous lesion in the lymph nodes (43 cases), lung (3 cases) and soft tissue (2 cases), was subjected to fine needle aspiration cytology(FNAC). The age of the patients ranged from 19 to 77 year-old (average 33.6 years in age) and the male to female ratio was 1: 4. Thirty-four cases (70.8%) demonstrated distinct granulomatous reaction with or without caseation necrosis, nine cases (18.8%) showed no granulomas, but large amount of necrotic debris with numerous polymorphonuclear cells and histiocytes, and five cases (10.4%) revealed acellular material only. The overall AFB positivity in smears was 62.5%. In areas associated with granulomatous reaction and necrosis, AFB positivity was 55.8%, while it was 80.0% in cases with acellular necrotic material. There were 2 cases of parasitic infestation which could not be easily differentiated from tuberculosis based on aspiration smears only.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1982;18(2):384-390
The review of normal intravenous pyelography can give us important criteria of the diseases of the urinary system and the adjacent organs. Authors analyzed 200 cases of intravenous pyelography of normal Korean adults and measured the following points; the length of kidneys, the distance from midline to both poles, the slope degree of longitudinal axis, the ureteral length and width, the shortest distance from midline to abdominal ureters, the longest distance form midline to pelvic ureters, and configuration of urinary bladder. The results were obtained as follows; 1. The average length of kidneys in adult male was 12.53±0.78 cm on right, 12.83±0.82cm on left; in adult female, 12.08±0.72cm on right, 12.46±0.73cm on left. In the age distribution, the length gradually became shorter by getting old. In 20% of cases, right kidney was longer than left. 2. The average distance from both the renal poles to midline was longer in male compared to female. The distance from upper pole to the midline was longer in left side than right in male, but in the lower pole, there was no difference in both sexes. 3. The slope degree of the renal longitudinal axis was larger in male than in female, and lager in right kidney compared to left. 4. The length of ureter was longer on left, but there was no remarkable difference between both sexes. 5.The short set distance from midline to abdominal ureter, there was no remarkable difference between both sexes and also between right and left side. But concerning the longest distance from midline to pelvic ureter, it was longer in female; and especially in female, right side was shorter than left. 6. The longitudinal diameter of urinary bladder was longer in male, but horizontal diameter was longer in female.

An epigastric hernia is a protrusion of the extra-peritoneal fat to the linea alba, between the xiphoid process and the umbilicus. About 3~5% of people develop epigastric hernias. The authors have experienced a case of a 79 year-old woman who had an asymptomatic epigastric hernia, where an abdomen CT is helpful in its diagnosis. The size of the defect was large, and a hernia sac existed. The case of an epigastric hernia, which was treated by a primary repair, is reported, with a brief review of the literature.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of various methods of dentin bonding agent application on microtensile bond strength between dentin and resin, using a 2-step etch-and-rinse dentin bonding agent. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty freshly extracted human molars were obtained and divided into 4 groups of 5 teeth. 2-step etch-and-rinse dentin bonding agent was used for all groups. The control specimens were prepared using a direct immediate bonding technique. The delayed dentin sealing (A, C) specimens were prepared using an indirect approach with delayed dentin sealing. For group A, resin was built-up on uncured dentin bonding agent, and for group C, resin was built-up on pre-cured dentin bonding agent. Preparation of the immediate dentin sealing (B) specimens also used an indirect approach with immediate dentin sealing immediately following preparation. All teeth were prepared for a microtensile bond strength test. Specimens were stored in water for 24 hours. Ten beams (1.0 x 1.0 x 11 mm) from each tooth were selected for testing. Bond strength data (MPa) were analyzed with a one-way ANOVA test, and post hoc comparison was done using the Scheffe's test. RESULTS: The mean microtensile bond strengths of control group, B and C (DDS with pre-cure) were not statisticaaly different from each other at 32.7, 33.3, 34.2 MPa. the bond strength for group A (DDS without pre-cure), 19.5 MPa, was statistically different (P < .01) from the other 3 groups. CONCLUSION: When preparing teeth for indirect bonded restorations, DDS with pre-curing dentin bonding agent and IDS results in the same bond strength between dentin and resin. On the contrast, the bond strength was decreased when DDS without pre-curing dentin bonding agent was used.

In order to provide the basic data about the hip joint arthroplasty, we measured the femoral head diameter, offset and position in normal 150 males and 150 females using a standardized roentgenographic technique that provided views perpendicular to the plane of the femoral neck in which the focus centered on the lesser trochanter of the femur. We obtained 11.4% of magnification rate by comparing the real size of femoral marker with radiologic size. The result of this study are as following: The mean femoral head diameter was 46.4 ±4.1mm in male and 45.1±3.8mm in female. The mean femoral head offset was 39.2±4.8mm in male and 37.8±4.6mm in female. The mean femoral head position was 48.9±3.2mm in male and 47.6±3.6mm in female.

An intussusception was first reported by Barbette in 1674, but an intussusception of the appendix was first reported in London, in 1858. Of all intussusceptions, 5% occur in adults, and of these 90% are as a result of a primary cause. Therefore, treatment is usually based on the primary cause. An intussusception of the appendix can be treated by barium or air reduction, or by an appendectomy, with manual reduction in pediatrics, but these are very uncommon in adult, and can be treated by various methods, according to the underlying cause. A 74 years old woman was preoperatively diagnosed, by radiological examination, to have an intussusception of the appendix. An exploratory laparotomy was performed, and the lesion confirmed as an intussusception caused by an appendix mass, which was cystic and filled with mucin. Therefore, a right hemicolectomy was performed, with the pathological results confirming a mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix. Here, we report a case of an adult intussusception of the appendix in a 74 years old woman.

Korean Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2002;45(6):1033-1039
OBJECTIVE: We evaluated the relationship between the expression of Ki-67 and thymidine-phosphorylase (TP) according to the cancerous progression of uterine cervical cancer with immunohistochemical method. METHODS: The material was obtained from hysterectomized uterus and punched cervical specimen for two years from 1998 to 1999 at the Soonchunhyang Chunan hospital. The material included 15 normal epithelium, 13 CIN I/II, 21 CIN III, 15 microinvasive carcinoma and 13 invasive carcinoma. Monoclonal antibodies of Ki-67 and TP were used for immunohistochemical determination of cellular proliferation and angiogenic activity. RESULTS: 1. The positive rate of thymidine phosphorylase in each group of normal epithelium, CIN I/II, CIN III, microinvasive carcinoma and invasive carcinoma were 6.7%, 23.1%, 38.0%, 73.3%, 84.6% respectively. 2. The labeling indexes of Ki-67 in each group of normal epithelium. CIN I/II, CIN III, microinvasive carcinoma and invasive carcinoma were 2.0+/-0.7, 26+/-5.4, 41.2+/-10.1, 74.7+/-9.3 respectively. 3. There was statistically significant relationship between TP and Ki-67 expression. CONCLUSION: The above results indicates that the angiogenic activities and cellular proliferation indices increase according to the invasiveness of cervical cancer. We were able to reveal the expression of TP and Ki-67 and their relationship in cervical carcinoma.
