Twenty-six cases of Colles fracture were treated with closed reduction and percutaneous K-wire fixation under C-arm field and then wrist was immobilized by sugar tong splint and then short arm splint from Jan. 1982 to Dec. 1985 at the department of orthopaedic surgery of St. Benedict hospital. A prospective study was made and evaluated under the subjective and objective criteria of Gartland and Werley, and the objective criteria of Scheck. The result of this study were as follow: 1. The incidence of Colles fracture was highest in 3rd decade(26.9%) and 7th decade(23.1%) respectively. In the 3rd decade the reason for the highest incidence was the job-related accident during the productive age and they were male patients. 2. The main cause of the injury was falling accident comprising of 53.8% and the male to female ratio was about equal. 3. Among the 26 cases treated with the percutaneous K-wire fixation, the result was satisfactory in 92.2% but was unsatisfactory in one case with severe comminuted fracture. 4. The percutaneous K-wire fixation for Colles fracture had less complication and more advantages such as the early disappearance of edema by early exercies, the early returning of range of motion of joint to normal, and the comfortable cast immobilization in neutral position of wrist. 5. The percutaneous K-wire fixation for Colles fracture was applicable to the concept that the anatomical reduction and maintenance would lead to the improvement of the joint function. 6. The percutaneous K-wire fixation for Colles fracture was indicated when neurologic sign developed after reduction of fracture by classic methord and when the exercise of joint was required in the old age. 7. When the articular surface of the radius was severely comminuted and the distal radius became severely osteoporotic, the result from the use of percutaneous K-wire fixation was also poor. In this case we considered the use of an external fixator.

Tumors involving the proximal humerus confront the surgeon with the problem of both eradicating the osseous lesions and restoring shoulder joint function. This problem is magnified because of the biomechanical complexity of the shoulder, its anatomic configuration, and its inherent lack of stabillity. With the increased interest in limb-sparing resection for lesions in the area, efforts are being made to improve the reconstructive techniques. These include leaving a flail shoulder, an being made to improve the reconstructive techniques. These include leaving a flail shoulder, an arthrodesis using intercalery graft between the scapula and the remaining humerus, or if the glenoid is preserved, an arthroplasy. From January 1984 to December 1993, 23 patients with a malignant or locally aggressive bone tumor in the proximal humerus were treated by limb-sparing surgery in Seoul National University Hospital. Histologic diagnosis included osteosarcoma(6), chondrosarcoma(2), Ewing's sarcoma(1), metastatic bone tumor(11), and recurred giant cell tumor(3). Options for reconstruction following limb-sparing resection in our cases were 10 prosthetic arthroplasties, 3 arthrodeses with an living fibula graft, and 10 arthroplasties with intramedullary nailing and cementization. We performed a retrospective analysis in view of tumor eradication and performance status with modified functional evaluation system of Musculoskeletal tumor Society. In 7 cases(74%), good or fair performance status was acquired with average 3.6 years follow-up(6 months-11 years). Each option for reconstruction resulted in relatively good outcome but rather better result was acquired in giant cell tumor and chondrosarcoma. Estimated survival rates by Kaplan-Meier's method, 5 year survival rate was 81% in primary malignant bone tumors(12), 76% in stage Ⅱ B malignancies(5) with 4 years and 4 months follow-up. There was no regional recurrence in primary malignant bone tumors but there were three cases in which distant pulmonary metastases were found in follow-up. Complicationss were one soft tissue infection, two nonunions in arthrodesis with a living fibula graft and one dislodgement of prosthesis in prosthetic arthroplasty. In summary, each option for limb-sparing surgery in malignant bone tumor of proximal humerus might result in rather satisfactory outcome in performance and survival rate when effective preoperative and postoperative chemotherapy were performed in adequately selected cases.

The anthors studied the 152 cases of primary bone tumors statistically during the period of 7 years and 4 months from Janusry, 1980 to April, 1987 at the department of orthopaedic surgery, St. Benedict Hospital, Pusan and the department of anatomic pathology, Pusan National University Hospital. The results of the study were summsrized as follows; l. Of the 152 cases of primary bone tumors, benign tumors were 128 cases(84.2%) and malignant tumors were 24 cases(15.8%). 2. Of benign bone tumors, the most common type was osteochondroms(34 cases, 26.6%), followed by fibrous dysplasia(25 cases, 19.5%), giant cell tumor(14 cases, 10.9%) and enchondroma(11 cases, 8.6%). 3. Of malignant bone tumors, the most common type was osteosarcoma(14 cases, 58.3%), followed by chondrosarcoma(5 cases, 20.8%), Ewing's sarcoma(3 cases, 12.5%) and myeloma(1 case, 4.2%). 4. Age distribution of benign bone tumors showed that most cases(76.4%) occured under 30-years old. Among malignant bone tumors, most of osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma occured between 10-and 20-yesrs old. 5. The male to female ratio of overall benign bone tumors was 1.1: 1, and that of maligant bone tumors was 1.2: 1. There was no sexual difference. 6. The favorite sites of benign bone tumors were femur(31 cases, 23.1%), maxilla or mandible(31 cases, 23.1%), tibia(22 cases, 16.4%) and rib(11 cases, 8.2%) and those of malignant bone tumors were freguently femur(12 cases, 50.0%), followed by tibia(5 cases, 20.8 %) and pelvis(4 cases, 16.7%). 7. The most frequent manifestations in benign bone tumors were mass or swelling(62.7%), followed by pain or tenderness(33.9%) and disturbed motion or function(10.2%), but those were mostly pain or tenderness(73.9%), followed by mass or swelling(52.2%) and pathologic fracture(13.0%) in malignsnt bone tumors.8. The duration of symptoms in benign bone tumors was less than 6 months in 39.1% and less than 1 year in 44.6%, but less than 6 months in 70.9% and less than 1 year in 87.6% in malignant bone tumors. The duration of symptoms in malignant bone tumors was much shorted than that of benign bone tumors.

From January 1982 to December 1991, we experienced 96 hands of 66 patients with Dupuytren's disease in Seoul National University Hospital. We performed retrospective analysis of these 96 hands of 66 patients and the results were as follows. Among 66 patients, 60 patients (91%) were male and 51 patients (77%) were in sixth or seventh decade, the average age 58.1 years. Occupations of 66 patients were manual laborer(18 patients, 28%), farmer(15 patients, 22%), sportsman(4 patients, 6%) and deskworker(29 patients, 44%). Among the diseases such as diabetes mellitus, alcoholics, epilepsy known as associated with Dupuytren's disease, diabetes mellitus was more common in our cases, whereas alcoholics and epilepsy were relatively rare. There was no case in which family history was present. Both hands were involved in 30 patients, right hand only in 30 patients, and left hand only in 6 patients. Right hand was involved in 60 patients(91%), whereas left hand was involved in 36 patients(55%). The case in which only the 4th finger was involved was most common(42 hands, 44%). The 4th finger was affected most frequently(81 hands, 84%). In diabetic patients, the middle finger was involved more frequently than in non-diabetic patients(p < 0.05). Most of patients(83 hands, 86%) had symptoms of flexion contracture, nodule or contracted cord simultaneously. Surgical treatment was per- formed in 32 hands of 22 patients, with the results of excellent in 24 hands(75%), good in 6 hands(19%) and no recurrence, in average follow-up 3.6 years(2.6 years to 5.0 years). In conclusion, it might be thought that Dupuytren's disease in which surgical treatment was required was relatively rare in Korean and even if necessary, partial fasciectomy resulted in rather good result.

The purposes of this study are to evaluate the Korean mandibular dental arch and classify the mandibular dental arch shape and size based on the incisal angle, canine angle, inter second molar width and height. In this study the mandibular study models were fabricated using irreversible hydrocolloid impression material from 225 volunteers with a mean age 23.62(range 19-29). And the study models were measured with 3-dimensional measuring device and the mandibular dental arch was classified by means of K-means clustering method and visual inspection, then obtained data were analyzed with t-test for the statistical analysis. The results were as follows ; 1. The average canine height was 5.19mm(s.d. 1.17) in both sex, 5.34mm in male, and 4.95mm in female. Pearly penile papules are small, smooth, dome-shaped, grayish to skin-colored papules, that are arranged in one or several rows. These are commonly located circumferentially on the corona and sulcus of the glans penis. A 36-year-old male patient had had asymptomatic numerous pearly smooth 1 * 1mm -sized dome-shaped papules for several months. A Histopathological examination revealed an increased number of fibroblasts on the papillary dermis, vascular proliferation and a mild lymphocytic infiltration. We diagnosed the condition as pearly penile papules. No treatment other than reassurance was given. We report, herein, a case of pearly penile papules.
