Histologic reactions of bone and soft tissue to CFRE were explored, and biomechanical properties of both CFRE plate and stainless steel plate were tested and compared. Six achilles tendons of albino rabbits were replaced with CFRE implant after artificial rupture and serial histologic examination of neotendon and histologic response in vivo were done during 8 weeks. Proximal tibia of twelve albino rabbit was selected, subjected the tibia a single osteotomy and internal fixation with CFRE plate in six cases, and stainless steel plate in the others. And then, consequent radiographic and histologic change was observed during 8 weeks. Objectives in this paper is to provide basic data of CFRE in its biomechanical and biologic response in vivo. The results were as follows :1. Foreign body reaction and fibroblast were decreased at 7-8 weeks after operation. Early formation of collagen, which is similar to that found in the normal side, was shown. So, CFRE seems to be ideal material in the aspect of tissue tolerance among biocomaptibility factors. 2. In biomechanical test, CFRE plate is lower than stainless steel plate in flexural strength and flexural modulus. This means that CFRE plate is semirigid in nature. 3. While external callus formation is marked after fixation of CFRE, internal callus for mation is marked after fixation of stainless steel plate. In CFRE plated tibia, the resorption-cavity is much smaller than stainless steel plated, and there is some formation of woven bone beneath the plate. In conclusion, CFRE is ideal material in the aspect of its biomechanical compatibility and tissue tolerance. Further efforts on production and varying design of CFRE make it to use widely in clinical application, Such as internal fixator of fracture and temporary replacement of tendon or ligament.

During the period from 1964 to 1958, chemical analyses of urinary calculi were performed on 88 cases treated in the Department of Urology, Seoul National University Hospital. The chemical composition of the calculi analysed is recorded in the following table. Lerderkyn, a recently introduced sulfonamide, has been administrated to 11 cases in doses ranging from 1 to 3 gm daily. The compound is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and therapeutically effective plasma concentration is maintained rapidly and for many hours, following the oral administration. The diffusion of Ledrkyn into the tissue and the body fluid occurs readily and is slowly excreted through the kidney. Maintenance of effective concentration in urine for many hours results in successful treatment especially for genito-urinary tract infection. In this study, five acute gonococcal urethritis, one non-gonococcal urethritis, two acute cystitis, three chronic prostatitis have been treated with this drug in doses of 1 to 3 gm daily and very satisfactory results obtained in acute bacterial infection.

We studied to establish criteria for the diameters of normal extraocular muscles, the width of the optic nerve, and the globe position by CT, and to investigate the effects of age and sex on these structures among Korean populations. Diameters of extraocular muscles, distance from the interzygomatic line to the posterior margin of the globe, width of the optic nervesheath complex, and length of the interzygomatic line were calculated for 428 normal orbit on axial and direct coronal CT images. Normal range for the diameters of extraocular muscles were medial rectus : 2.2~5.4 mm, lateral rectus: 2.1~4.9 mm, inferior rectus: 2.5~5.7 mm, and superior complex group : 2.6~6.4 mm. The mean optic nerve-sheath complex was 4.1 mm ranged from 2.9 mm to 5.3 mm, and the mean length of interzygomatic line was 103.8 mm. The normal position of the globe was 11.2 mm behind the interzygomatic line(range, 6.4~15.3 mm). The mean diameters of extraocular muscles, sum of all muscle, optic nerve-sheath complex, globe position, and the mean length of interzygomatic line were larger in males than females. However, there was no significant difference between male and female patients except interzygomatic line, and there was also no difference among the various age groups(P>0.05). Our results may help to assess enlargement of the extraocular muscles and the optic nerve as well as determining whether exophthalmos is present in a practical quantitative method.

The clinical observation were performed 66 cases of reoperation in department of Urology. Catholic Medical College during the period from August. 1968 to July, 1977. The result were as follows: 1. Of the total patients underwent reoperation were 66 cases (3.4%), which were operated previously from our department (36 cases) and another hospital(30 cases), respectively. 2. In organ distribution, the ureter were 22 cases(31. 9%), urethra 17 cases(24.7%) Kidney 10 cases (14.5%), bladder 10 cases(14.5%). 3. The title of reoperations consist of urethroplasty 15 cases(31. 3%), fistulectomy 13 cases(20. 3%), nephrectomy 7 cases(11. 1%), cutaneoureterostomy 6 cases(9. 4%), ureteral reimplantation 5 cases(7. 8%).
