1.Osteogenetic ability of calcium sulfate applied in rabbit lumbar spinal fusion model

[Objective]To investigate the osteogenetic ability of calcium sulfate applied alone by comparing with that of autograft harvested from ilium crest and discuss the possible osteogenetic mechanism.[Method]A rabbit lumbar posterolateral spinal fusion model was established.The left zygapophyseal joint was implanted with calcium sulfate tablet,and the right with iliac crest bone graft.Radiographic analysis and decalcified histological evaluation were performed.[Result]At 3 weeks,residual calcium sulfate tablet could not be noted by X-ray and CT scan,while autograft can't be seen,histological assessment revealed the degeneration velocity of calcium sulfate was slower than that of autograft.Ingrowth of blood vessel tissue and osteo-blast could be seen in both sides.At 6 weeks,there were no difference between both sides,histological assessment revealed cartilage formation in both sides.At 12 weeks,there was no difference by radiographic and histological assessment between both sides,proliferative bone formation was similar with lumbar body.[Conclusion]Calcium sulfate plays the similar role to iliac crest bone graft when used alone in promoting spinal fusion in rabbit model.Calcium sulfate has good osteo-conductivity,perhaps has osteo-inductivity,so is a good bone graft substitute.
2.Studies of treatment in degenerative lumbar and lower extremity joints disease

Objective To investiga te the relationship,diagnosis and thera peutic meth ods of degener-ative diseas es of lumbar and lower extremity joints in middle and aged patients.Methods Fr omNovember1997to May2002,50patients suffering from lum bar and hip or knee degenerative diseases concur rently were reviewed.In this group,there w ere14males and36females,ag ing from45to76years old(with an average of 60.5years).In lumbar degenerative disease,13cases were diagnosed as spi nal stenosis of lumbar,and12cases were diagnosed as spinal stenosis of lumb ar accompanied by degenerative spondylolisthesis,25cases spinal stenosis of lumbar accompanied by degenerative scoliosis.While in the degenerative diseases of joints,ostoarthritis was involved in58knee joints of 40cases,10hip joints of 6cases,and both6knee and5hip joints of 4cases.Results Allof the patients were operated upon;anterior lumbar decompression,bone grafting and Z-plate fixation to L1in5cases,posterior decompression and pedicle screws f ixation for insta-bility of spine in45cases.Of 50patients,11cases(1 4joints)underwent arthroscopy or joint replacement prior to lumbar operat ion,with an average interval period of 9.7months(1.5to29months);3ca ses(3knees)underwent joint replacements after lumbar operation,with an ave rage duration of 17.3months(4to36months);3cases(3hip joints)had hi p joint replacement simultaneously with lumbar operation in one setting.For the other33cases no articular operation was performed,and12cases had relief of the symptoms of osteoarthitis after lumbar opera tion;21cases were tre ated with conservative therapy for degenerative dis-eases of joint and allev iated the conditions satis factorily.The average follow-up period was14.2m onths(3to45months).Compared to pre-operation,the average HSS,Harris sco re of joint and JOA score of lumbar were improved by48.2,42.5and14 .3respectively.Conclusion In middle and aged patients with both lumbar and jo int degenerative dis eases,it is very important to make definite diagnosis an d distinguish symp-toms caused by lumbar or joint disease.The major diseas e portions should be treated firstly;if necessary,both joint and lumbar opera tion could be carried out in one surgical setting.
3.Regulatory effects of endogeous sulfur dioxide on interleukins in rats with acute lung injury during sepsis

Objective The present study was undertaken to examine the regulatory effect of endogeous sulfur dioxide (SO2) on interleukins in rats with acute lung injury (ALI) induced by sepsis.Methods Twenty Two male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly (random number) divided into sham group (Control group),sham + SO2 donor (Na2SO3/NaHSO3,0.54 mmol/kg:0.18 mmol/kg) group (SO2 group),sepsis induced ALI group (sepsis group) and sepsis induced ALI with sulfur dioxide pretreatment group (sepsis + SO2 group).Index of quantitative assessment of histological lung injury (IQA),wet/dry weight ratio (W/D) and the level of SO2 in plasma were measured.IL 6,IL 8,IL 10,MCP-1 and TNF-α were measured by ELISA.Results The IQA score and W/D ratio of lung tissues significantly increased in sepsis rats compared with control group (all P < 0.01),but significantly decreased in sulfur dioxide pretreatment rats compared with in sepsis rats (all P <0.01).The level of SO2 in plasma decreased in sepsis rats (3.17 ± 3.44) μmol/L compared with control group (5.87 ± 1.96) μmol/L,but significantly increased in sulfur dioxide pretreatment rats (9.78 ± 3.26) μmol/L compared with in sepsis rats (P <0.01).The level of IL 6,IL 8,IL 10,MCP-1 and TNF-α significantly increased in sepsis rats [(87.08 ± 22.03) pg/mg,(79.82 ± 19.69) pg/mg,(66.38 ± 21.77) pg/mg,(157.58 ± 42.36) pg/mg and (65.04 ± 19.42) pg/mg,respectively] compared with control group [(47.41±9.64) pg/mg,(42.25±8.16) pg/mg,(31.96±4.63) pg/mg,(67.65±10.18) pg/mg and (33.83 ± 5.75) pg/mg] (all P < 0.01).but the level of IL 6,IL 8,IL 10 significantly decreased in sulfur dioxide pretreatment rats [(66.01 ± 16.52) pg/mg,(61.52 ± 18.32) pg/mg and (45.61 ± 16.47) pg/mg,respectively] compared with sepsis group (all P < 0.05).The level of MCP-1 significantly decreased in sulfur dioxide pretreatment rats (117.86 ± 34.20) pg/mgcompared with sepsis group (all P <0.01).The level of TNF-α decreased in sulfur dioxide pretreatment rats (61.49 ± 15.33 pg/mg) compared with sepsis group.Conclusions These results suggested that exogenous SO2 could inhibit the pulmonary tissue inflammatory response by inhibiting MCP-1 and TNF-α in rats with sepsis induced ALI.
4.Effect of Minimally Invasive Operation on Early Endometrial Carcinoma and Level of Patients' Satisfaction

Objective To study laparoscopic pelvic lymphyectomy combined with vaginal hystectomy in the treatment of patients with stage Ⅰ endometrial carcinoma.Methods The data of 77 patients with stage Ⅰ endometrial carcinoma were reviewed retrospectively. These patients divided into the laparoscopic group and abdominal group according to the operation style. The operation time, blood loss, postoperation complication, rehabilition of the digestion tract, satisfaction degree to the operation of two groups were compared.Results There was no serious complications in the both groups. In the laparoscopic group, the operation time was longer than the abdominal group ( P<0.01), but so far as to the blood loss, the time of rehabilition of the digestion tract, the number of lymphyectomy, the postoperation pain alleviation and the degree of postoperation depression were superior to the abdominal group ( P<0.01).Conclusion Though the Laparoscopic operation takes longer time than the abdominal operation, it has much more advantage: mimimal blood loss, minimal abdominal scar, rapid postoperation rehabilition, much better pain alleviate, less urine retention.
5.Association Study Between the rs4373814 Polymorphisms of Calcium Channel Gene and the Susceptibility of Essential Hypertension in Han Population at Northeastern Area of China

Objective: To investigate the relationship between rs4373814 polymorphisms of calcium channel (CACNB2) gene and the susceptibility of essential hypertension (EH) occurrence in Han population at northeastern area of China. Methods: A case-control study in Han population at northeastern of China was carried out and the research included 1998 participants as 2 groups: EH group,n=1006 patients treated in our hospital, and Control group,n=992 subjects with normal blood pressure from physical examination. The rs4373814 polymorphisms were examined by Snapshot technique and the statistical analysis was performed by SPSS 19.0 software. Results: The rs4373814 risk allele C frequency of CACNB2 gene was signiifcantly different between EH group and Control group,P=0.039, OR=1.068, 95% CI (1.004-1.137). Logistic regression analysis showed that with adjusted gender, age, BMI, smoking, drinking, in dominant model, the genotype rs4373814 carring CC + GC/GG obviously increased the risk of EH occurrence,P=0.037, OR=1.260, 95% CI (1.013-1.567). Conclusion: The rs4373814 polymorphisms of CACNB2 gene are related to the susceptibility of EH occurrence in Han population at northeastern area of China.
6.Effect of Lycium ruthenicum anthocyanins on atherosclerosis in mice.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of Lycium ruthenicum anthocyanins on atherosclerosis (AS) in mice.
METHODNormal mice were taken as the control group, and hyperlipemia mice were divided into the model group, Lycium ruthenicum anthocyanins low, medium and high dose groups, and the simvastatin drug control group. After the oral administration, blood lipid indicators were detected by enzymatic analysis. The histomorphological changes in aortas, hearts and livers were observed, and liver-related indicators were determined by using hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining.
RESULTCompared with the high-fat group, L. ruthenicum anthocyanins low, medium and high dose groups showed significant decrease in total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and atherosclerotic index (AI) (P < 0.05). However, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level showed a trend of higher than the model group. Liver's total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), Glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), lipoprotein lipase (LPL) were significantly increased (P < 0.05), malondialdehyde (MDA) was markedly decreased (P < 0.01); the percentage of aortic plaque area of each anthocyanins dose group in the total area was significantly lower than the model group (P < 0.05); severity of aorta, heart and liver were significantly lighter than the high-fat group. But the media dose group was similar with the simvastatin group.
CONCLUSIONL. ruthenicum anthocyanins can interfere the formation of AS, while lowering blood lipid levels in mice.
