Objective To study the influences of endogenous testosterone on vascular endothelial cell function and structure in rabbits of balloon injury. Methods Twenty male rabbits were randomly divided into two groups: castrated group and control group. The former group animals were castrated and the later group animals received sham operation. All animals were performed with deendothelializing balloon injury in the right iliac artery. Nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) were measured at different intervals during the experiment. After 2 weaks of endothelial denudation all animals were killed, and endothelin structure and morphological changes were observed with electron microscope and HE staining. Results There weren′t siginificant differences of plasma NO and ET-1 levels between the two groups, but plasma NO and ET-1 levels of the castrated group 2 weaks after endothelial denudation recovered to the levels before castration, while they didn′t in the control group. The extent of reendothelialization and intimal area of the harvested segments were similar between the two groups. Conclusion The decrease of endogenous testosterone level did not affect endothelial cell structure, but tended to protect function of injured endothelium.

Objective To investigate the expression of complement regulatory proteins on placentas of pregnant C57BL/6 mice infected with Toxoplasma gondii in order to explore the molecular immunological mechanism for abnormal pregnancy induced by T. gondii infection. Methods Twenty-four pregnant C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into two groups equally. The infection group was intraperitoneally injected with 200 of living T, gondii RH strain tachyzoites on the 8th day of gestation, and the normal group of mice was injected with physiological saline. All mice were killed on day 14 after gestation and placentas were collected. The expression levels of Crry, GPI-DAF and CD59a mRNA were analyzed by real-time quantitative PCR, and the positive rates of Crry and GPI-DAF were measured with flow cytometry. Results The died fetus rates of infected group and control were 80. 95% and 4. 41% , respectively. The infected group was significantly higher than of that the control group (P<0.01). The expression levels of Crry, GPT-DAF and CD59a mRNA in the infected and control group were 0.786 ±0. 199, 0.594 ±0.096, 0.880 ±0. 179 and 0.550 ±0.077, 0.221 ±0.074, 0.591 ± 0.075 , respectively, and the difference of three kind of complement regulation proteins between two groups was all significant (P<0.01). The positive percentages of Crry and GPI-DAF cells of infected and control group were (10. 03 ± 2. 11) % , (2.95 ±1.04)% and (3. 15 ± 1. 32) % , (0. 66 ±0. 26) % , respectively, and the difference of the two kind complement regulation proteins between two groups was also significant ( P < 0. 01). Conclusion The expression level of mouse placental complement regulatory proteins was increased after infection with T. gondii, and then immunological microenvironment at the fetomaternal interface was destroyed. It may be one of important immunological mechanism for abnormal pregnancy induced by T. gondii infection.

We investigated the baseline brain activity level in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) by am plitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) based on resting-state functional MRI (fMRI). We examined 13 patients in the MDD group and 14 healthy volunteers in the control group by resting-state fMRI on GE Signa 3.0T. We calculated and compared the ALFF values of the two groups. In the MDD group, ALFF values in the right medial prefrontal were higher than those in control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.001). ALFF values in the left parietal in the MDD group were lower than those in control group with statistically significant differences (P < 0.001). This resting-state fMRI study suggested that the alteration brain activity in the right medial prefrontal and left parietal ALFF contributed to the understanding of the pathophysiological mechanism of MDD patients.

Clinical Medicine of China 2010;26(3):300-302
Objective To assess the prediction value of technetium-99m methoxyisobutylisonitrile(~(99)Tc~m-MIBI) for the effect of chemotherapy in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. Methods Fifty-three patients with SCLC were divided into two groups according to the chest computed tomography (CT) examination, 39 patients in group A with complete or partial remission, and 14 patients in groups B with stable or progressive status. ~(99)Tc~m-MIBI was performed before chemotherapy. Following i. v. administration of 740 MBq ~(99)Tc~m-MIBI, SPECT imagings at 10 -30 minutes (early) and 2 -3 hours (delayed) were performed to obtain the uptake ratio of early phase tumor/normal lung tissue (ER) and the uptake ratio of delayed phase tumor/normal lung tissue (DR). The retention index (RI) was calculated as (DR-ER)/ ER × 100%. The differences of ER,DR and RI between the two groups were tested through t-test and rank sum test. Results ~(99)Tc~m-MIBI uptake was significantly higher in group A than group B: 2.33(SD:0.21) vs 2.02(SD:0.31) for the early ratio (ER) (t = -3.401, P<0.05) and 2.44(SD:0.19) vs 1.86 (SD :0.30) for the delayed ratio (DR) (t = - 6.724,P < 0.05). The median of RI in group A was signifi-cantly higher than that in group B (5.31% vs -9.26%,P <0.05). Conclusions ER,DR and RI of ~(99)Tc~m-MIBI SPECT may be helpful in predicting the response to chemotherapy in patients with SCLC.
