Crystal power/epoxy resin composite was made with refined crystal power as filling material in different composition. The shearing strength and coefficient of thermal expansion of the crystal powder/epoxy resin composite was studied. The sectional morphology was observed under a scanning electron microscope. The results of the study indicate that the shearing strength of crystal powder/epoxy resin composite is improved while the coefficient of thermal expansion decreases with increase of the amount of crystal powder, and a well-proportioned three-dimensional structure is obtained. The augmentation of shearing strength exhibits no linear relationship to the amount of crystal powder, and there is an optimal amount for crystal powder filling. The coefficient of thermal expansion is decreased with increase of crystal powder filling, and three-dimensional structure optimization exhibits the' similar inflexion.

BACKGROUND: Tendon injury is common in clinic, which is mainly treated by surgical anastomosis. Postoperative tendon healing is usually assessed through surgeons' experience due to high cost and application restrictions of MRI examination. Thus there is still a lack of a convenient and objective imaging support. With the advancement and widespread application of high-frequency ultrasound, the diagnosis rate of tendon injury has been improved remarkably; thereafter, high-frequency ultrasound used for assessing tendon injury and repair has become an issuehas become an issue of concern.OBJECTIVE: To clarify the ultrasonic imaging features of tendon repair through high-frequency ultrasound scancombined with histological examination.METHODS: This was a single-central, preoperative and self-controlled animal experiment and finished in the Central People'sHospital of Siping, China. 130 adult male Highbrow chickens were selected and were then randomized into 13 groups (n=10per group). One side of each chicken hind foot was randomly selected as experimental limb to undergo achillotomy followedby repair using the modified Kessler method (groups 2-13) or no treatment (group 1); the contralateral limb served as control. Moreover, passive flexion-extension functional training targeting the experimental limbs was performed in the groups 8-13beginning at the 1st day after surgical anastomosis, several times a day. The high-frequency ultrasound and hematoxylineosinstaining were conducted before and after chillotomy (group 1), and at 3 (groups 2 and 8), 7 (groups 3 and 9), 14 (groups4 and 10), 21 (groups 5 and 11), 35 (groups 6 and 12) and 42 (groups 7 and 13) days after surgical anastomosis, respectively.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The primary measurement outcomes were the repair and healing of the injured tendonas assessed by high-frequency ultrasound; the secondary outcomes were the pathological manifestations of the injuredtendon detected by hematoxylin-eosin staining. Our findings will provide preclinical proof for high-frequency ultrasounduse in the assessment of tendon injury, repair and healing as well as for the rehabilitation therapy that promotes functionrecovery in the future.

Pancreas of 53 aborted fetuses ranging from 5 to 41 weeks were fixed in Bouin's fluid and embedded in paraffin, and the sections were stained with Alcian bluephloxine and Grimelius silver technique. The A, B and D cell of islet of Langerhans were demonstrated with immunohistochemical PAP method also. 14 pancreas among them were fixed in 2% glutaraldehyde and embedded in Epon 812, and observed with TEM. Typical A, B and D islet cells were observed with LM at 12 weeks of fetal age. Undifferentiated, differentiated and degenerated cells were distinguished in the pancreatic islets at 14 to 41 weeks of fetal age. The secretory granules of the exoerine cells were observed after 14 weeks of fetal age. The functional differentiation of endocrine cells precede that of exocrine cells. The morphometrical measurement testified that the endocrine portion of fetal pancreas was obviously larger than that of adult. This study provides some morphological data for the pancreas transplantation in clinical medicine.

Objective To clarify the inhibitory effect of low molecular weight chitosan(LMCTS)on hepatic fibrosis induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4 )in the rats, and to investigate its effect on the expression of Toll-like receptor-4(TLR4 )and to lay the foundation for the development of the clinical candidate drug of liver fibrosis. Methods 72 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into blank control group, CCl4 group (model group), glycyrrhizinate (DG)group,50,100 and 150 mg·kg-1 LMCTS groups (low, middle and high doses of LMCTS groups). In addition to blank control group, the rats in the remaining groups were given 40% CCl4-vegetable oil (1.75 mL·kg-1 ),2 times per week for 8 weeks,by intraperitoneal injection to establish the model of rat hepatic fibrosis. And the rats in blank control group were injected with the same amount of 100% vegetable oil agent. From the ninth week, the rats in DG and LMCTS groups were given DG and LMCTS by intragastric administration, 1 time/week for 4 weeks. Then all rats were sacrificed, the activities of serum glutamic acid aminotransferase (ALT),aspartate aminotransferase (AST)and alkaline phosphatase (ALP)were detected with ELISA kit;the pathological changes in liver tissue were observed under light microscope, and the TLR4 expressions were detected by RT-PCR and Western blotting method. Results The serum ALT, AST and ALP activities in middle and high doses of LMCTS groups were lower than those in model group (P<0.05).The serum ALT activity in middle dose of LMCTS group was lower than that in low dose of LMCTS group (P<0.05),but the activities of AST and ALP had no statistically significant change(P>0.05).There were statistically significant differences in the serum ALT, AST and ALP activities between high dose of LMCTS group and middle dose of LMCTS group (P<0.05).There were obvious hepatocyte steatosis, inflammatory cell infiltration, collagen fiber hyperplasia and hepatic lobule damage in the rats in model group. However, all the changes in liver tissue of the rats in LMCTS group were significantly reduced, especially in high dose group. The results of RT-PCR and Western blotting method showed that the expression of TLR4 was declined in LMCTS groups compared with model group (P<0.05,P<0.01),especially in high dose of LMCTS group, and there were statistically significant differences between different doses of LMCTS groups (P<0.05).Conclusion High dose of LMCTS can decrease the serum transaminase activity of liver fibrosis rats and improve liver function, and this process may be related to declining the expression of TLR4 .

Objective: To evaluate the correlative risk factor of culprit lesion plaque composition in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
Methods: A total of 55 ACS patients with 55 culprit vessels were divided into 2 groups:Unstable angina group, n=40 and AMI group, n=15. Coronary angiography (CAG) was conducted in all patients, the minimal lumen area and plaque burden at the minimal lumen area and the largest necrotic core were examined. Intravascular ultrasound with virtual histology (IVUS-VH) were performed to calculate the percentages of necrotic core area (NC%), dense calcium (DC%), ifbro-fatty area (FF%), ifbrous area (FI%) and to calculate the remodeling index. Plasma levels of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), oxidative low density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL) and hypersensitive c-reactive protein (hs-CRP) were also compared between 2 groups.
Results: In AMI group and UAP group, NC%at minimal lumen area were (27.90 ± 9.72)%and (19.41 ± 11.53)%, t=-2.533, P=0.014;NC%at the largest necrotic core were (39.09 ± 8.82)%and (31.99 ±1 2.35)%, t=-2.032, P=0.047;plasma levels of MMP-9 were (14.63±2.71) μg/L and (12.65±2.72) μg/L, t=-2.411, P=0.019;Ox-LDL were (196.21±25.89) μg/L and (159.57±33.39) μg/L, t=-3.832, P=0.001;hs-CRP were (1.57±1.93) mg/L and (0.31±0.33) mg/L, t=-2.514, P=0.024 respectively. Plaque composition was not related to plasma levels of MMP-9, Ox-LDL and hs-CRP. In the largest necrotic core of cruprit lesion and the minimal lumen area, MLA were (5.25±2.15) mm2 and (3.45±1.07) mm2, t=-6.348, P=0.001;NC%were (33.93±11.85)%and (21.73±11.62)%, t=-8.752, P=0.001 respectively.
Conclusion: ①Among ACS patients, AMI patients had the larger necrotic core area at cruprit lesion and higher MMP-9, Ox-LDL and hs-CRP.②There was no largest necrotic core composition at the minimal lumen area in the same cruprit lesion.③Plaque composition was not related to MMP-9, Ox-LDL and hs-CRP.
