Objective To investigate the roles of theaflavins(TFs) in airway mucus hypersecretion induced by human neutrophil elastase(HNE). Methods Human lung adenocarcinoma cell A549 was stimulated by HNE for mucus hypersecretion,and TF monomers(TF1,TF2 and TF3) were used for intervention.The effects of TF monomers on viability of A549 cells were examined by MTT method.After the effective doses of TFs were determined,A549 cells were divided into 4 groups for experiment.In control group,A549 cells were cultured with serum-free medium.In HNE treatment group,A549 cells were treated with HNE(50 nmol/L) for 24 h.In TF monomer intervention groups,A549 cells were pre-treated with TF1,TF2 or TF3(50,100 or 200 ?g/mL) for 24 h,and were then treated with HNE for another 24 h.In AG1478 intervention group,A549 cells were pre-treated with AG1478(5 ?mol/L),an epidermal growth factor receptor blocker for 30 min,and were then treated with HNE for another 24 h.The changes in mucin(MUC) after treatment by different doses of TF1,TF2 and TF3,and by TF3(200 ?g/mL) for different time(12 h,24 h and 36 h) were detected.The changes in MUC5AC mRNA expression and MUC5AC protein expression were detected by RT-PCR and ELISA,respectively. Objective To investigate CT features of pediatric mediastinal neuroblastoma.Methods The CT performance of pediatric mediastinal neuroblastoma confirmed by clinical and pathology in 17 cases were retrospectively analyzed.The tumor growth pattern,size,density,degree of enhancement,invasion to the surrounding tissues and metastatic characteristics were observed,and the results were compared with pathological analysis.Results Among the 17 cases,2 were at the right posterior upper mediastinum,3 at posterior right middle and upper mediastinum,3 at the posterior right middle and lower mediastinum,1 at the posterior right lower mediastinum,3 at the posterior left middle mediastinum,3 at the posterior left middle and lower mediastinum,1 at the posterior left lower mediastinum,and 1 at bilateral posterior middle and lower mediastinum.The average tumor size was 6.3 ×4.3 cm,ranging from 2.3 ×2.0 cm ～ 12.6 ×4.0 cm.CT plain scan showed 8 cases with clear boundary and 9 case without clear boundary.13 cases were with inhomogeneous density and 4 cases with homogeneous density.8 calcification of grainy or strip was found in the tumor.10 cases were with pleural thickening and 5 cases with pleural effusion.6 cases were with tracheal or main bronchial compression,4 with cardiac compression,7 with pulmonary artery compression,and 1 with descending aorta compression were found.6 cases were with tumors crossing the midline,5 with intervertebral foramen growth,3 wrapped around the aorta,3 with rib attack damage,2 with rib compression deformation,2 with thoracic invasion,and 1 into the upper abdomen.10 cases were with mediastinal lymph nodes enlargement,10 with bone metastasis,4 with cervical lymph nodes enlargement,1 with liver metastasis,and 1 with cerebral metastasis.Enhanced CT scan was performed in 14 cases:11with inhomogeneous enhancement,and 3 with homogeneous enhancement.The average CT value of the 3 mild enhancement was 36 HU,ranging from 20 to 56 HU.The average CT value of the 8 moderate enhancement was 53 HU,ranging from 36 to74 HU.The average CT value of the 3 marked enhancement 72 HU,ranging from 56 to 88 HU.7 punctate vessels and 6 polycystic changes were found in the tumors.Conclusions Mediastinal neuroblastoma in children are with certain characteristics.CT findings with clinical manifestations can make a definite diagnosis.

We have designed and carried out problem based learning (PBL) pedagogy since 2004. According to clinical eases, students learnt the pathophysiology of heart failure knowledge by themselves. Each group recommen-ded one student to make an oral presentation and wrote a review about heart failure. Preparing clinical cases and group discussions are very important. At the same time we should pay attention to the change in role of the teacher in PBL and cooperation with other disciplines.

Objective To discuss the short-term clinical effect including functional change of lipiodol- arsenic trioxide emulsion on the primary hepatic carcinoma.Methods Fifty-two patients undergone arterial chemoemblization were selected and then randomly divided into two groups:treatment group(n=27)and control group(n=25).Patients in treatment group were treated with lipiodol-arsenic trioxide,while those in control group treated with mitomycin,epirubicin,cisplatin or lipiodol.Clinical symptoms and six liver function parameters were observed and analized.Results The clinical symptoms of patients in treatment group improved much better than those in control group,and the liver function impairment of patients in treatment group also decreased more than those in control group.Conclusions Lipiodol-arsenic trioxide is an effective and safe intervention-therapeutic embolization material for primary hepatic carcinoma.

Objective To study the inhibitory effects of TPP,a desmosdumotin-C B ring para-fluoro modified derivative,on human breast cancer MCF-7 cell proliferation,and investigate the possible mechanisms.Methods MTT assay was used to measure the proliferation suppression of MCF-7 cells after treated with 1.0,2.5,5.0,10.0,and 20.0 μg/mL TPP for 48 h,and then the cell apoptosis rate and expression rate of NF-κB P65 positive cells were tested by flow cytometry after 20.0 μg/mL TPP treatment for 0,24,and 48 h.Results MTT assay showed that,after treatment for 48 h,1.0,2.5,5.0,10.0,and 20.0 μg/mL TPP all exhibited the inhibitory effects and showed a dose-dependent relationship.Flow cytometry results showed that 20.0 μg/mL TPP induced cell apoptosis after treatment for 24 and 48 h.TPP (20.0 μg/mL) significantly reduced the rate ofNF-κB P65-positive cells in MCF-7 cells after treatment for 48 h.Conclusion TPP could inhibit the proliferation of MCF-7 cells,which may be induced by cell apoptosis.Down-regulation of NF-κB is possible to be related with apoptosis.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic, repeated intestinal inflammatory disease. Clinically commonly used therapeutic drugs have some disadvantages, such as poor efficacy and many adverse reactions after long-term application. Although new biological therapies such as anti-tumor necrosis factor agents, overcome common adverse reactions, also have problems such as high price, difficult storage, drug resistance and recurrence after application. In recent years, many new therapeutic methods for inflammatory bowel disease have emerged, for example, modulators that inhibit lymphocyte migration (integrin inhibitors and sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor agonists) have been introduced into the clinical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, inflammatory cytokine inhibitors (interleukin-23 inhibitors, Janus kinase inhibitors, phosphodiesterase inhibitors, etc.) and inhibitors targeting fibrosis and intestinal tissue degradation and remodeling (matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors) are also being evaluated in clinical trials of IBD. Based on the mechanisms of action, this paper intends to outline the current mainstream IBD therapies and some emerging drugs, and briefly introduce their targets to provide reference for IBD drug design and development.
