1. Stimulated by retinoic acid gene 8 (Stra8) plays important roles in many stages of spermatogenesis
Asian Journal of Andrology 2018;20(5):479-487
To clarify the functions and mechanism of stimulated by retinoic acid gene 8 (Stra8) in spermatogenesis, we analyzed the testes from Stra8 knockout and wild-type mice during the first wave of spermatogenesis. Comparisons showed no significant differences in morphology and number of germ cells at 11 days postpartum, while 21 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with spermatogenesis were identified. We speculate that Stra8 performs many functions in different phases of spermatogenesis, such as establishment of spermatogonial stem cells, spermatogonial proliferation and self-renewal, spermatogonial differentiation and meiosis, through direct or indirect regulation of these DEGs. We therefore established a preliminary regulatory network of Stra8 during spermatogenesis. These results will provide a theoretical basis for further research on the mechanism underlying the role of Stra8 in spermatogenesis.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic transnasal lacrimal duct reconstruction by grafting of autogenous tissue is a novel method for treatment of severe lacrimal duct obstruction and it needs detailed anatomical data for surgery.OBJECTIVE: To study the applied microsurgical anatomy of lacrimal duct and to provide anatomical evidence for endoscopic transnasal lacrimal duct reconstruction by grafting of autoganous tissue.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: This study was performed at the laboratory of the Department of Ophthalmology, Armed Police General Hospital from July 2006 to June 2007.MATERIALS: Twenty 10% formaldehyde-treated adult cadaveric heads, 14 males and 6 females, comprising 40 lacrimal ducts were included in this study.METHODS: The cadaveric heads were split on the level of the line between the superior border of the superciliary arch and the site 10 mm higher than occipital tuberosity. After removal of brain tissue, the heads were decalcified for approximate 1 week with 10%nitric acid. This promised non-alteration of morphological structure and facilitation for surgical cutting. Following dissection of facial cranium in the median sagittal plane, the nasal septum was excised to expose the lateral wall of the nasal cavity.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The anteroposterior diameter and depth of lacrimal fossa; at middle third level, the thickness of lacrimal fossa at the anterior lacrimal crest, vertical middle line, and posterior lacrimal crest; the cross section area of nasolacrimal canal upper opening, middle part, and lower opening; horizontal distance, 30° oblique distance, and 45°oblique distance from lacrimal caruncie to nasal cavity; distance from lacrimal caruncle to nasolacrimal canal upper opening; and the included angle between lacrimal caruncle-nasolacrimal canal upper opening line and Aeby's plane.RESULTS: The length, anteroposterior diameter, and depth of lacrimal fossa were (17.85±1.72) mm, (6.74+1.28) mm, and (3.09+0.78) mm, respectively. At middle third level, the thickness of lacrimal fossa at the anterior lacrimal crest, perpendicular bisector, and posterior lacrimal crest was (4.03±0.89) mm, (0.61±0.36) mm, and (0.63±0.24) mm, respectively.Anterior lacrimal crest was significantly thicker than vertical middle line and posterior lacrimal crest (P > 0.05). Horizontal distance, 30°oblique distance, and 45° oblique distance from lacrimal caruncle to nasal cavity was (17.23±0.70) mm,(14.51±1.72) mm, and (17.34±2.38) mm, accordingly, with a difference which was not significant (P > 0.05). The distance from lacrimal caruncle to lateral wall middle point of nasolacrimal duct superior opening was (11.86±1.84) mm, and the included angle between lacrimal caruncle-lateral wall middle point of nasolacrimal duct superior opening line and Aeby's plane averaged (49.9±1.8)°.CONCLUSION: The distances from lacrimal caruncle to nasal cavity and lacrimal sac and the included angles between lacrimal caruncle-nasolacrimal canal upper opening line and Aeby's plane provide guidance significance for selection of bony opening position on the lateral wall of nasal cavity and determinations of tunnel oblique angle and autogenous tissue length. Creation of bony tunnel should start from the middle or posterior middle part of lacrimal fossa and then extend towards anterior inferior region with an optimal downward oblique angle of 45°. The length of autogenous tissue used for lacrimal duct reconstruction should exceed 21.22 mm.

National Journal of Andrology 2016;22(1):72-76
Spermiogenesis is a complex process of differentiation and morphologic alteration, in which sperm acrosome formation is an important stage. Acrosome is an essential component of the sperm head, which develops in four distinct phases: Golgi, cap, acro- somal, and maturation, each supported by precise and orderly regulation of various genes. The regulatory genes which act on Golgi ap- paratus include GOPC, Hrb, SPATA16, PICK1, and CK2α', those involved in the cap phase are Fads2, syntaxin 2, Kdm3a, and UBR7, and participating in acrosomal and maturation phases are KIFC1, Rnf19a, and DPY19L2. The abnormalities of these genes may affect male fertility by influencing the connection of the nuclear dense lamina and acroplaxome with the nuclear membrane and then the fusion and transportation of vesicles. This review focuses on the genes involved in different phases of acrosome formation.

OBJECTIVETo observe the expression of Ginkgo biloba Tablet (GbT) on scavenger receptor A (SRA) of the aortic wall and changes of serum inflammatory factors in atherosclerotic rats, and to explore its new mechanism for fighting against atherosclerosis (AS).
METHODSTotally 45 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into the control group, the model group, the GbT group, 15 rats in each group. Levels of blood glucose, blood lipids, blood calcium, serum C-reactive protein (CRP), soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (slCAM-1), and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) were measured in all rats. The expression of SRA in the aortic wall of atherosclerotic rats was observed by immunohistochemical assay. The correlation between the expression of SRA and levels of in-flammatory factors was also observed.
RESULTSCompared with the control group, blood glucose and blood calcium obviously increased (P < 0.05); levels of TG, TC, and LDL-C were significantly elevated (P < 0.01); neointimal areas were significantly thickened, increased intima percentage was significantly enlarged, narrowed lumen index was significantly reduced; levels of CRP, sICAM-1, and sVCAM-1 were significantly elevated in the model group (all P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, blood glucose and blood calcium obviously decreased (P < 0.05); levels of TG, TC, and LDL-C significantly decreased (P < 0.01) in the GbT group. Aortic lumens were obviously narrower in the model group than in the GbT group (P < 0.05). SRA expressed at the aortic wall. The aforesaid 3 indices were significantly improved in the GbT group than in the model group (P < 0.01). Serum levels of CRP, sICAM-1, and sVCAM-1 were significantly decreased in the GbT group than in the model group (P < 0.01). Serum levels of CRP, sICAM-1, and sVCAM-1 were positively correlated with the percentage of SRA positive expression area (r = 0.701, 0.604, 0.581, all P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONSSerum levels of inflammatory factors in atherosclerotic rats were elevated, and the expression of SRA in the aortic wall was enhanced. The expression of SRA was closely correlated with serum levels of inflammatory factors. GbT could decrease serum levels of inflammatory factors and inhibit the expression of SRA.

Abstract: Objective To find out the existing problems and provide reference for further improving the quality of report information by analyzing the report cards of COVID-19 and the positive report cards of primary screening reported in Ningxia. Methods All COVID-19 case cards from 2020 to 2021 and initial screening positive cards were derived from the Chinese Information System for Disease Control and Prevention according to final review date. The timeliness of case reporting, timeliness of case review, completeness and accuracy of the case cards were analyzed. Results In Ningxia, the first case of COVID-19 was reported on January 20, 2020, and as of December 31, 2021, 122 confirmed cases and 4 symptomatic infected cases were reported. In 2021, the timely reporting rate of COVID-19 was 98.00%, which increased by 8.24% compared with 2020 (90.54%). Compared with 2020, the average time limit for diagnosis to reporting of COVID-19 in 2021 was shortened by 83.12%; in 2021, the timely review rate of COVID-19 was 100.00%, which increased by 13.84% compared with 2020 (87.84%). Compared with 2020, the time from reporting to final review was shortened by 98.91%. In 2021, the timely rate of positive reports in COVID-19 in Ningxia was 90.00%, among which the timely rate of reports by county (district) nucleic acid detection institutions was the highest (92.31%), followed by municipal (91.67%) and autonomous region (81.82%). Conclusions At the beginning of the epidemic in 2020, the timeliness of COVID-19 in Ningxia was poor, and through the implementation of measures such as technical training, supervision and inspection to continuously optimize the staffing of medical institutions and disease control institutions, the timeliness of reporting COVID-19 in Ningxia in 2021 was substantially improved, but there were still some weak links. In the future work, technical guidance and training should be carried out for weak links, and efforts should be made to improve the quality of reports.
