OBJECTIVETo compare the therapeutic effects between close reduction and plaster slab fixation combined with plaster external traction and operation for the treatment of pediatric closed Gartland type III supracondylar humerus fractures without neurovascular injury complications.
METHODSFrom June 2009 to June 2012, 151 children with closed Gartland III supracondylar humerus fractures were retrospectively studied and divided into two groups, including 87 boys and 64 girls, ranging in age from 1 to 12 years old with an average of 5.3 years old. Among them, 76 children (conservative group) were treated with close reduction and plaster slab fixation combined with plaster external traction; 75 children (operation group) underwent surgical operation. The time of elbow joint function exercise, the healing time of fracture, the function recovery of elbow joint and carrying angle was recorded and analyzed. The therapeutic effects were evaluated by the Flynn criteria system.
RESULTSAll patients were followed up from 6 to 36 months (18.3 months on average). The average time of fracture healing and elbow joint functional exercise of the conservative group was shorter than those of operation group (P < 0.001). Motion range of the elbows and carrying angle of two groups were no statistical difference (P > 0.05). According to Flynn criteria system, in conservative group, the result was excellent in 31 cases, good in 35, fair in 7, and poor in 3; in operation group, 27 in excellent, 30 in good, 17 in fair and 1 in poor; there was no significant difference between two groups in therapeutic effects (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONClose reduction and plaster slab fixation combined with plaster external traction in treatment of pediatric closed Gartland type III supracondylar humerus fractures without neurovascular injury complications, which has similar effect to surgical treatment, and the time of fracture healing and elbow joint function exercise are significantly shorter.

Objective To explore effects of heat stress response on neutrophil apoptosis and respiratory burst function. MethodsNeutrophils from each of 18 healthy volunteers were divided into 3 parts, and one part was served as control group, and the other two parts were induced by heat shock or cadmium chloride for heat stress response and named as heat shock group and cadmium chloride group. The neutrophils were incubated in culture medium. At 0,2,3,4,and 6 h following heat stress induction, the heat shock protein(HSP70) expression and the respiratory burst were detected in the neutrophils respectively by using PCR technique and flow cytometer.Level of apoptosis was observed by immuno-fluorescence and flow cytometer DNA ploid at 24 h after heat stress induction. Results In the heat shock and cadmium chloride groups,HSP70 expression at each time point and cell apoptosis at 24 h were significantly higher than those of control group(P

OBJECTIVETo investigate surgical methods and effects of unstable scapular fracture.
METHODSFrom October 2008 to August 2011, 14 patients with unstable scapular fracture were treated. There were 12 males and 2 females with an average age of 38.7 years (ranging, 21 to 55 years). The time from injury to hospitalization was 1 hour to 10 days (mean 3 days). Among patients,3 patients had scapular body fracture,4 patients had scapular neck and body fracture,4 patients had scapular neck and acromion fracture,2 patients had glenoid cavity and coracoid fracture, 1 patient with scapular spine and coracoid fracture. All patients were treated by operation, Hardegger classification system was applied to evaluate the function.
RESULTSAll patients were followed up for 2 to 36 months (mean 12.4 months). The healing time ranged from 6 to 8 weeks. No infection and internal fixation failure occurred. The effect result of Hardegger scoring system was excellent in 9 cases, good in 3 cases, fair in 2 cases.
CONCLUSIONSurgical treatment for unstable scapular fracture can reconstruct stability of shoulder joint, promote early rehabilitation of joint function, and maximally restore shoulder function.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of gentamicin solution in transurethral ureteroscopic lithotripsy to prevent postop- erative infection. Methods Prospective clinical randomized control study was conducted. From July 2003 to June 2006,116 ca- ses of ureteral stones at high risk of postoperative infection were randomized into control group or gentamicin group.Patients in gentamicin group received gentamicin solution for washing in the operation. All the patients undergoing operation were followed up for 2 weeks after operation.Diagnosis of postoperative infection was based on clinical manifestations. Results A total of 109 patients received operation in all the 116 cases, including 58 cases in gentamicin group and 51 cases in control group.Thirteen cases of postoperative infection were identified in all the patients receiving operation (11.93%),3 cases in gentamicin group and 10 in control group. The incidence of postoperative infection was significantly different between the two groups (X~2= 5.3342,P=0.0209).Eight cases had positive bacterial culture.Of the microbiological isolates,2 were gram-positive bacteria, 5 gram-negative bacteria and 1 Candida albicans. Conclusions The most common pathogen causing postoperative infection after transurethral ureteroscopic lithotripsy is gram-negative bacteria. The use of gentamicin solution for washing in the operation can reduce the incidence of postoperative infection.

Objective To study the effects of 50 Hz magnetic fields on the in vitro proliferation of human osteosareoma cell line MG-63 with different cell densities. Methods Four different magnetic intensities(1 mT, 2 mT,3 roT,4 mT)were used to stimulate the cells, and the experiment was repeated with different cell densities. The method of MTT was employed to evaluate the level of proliferation. Results Fifty Hz magnetic fields signifi- cantly affected the level of proliferation of human osteosareoma cell line MG-63,and the 2 mT intensity exerted the greatest influence on it.The effects of the magnetic field differed with different cell densities. Conclusion The effect of 50 Hz magnetic fields on the in vitro proliferation of human osteosarcoma cell line MG-63 was not only relat- ed to the magnetic intensity, but also the cell density,

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of rhodiola on expression of vascular endothelial cell growth factor (VEGF) and angiogenesis in aortic atherosclerotic plaque of rabbits.
METHODSThirty male New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups equally, i. e. the control group (A) fed with common diet and treated with distilled water, the high fat diet group (B) and the rhodiola group (C) fed with diet containing 1.5% cholesterol and treated respectively with distilled water and rhodiola (1 mL/kg per day), all the treatments were administered via gastrogavage once a day for 9 successive weeks. Level of blood lipids in various groups was determined and compared at the end of the experiment. Meanwhile, the tissue sample of aorta was taken for observation through HE and Sudan red staining, for detecting the CD34 positive response intensity by immunohistochemical staining and the VEGF expression by Real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR and Western blot.
RESULTSDetermination of blood lipids showed that in Group C, TC was 42.01 +/- 1.99 mmol/L, TG 4.83 +/- 0.75 mmol/L and LDL-C 38.40 +/- 0.74 mmol/L, all lower than those in Group B (70.74 +/- 2.66 mmol/L, 8.75 +/- 0.78 mmol/L and 51.05 +/- 0.34 mmol/L, respectively), showing statistical difference between groups (P < 0.05). The intima/media tunica thickness ratio and the CD34 positive area of plaque in Group C were all lower than those in Group B (0.35 +/- 0.03 vs 0.43 +/- 0.03 and 29.12 +/- 2.56% vs 39.28 +/- 3.48%, P <0.05). Besides, the VEGF expression in atherosclerotic plaque was also lower in Group C than that in Group B.
CONCLUSIONRhodiola has the effects of inhibiting atherosclerosis formation, decreasing the VEGF expression and suppressing the angiogenesis in the plaque.
