OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of locking plate fixation through lateral deltoid approach for proximal humeral fracture combined with micro-invasive percutaneous plating (MIPPO) technique.
METHODSFrom April 2009 to March 2012,26 patients with proximal humeral fractures were treated with proximal humeral locking system plate fixation through lateral deltoid approach, including 17 males and 9 females with an average age of 58 years old ranging from 28 to 76 years old. The time from injury to operation was 3 to 10 days (averaged 5.6 days). According to Neer typing for the proximal humeral fractures, 7 cases had 2 parts of fracture,15 had 3 parts of fracture, and 4 had 4 parts of fracture. The Neer score for shoulder function was evaluated.
RESULTSAll patients were followed up,and the duration ranged from 10 to 21 months (averaged 13.6 months). All patients were achieved bony union, the average healing time was 12.5 weeks (ranged from 10 to 21 weeks). No humeral head necrosis and axillary nerve injury occurred. According to Neer scoring system, the total score was 88.36 +/- 7.82, pain 30.82 +/- 3.24, function 23.76 +/- 5.71, activity 17.59 +/- 5.36, anatomical position 7.03 +/- 2.39; the result was excellent in 18 cases, good in 5 cases, fair in 2 cases, poor in 1 case.
CONCLUSIONLateral deltoid approach combined with locking plate fixation for treatment of proximal humeral fracture has advantages of small invasion, less blood lossing, short operative time, stable fixation, high rate of fracture healing, and satisfactory functional recovery.

The seeds of Rabdosia rubescens were as the materials to research the impacts of different lead (Pb2+) concentrations(0, 135, 270, 540, 1 080 mg x L(-1)) on seed germination and seedling growth. The results show that: Low concentration of lead had no obvious effect on early germination of the seed, the germination vigor and germination speed were lightly higher but not significantly differed at the level of Pb concentration 135 mg x L(-1) with control group; Mid-high concentration of Pb solution (270-1 080 mg x L(-1)) significantly inhibited the seed germination and seedling growth, which reduced the seed germination rate, germination vigor, germination index, embryo root length and shoot length, growth index with increasing of Pb concentrations. There was a inhibitory effect on embryo shoot length and root length at mid-high lead concentrations stress, and stronger inhibitory effect on root , which was more sensitive than shoot to Pb stress(P < 0.05). Pb bioaccumulation coefficient (BC) was 0.76-2.59, increased with concentration of Pb; Pb enrichment in seedling mainly caused the growth inhibition. The fitting model predictive analyses show, the critical concentration of Pb, which causes the germination rate and biomass fresh weight reducing 10%, is 195.18, 101.65 mg x L(-1).

OBJECTIVETo study modified ilioinguinal approach through the retrospective analysis on the surgical treatment of 63 patients with pelvic and acetabular fractures through anterior approach.
METHODSFrom January 2006 to January 2013, 63 patients with pelvic and acetabular fractures were treated with the ilioinguinal anterior approach, including 45 males and 18 females, ranging in age from 12 to 68 years old, with an average of (37.71 +/- 13.41) years old. All the patients were divided into two groups: standard ilioinguinal anterior approach group (group A) and modified ilioinguinal anterior approach group(group B). In group A, there were 26 males and 11 females, with an average age of (38.49 +/- 13.64) years old. In group B, there were 19 males and 7 females, with an average age of (36.62 +/- 13.29) years old. Intraoperative and postoperative indicators in group A and B were observed and compared, including operation incision exposure time (from skin incision to complete the ilioinguinal in front of three "windows"), the blood loss, incision close time and treatment effect of Majeed function score.
RESULTSCompared to group A, the incision exposure time of patients in group B was shorter, the blood loss (bleeding during exposure process) was less, and the close incision time was shorter, but the treatment effect of Majeed function score had no significant differences between two groups. All the patients were followed up, and the during ranged from 3 to 36 months, with an average of (18.6 +/- 9.2) months. According to Matta standard assessment reduction of pelvic and acetabular fracture, there were 28 patients got an excellent result, 8 good, and 1 fair in the group A; and 20 patients got an excellent result, 5 good, and 1 fair in the group B. According to Majeed function score for hip function, 20 patients got a satisfactory result, 12 good,4 fair and 1 poor in group A, and the mean score was 82.51 +/- 9.72; and 13 patients got an satisfactory result, 10 good, 3 fair and 0 poor in group B, and the mean score was 80.54 +/- 10.79.
CONCLUSIONThe modified approach has several advantages as follows: providing a good surgical exposure; preventing from the injury of femoral nerve, femoral artery and vein under the inguinal ligament; not needing to open the inguinal canal, which can avoid the occurrence of inguinal hernia, reduce operation prodedures and shorten operation time.

Objective To observe Meissner's corpuscles in prepuces of different shapes and ages. Methods The Meissner's corpuscles were detected with immunohistochemical stain in 204 prepuce sam- ples of different shapes and ages (3-59 years),and the density of Meissner's corpuscles in every sample was obtained as well. The difference of Meissner's corpuscle densities between phimosis and redundant pre- puce, and correlation between Meissner's corpuscle densities and ages were analyzed with Chi-square test and linear regression, respectively. Results The density of Meissner's corpuscles in redundant prepuce has begun to increase since infancy and reached the peak at the age about 15 years. No significant difference in densities of Meissner's corpuscles between phimosis and redundant prepuce was observed till the age of 20 years, and then there was a trend of disappearance of Meissner's corpuscles in redundant prepuce.A signifi- cantly negative correlation between the densities of Meissner's corpuscles and ages was revealed in redundant prepuce (r=-0.236,P=0.009),whereas an insignificantly positive correlation between the densities of Meissner's corpuscles and ages was shown in phimosis (r=0.193,P=0.084).Conclusions The den- sities of Meissner's corpuscles in redundant prepuce develop synchronically with genital differentiation and accord with the status of sexual function in adult males. The persistent high level of Meissner's corpuscles in adult phimosis might be a mechanism of physiological compensation.

Objective To observe the status of oxidative stress and activity of alkaline phosphatase(ALP) in rats exposed to high fluoride for the different periods and to analyze the effect of fluoride on the activity of ALP and oxidative stress in fluorosis rats. Methods Twenty-four Wistar rats were divided into control and high-fluoride groups according to their body mass, 12 rats in each group. The control group drank tap water(sodium fluoride concentrations < 1 mg/L), and high-fluoride group drank tap water containing sodium fluoride(sodium fluoride concentrations 221 mg/L). On a standard diet and water available ad hbitum, each rat was measured body weight once a week in 1,4,8,12 week. The biochemical techniques were used to test the indicators of oxidative stress including malonaldehyde(MDA), superoxidedismutase(SOD), glutathione peroxidase(GPx), uric acid and activity of ALP in serum of fluorosis rats. Results There was a interaction between fluoride and time in the activity of ALP (F = 4.690,P < 0.05). The activity of ALP was obviously higher in rats exposed to fluoride for 1,12 week [ (19.29± 3.69), (15.72 ± 0.79)kU/L] compared to the control[ (14.08 ± 1.99),(12.91 ± 3.97)kU/L, all P< 0.05] ; the level of MDA was obviously higher in rats exposed to fluoride for 1,4 week [ ( 13.37 ± 4.38 ), ( 11.82 ± 2.08) μmol/L ] compared to the respective control[ (8.75 ± 3.24), (7.42 ± 2.62)μmol/L, all P < 0.05]; difference of SOD and GPx between control and high-fluoride groups was not statistically significant(all P > 0.05); the level of uric acid in serum was significantly higher in high-fluoride group for 1,4 week[ (89.53 ± 13.21 ), (88.47 ± 19.78 )μmol/L] compared to the control [ (77.79 ± 11.43 ), (65.42 ± i 3.42) μ mol/L, all P < 0.05 ], but the level of uric acid showed lower in high-fluoride group for 8,12 week [(67.21 ± 9.44), (73.95 ± 9.52)μmol/L] compared to the control [(77.79 ± 11.43), (65.42 ± 13.42)μmol/L]. Conclusions Effect of overdose fluoride on ALP is time-dependant. On the other hand, overdose fluoride stimulates the status of oxidative stress in a way unrelated to the exposure period.
