This paper is aimed to study the effects of nitrogen form on the growth and quality of Chrysanthemums morifolium at the same nitrogen level. In order to provide references for nutrition regulation of Ch. morifolium in field production, pot experiments were carried out in the greenhouse at experimental station of Nanjing Agricultural University. Five proportions of ammonium and nitrate nitrogen were set up and a randomized block design was applied four times repeatedly. The results showed that the growth and quality of Ch. morifolium were significantly influenced by the nitrogen form. The content of chlorophyll and photosynthesis rate were the highest at the NH4(+) -N /NO3(-) -N ratio of 25:75; The activities of NR in different parts of Ch. -morifolium reached the highest at the NH4(+) - N/NO3(-) -N ratio of 0: 100. The contents of nitrate nitrogen in the root and leaves reached the highest at the NH4(+) -N/NO3(-) -N ratio of 50:50. The activities of GS, GOGAT and the content of amylum increased with the ratio of NO3(-) -N decreasing and reached it's maximum at the NH4 + -N/NO3 - -N ratio of 100: 0. The content of ammonium nitrogen were the highest at the NH4 + -N /NO3 --N ratio of 75: 25, while the content of soluble sugar reached the highest at the NH4(+)-N/NO3(-) -N ratio of 25: 75. The content of flavones, chlorogenic acid and 3,5-O-dicoffeoylqunic acid were 57.2 mg x g(-1), 0.673% and 1.838% respectively, reaching the maximum at the NH4(+) -N /NO3(-) -N ratio of 25:75; The content of luteoloside increased with the ratio of NO3(-) -N increasing and reached it's maximum at the NH4(+) -N/NO3(-) -N ratio of 0: 100. The yield of Ch. morifolium reached it's maximum at the NH4(+) -N /NO3(-) -N ratio of 25:75. Nitrogen form has some remarkable influence on the nitrogen metabolism, photosynthesis and growth, Nitrogen form conducive to the growth and quality of Ch. morifolium at the NH4(+) -N /NO3(-) -N ratio of 25: 75.

BackgroundIt is important to measure the corneal curvature, anterior chamber depth (ACD) and axial length accurately for calculating IOL power. The interchange outcomes from different measuring methods and apparatus will cause unreliable IOL power. ObjectiveThe present study was to compare the differences of corneal curvature, anterior chamber depth (ACD) measured by IOLMaster and Orbscan Ⅱbefore and after laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK) and further compare the axial length measured by IOLMaster and A-ultrasound. Methods One hundred and thirty eyes from 65 consecutive myopic patients before LASIK and 56 eyes of 28 cases with 1-month follow-up duration after LASIK in Henan Eye Institute were enrolled in this study. The K value, ACD between IOLMaster and Orbscan Ⅱ as well as results of axial length between IOLMaster and A-ultrasound were compared by using paired t test. The agreements of the measured values among IOLMaster, Orbscan Ⅱ and A-ultrasound were evaluated using Bland-Altman plot. ResultsBefore LASIK,the K value measured by IOLMaster,Orbscan Ⅱ were ( 43.32 ± 1.52 ) D and ( 42.99 ± 1.45 ) D respectively with the difference value of( 0. 33 ±0. 03 ) D, showing a significant difference(t=10. 380,P=0.000) and a positive relation between them(r=0.971,P=0.000). After LASIK,the K value measured by IOLMaster, Orbscan Ⅱwere(39. 02±2. 14) D and ( 38.91 ±2. 04) D with the difference value (0. 12±0. 33 ) D, presenting a significant differences between them (t =2.715, P =0.009). Bland-Altman plots indicated the disagreement in K value and uninterchangeable. Before LASIK, the ACD measured by IOLMaster,Orbscan Ⅱ and A-ultrasound were ( 3.72 ± 0. 22 ) mm, ( 3.69 ±0. 22 ) mm and ( 3.75± 0.27 )mm respectively and no significant differences were found between them (P > 0. 05 ). Axial length measured by IOLMaster significantly prolonged in comparison with A-ultrasound(25.59± 1. 01 mm vs 25.22±0.99 mm ) , and the difference was( -0. 37 ±0. 30 ) mm, showing significant difference ( t =- 14. 098, P =0. 000 ) and positive correlation ( r =0. 954, P =0. 000 ). Axial length values measured by IOLMaster were ( 25.54 ± 1.05 ) mm in preoperation and ( 25.48 ± 1.01 ) mm in postoperation with the difference (0.052±0. 412)mm, showing statistically insignificant difference between them (t=0. 946,P=0. 348). ConclusionsKeratometries measured by IOLMaster,Orbscan Ⅱ are much more different. Therefore, these two methods are not recommended to use interchangely. ACD measured by IOLMaster,Orbscan Ⅱ and A ultrasound are proved to obtain the similar results and is clinically interchange. Axial length measured by IOLMaster is longer than that measured by A-ultrasound.

Multi-stage countercurrent extraction technology, integrating solvent extraction, repercolation with dynamic and countercurrent extraction, is a novel extraction technology for the traditional Chinese medicine. This solvent-saving, energy-saving and high-extraction-efficiency technology can at the most drive active compounds to diffuse from the herbal materials into the solvent stage by stage by creating concentration differences between the herbal materials and the solvents. This paper reviewed the basic principle, the influence factors and the research progress and trends of the equipments and the application of the multi-stage countercurrent extraction.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2008;28(2):209-212
OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of toluene diisocyanate (TDI) on the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in human bronchial epithelial (HBE) cells.
METHODSTDI-human serum albumin (TDI- HSA) conjugate was prepared using a modified Son's method. MTT assay was used to examine the viability of HBE135-E6E7 cells cultured in serum-free medium after treatment with HSA or TDI-HSA at different concentrations. VEGF mRNA expression of the HBE cells treated with HSA or TDI-HSA at 10, 20, 30 and 40 microg/ ml, respectively, was detected using semi-quantitative RT-PCR.
RESULTSTreatment with 40 microg/ml HSA and 40 microg/ml TDI-HSA did not result in significant changes in the viability of HBE135-E6E7 cells. RT-PCR revealed the constitutive expression of two VEGF isoforms, namely VEGF189 and VEGF165, in cultured HBE135-E6E7 cells. After exposure to TDI-HSA at the different concentrations (except for 10 microg/ml), a significant increase occurred in both VEGF189 and VEGF165 mRNA expressions in HBE135-E6E7 cells as compared with the expressions in the control group and the HSA-treated cells (P<0.05), and significant dose dependence was noted in the effect of TDI-HSA (P<0.05). No significant difference was found in the expressions between the control cells and the HAS-treated cells (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONTDI induces significant increase in VEGF expression in HBE cells, and VEGF overexpression may play an important role in the pathogenesis of TDI-induced asthma.

OBJECTIVETo report a case of rectal non-Hodgkin lymphoma with concomitant rectal adenocarcinoma.
METHODSClinical records of a 71 years old male patient with rectal non-Hodgkin lymphoma with concomitant rectal adenocarcinoma admitted on May 19, 2010 to the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yet-sen University were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment as well as postoperative pathology were summarized.
RESULTSThe preoperative diagnosis of the patient was severe atypical adenomatous hyperplasia with focal carcinogenesis, and the preoperative staging was T2N0-1M0. The patient underwent a Parks procedure (rectal resection and colo-anal anastomosis) and subtotal resection of left lateral liver. The operation was successful, postoperative recovery uneventful. Postoperative pathology showed moderately differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma with deep muscular invasion, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma with marginal zone cell. Both the distal and proximal resection margins were negative and no vascular and neural invasion were seen. Immunohistochemical staining indicated L26(+), Bcl-2(+), Bcl-6(+), CD3(-), CD23(-), CK epithelial cells(+), and M-CEA luminal border(+). The pathological and immunohistochemistry results of liver specimens showed hepatic mucosa-associated marginal zone lymphoma.
CONCLUSIONSRectal adenocarcinoma and lymphoma occurring at the same site simultaneously is extremely rare with unique pathologic features.

Objective To explore the best operation time and approach, and the improvement mechanism of radiation encephalopathy in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods The data of 9 patients with radiation encephalopathy after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma who admitted to our hospital from January 1996 and December 2008 were retrospectively analyzed. The neurological manifestations, imaging, neurosurgery strategies and pathological features of the patients were collected and analyzed. The efficacy and the follow-up results were compared. Results MRI showed such typical encephalopathy as severe edema or necrosis in the temporal lobe in most patients adopted radiotherapy; edema and necrosis in the brain tissues, hyaline degeneration and blocking in the small blood vessels were showed by pathologic examination. Some patients manifested as having unilateral edema or liquefactive necrosis in the brain with marked mass effect. After the surgery, the edema in the patients' brain was alleviated; 8 patients got improvement and discharged from the hospital in 2-3 weeks with stable vital signs. Eight patients achieved complete remission of headache with 1 having mild headache. Conclusion When medical treatment is not effective in patients who developed edema or liquefactive necrosis after radiotherapy, neurosurgery is a good therapeutic strategy, which can alleviate the symptoms, help clarify the diagnosis and guide the follow-up treatment.
