Objective To observe Meissner's corpuscles in prepuces of different shapes and ages. Methods The Meissner's corpuscles were detected with immunohistochemical stain in 204 prepuce sam- ples of different shapes and ages (3-59 years),and the density of Meissner's corpuscles in every sample was obtained as well. The difference of Meissner's corpuscle densities between phimosis and redundant pre- puce, and correlation between Meissner's corpuscle densities and ages were analyzed with Chi-square test and linear regression, respectively. Results The density of Meissner's corpuscles in redundant prepuce has begun to increase since infancy and reached the peak at the age about 15 years. No significant difference in densities of Meissner's corpuscles between phimosis and redundant prepuce was observed till the age of 20 years, and then there was a trend of disappearance of Meissner's corpuscles in redundant prepuce.A signifi- cantly negative correlation between the densities of Meissner's corpuscles and ages was revealed in redundant prepuce (r=-0.236,P=0.009),whereas an insignificantly positive correlation between the densities of Meissner's corpuscles and ages was shown in phimosis (r=0.193,P=0.084).Conclusions The den- sities of Meissner's corpuscles in redundant prepuce develop synchronically with genital differentiation and accord with the status of sexual function in adult males. The persistent high level of Meissner's corpuscles in adult phimosis might be a mechanism of physiological compensation.

The present study is to establish Caco-2/HT29-MTX co-cultured cells and investigate the transport capability of PLGA nanoparticles with different surface chemical properties across Caco-2/HT29-MTX co-cultured cells. PLGA-NPs, mPEG-PLGA-NPs and chitosan coated PLGA-NPs were prepared by nanoprecipitation method using poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) as carrier material with surface modified by methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) and chitosan. The particle size and zeta potential of nanoparticles were measured by dynamic light scattering. Coumarin 6 was used as a fluorescent marker in the transport of nanoparticles investigated by confocal laser scanning microscopy. The transport of furanodiene (FDE) loaded nanoparticles was quantitively determined by high performance liquid chromatography. Colchicine and nocodazole were used in the transport study to explore the involved endocytosis mechanisms of nanoparticles. Distribution of the tight junction proteins ZO-1 was also analyzed by immunofluorescence staining. The results showed that the nanoparticles dispersed uniformly. The zeta potential of PLGA-NPs was negative, the mPEG-PLGA-NPs was close to neutral and the CS-PLGA-NPs was positive. The entrapment efficiency of FDE in all nanoparticles was higher than 75%. The transport capability of mPEG-PLGA-NPs across Caco-2/HT29-MTX co-cultured cells was higher than that of PLGA-NPs and CS-PLGA-NPs. Colchicine and nocodazole could significantly decrease the transport amount of nanoparticles. mPEG-PLGA-NPs could obviously reduce the distribution of ZO-1 protein than PLGA-NPs and CS-PLGA-NPs. The transport mechanism of PLGA-NPs and mPEG-PLGA-NPs were indicated to be a combination of endocytosis and paracellular way, while CS-PLGA-NPs mainly relied on the endocytosis way. PEG coating could shield the surface charge and enhance the hydrophilicity of PLGA nanoparticles, which leads mPEG-PLGA-NPs to possess higher anti-adhesion activity. As a result, mPEG-PLGA-NPs could penetrate the mucus layer rapidly and transport across Caco-2/HT29-MTX co-cultured cells.

Objective To study the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of eosinophilic granuloma of bone(EGB).Methods Twelve cases(8 male and 4 female)of EGB and their medical record, imaging examinations,follow-up data were reviewed, and the lesion sites, symptom and clinical features were analyzed with reference to relative literature. Results Nine unifocal cases were found in the cervical spine(3 cases),the thoracic spine(1 case),the lumber spine(1 case),the femur(1 case),the metacarpal bones(1 case),and the ilium(2 cases).Three multifocal cases were found in the thoracic and lumber spine(1 case),in the femur, the multiple ribs, the skull, the scapula(1 case)and in the skull, the femur, the ilium(1 case). The most common presenting symptom was pain at the lesion site and restricted motion was obviously in the cervical lesion. The case of the thoracic lesions was found neurologic deficit.Osteolytic destruction was found in the radiologic examination in EGB and the periosteal reaction was found in the long bone lesions, and vertebra plana was considered as typical cha-racteristics in the spine lesion. The lesions not in the spine were diagnosed by biopsy, exclusive methods and close following-up were performed in the spine lesions. Two unifocal were healed spontaneously and three were performed with curettage with one bone grafting.Multifocal and the lesions in the spine underwent chemotherapy. All cases were followed up and no recurrence was found. Conclusions EGB is commonly solitary and not seldom in the spine.Topical pain may be chief complaint.Osteolytic image was found in the radiologic examination.Biopsy and exclusive methods combining closely follow-up were used for diagnosis.EGB is self-limited observation,so curettage or chemotherapy can be used in treatment, and prognosis is good.

Objective To explore the effects of surface modification of PLGA-[ASP-PEG] scaffold with typeⅠcollagen on the adhesion, proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of rabbit bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs).Methods After PLGA-[ASP-PEG] materials were modified with typeⅠcollagen chemically, the collagen was coated onto the materials physically. The BMSCs obtained from rabbits were cultured on the modified PLGA-[ ASP-PEG] and on the unmodified PLGA-[ ASP-PEG] as control. The adhesion and proliferation behavior of the cells was analyzed and the expressions of osteogenie marker alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin, osteopontin, typeⅠcollagen and core binding factor al were also detected. Results X-ray photoelectron spectrometry(XPS) confirmed that TypeⅠcollagen was grafted onto the surface of PLGA-[ASP-PEG] successfully and the collagen content on the materials modified chemically and physically was significantly increased. The abilities of adhesion and proliferation and the expressions of osteogenie makers of the BMSCs were significantly greater than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Since Type collagen I can improve the biocompatibility of PLGA- [ASP-PEG] scaffold materials,it can be used as a new way to optimize scaffolds in tissue engineering.

OBJECTIVETo examine the effect of particulate matter (PM) less than 10 microns in diameter (PM10) and ozone (O3) on daily mortality in Shanghai, China.
METHODSA generalized additive model with penalized spline function was used to observe the acute effect of PM10 and O3 on daily mortality.
RESULTSHigher PM10 significantly increased the effect of O3 on total mortality, and O3 also increased the effect of PM10 although the estimated increment was statistically insignificant.
CONCLUSIONOur findings provide further evidence for the effect of PM10 and O3 on daily mortality.

OBJECTIVEExplore the genotype of the epidemic Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) in Yunnan Province from molecular level and to understand the molecular differences of the virus isolated from Yunnan at different time, locality and host.
METHODSThree-day suckling mice were inoculated with viruses continuously and when the disease developed and the mice were dying, the brain was taken and DNA was extracted from the supernatants of the brain after grinding; then the gene fragments of Prm-C region were amplified by RT-PCR. The viral gene sequences were compared with those of other 72 strains of JEV originated from both China and abroad at different times. Finally the genotypes were analyzed with the method which was established by Woan-Ru Chen.
RESULTSAll the 3-day suckling mice which were inoculated with the virus died within 78 h. The results of the nucleic acid-sequence analysis showed that 17 strains of the experimental virus belonged to genotype 1 and 2 strains belonged to genotype 3. The difference between genotype 1 and type 3 were more than 15%. While the difference between 17 strains of genotype 1 which were separated at different time, location and hosts were only 3.8%-5.2%.
CONCLUSIONThe above results suggest that the genotype of the epidemic JEV in Yunnan Province are type 1 and 3 and the latter is the main type.
