ObjectiveTo compare costs of combined intravenous and inhalation anesthesia (CIIA) and total intravenous anesthesia (TIA) when lower limbs orthopedics (LLO) performed on cerebral palsy children (CPC).MethodsTo analyze data of 49 CPC who received LLO under CIIA and TIA,and compare costs of two anesthetic styles.ResultsTIA had a significantly lower cost than CIIA (P<0.001),and showed a lower incidence of post-operation nausea and vomiting.ConclusionTIA can decrease cost of anesthesia and post-operation nursing compared with CIIA.

By analyzing and summarizing the previous research results regarding acupuncture for insomnia, factors influencing the efficacy of acupuncture on insomnia were discussed, and a summary was made from aspects of age, gender, duration of insomnia, use of medication, types of syndrome differentiation, acupoint selection, acupoint combination, acupuncture timing, etc. With respect to the influencing factors, precautions during the clinical syndrome differentiation were briefly reviewed, and the treatment plan of acupuncture for insomnia was optimized, which could provide new methods and thoughts for clinical and scientific research regarding acupuncture for insomnia.

Objective To observe the effect of simvastatin on bone metastasis of breast cancer in nude mice model.Methods Sixty mice were divided into three groups randomly with 20 in each group.Mice were inoculated with MDA-MB-231 cells into the left cardiac ventricle.After 7 days,mice were treated with either simvastatin,saline,or nothing twice per week for 19 days.The area of osteolytic metastases was subsequently measured in long bones of all mice using an image analysis system.After sacrifice,parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) concentrations in bone marrow from all mice were determined using a two-site immunoradiometric assay.Osteoclast number expressed per millimeter of tumor/bone interface was assessed using an OsteoMeasure System.Measured data were compared with analysis of variance,and P ＜ 0.05 for the difference was statistically significant.Results The area of osteolytic lesions was significantly lower in mice treated with simvastatin compared with mice receiving saline and no treatment (0.51 ±0.18 mm2 vs 2.13 ± 1.24 mm2 vs 2.29 ± 1.22 mm2 ; F =15.600,P =0.002 ; F =15.673,P =0.001).In addition,treatment with simvastatin decreased the concentrations of PTHrP in bone marrow plasma (0.98 ±0.20 pmol/L vs 2.11 ±0.31 pmoL/L vs 1.99 ± 0.29 pmol/L; F =61.469,P ＜ 0.001 ; F =58.274,P ＜ 0.001) and the osteoclast numbers per millimeter of tumor/bone interface (4.00 ± 1.73 vs 11.40 ±4.93 vs 10.91 ± 3.87 ; F =17.820,P =0.001 ; F =17.184,P =0.002) compared with controls.Conclusion Simvastatin may reduce the production of PTHrP of breast cancer cells,which suppresses the development of destructive bone lesions as well as the growth of breast cancer cells in bone.

Objective To investigate the effect of intraspinal grafting of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) ex vivo transgene myoblasts cells and methylprednisolone on caspase-3 expression after spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods A total of 120 experimental rats were divided into Group A (spinal cord contusion injury group), Group B (grafting of BDNF ex vivo transgene myoblasts cells group), Group C (methylprednisolone intravenous injection group) and Group D (grafting of BDNF ex vivo transgene myoblasts cells and methylprednisolone intravenous injection group). In recent years, non-viral gene vectors have attracted great attention for efficient gene delivery due to the advantages, including low toxicity, low immunogenicity and simple preparation. Polyethylenimine (PEI) is one of the typical non-viral gene carriers that have been widely utilized for gene delivery owing to its superior capabilities in gene compression and buffering capacity. This article discusses the processes of gene delivery and the barriers of PEI-based carrier during the gene delivery, such as low biocompatibility, cytotoxicity, lack of specific targeting and insufficient gene release, etc. Therefore, we summarize the multiple approaches for the modifications of PEI in terms of improved biocompatibility, degradability, specific targeting and buffering capacity. Furthermore, we also review on the recent impressive progresses of smart stimuli-responsive PEI carriers, including endogenous stimuli (pH, reactive oxygen species, glutathione, biomolecular, etc), exogenous stimuli (light, temperature, magnetic field, etc) and dual-responsive strategies, which might provide guidance for the development of more efficient and safer non-viral gene vectors.

Complex genetic variation has been known to occur during the transmission of human enterovirus (HEV), and the HEV virulence and pathogenicity enhanced by genetic recombination also pose a serious threat to human health. In recent years, the interest in recombination mechanism of genetic plasticity has been renewed with the emergence of pathogenic recombinant circulating vaccine-derived polioviruses, which were implicated in poliomyelitis outbreaks in several regions of the world with insufficient vaccination coverage. This paper reviews recent research progress in HEV genome, including evolutionary characteristics, recombination types, and in vitro recombinant construction.

Objective To examine the neural basis of item memory and source memory with fMRI approach.Methods Eight male and eight female healthy fight-handed native Chinese speakers were involved in this study.The item memory and source memory task were conducted with 504 highly frequent Chinese double-character words in the Block-designed experiment.Participants underwent such a double- round procedure as fMRI scanning following study.The fMRI data collected from a GE 1.5T MRI system were analyzed to generate corresponding activation maps for females and males respectively(P20)using statistical parametric mapping software(SPM).Results For females,item memory task activated the bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(BA6,the number of activated voxel clusters was 62 or 11 in the left and the right,respectively),source memory more activated the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(BA6/46,the number was 59).For males,item memory activated the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(BA6/46,the number was 64),source memory activated the bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(BA6,9 and 40 in the left and the right).Conclusion On the neural basis of item or source memory,there exists dissociation,which is that right dorsolateral prefrontal areas are more activated by item memory while left dorsolateral prefrontal areas by source memory.For the difference of gender,it is suggested that left dorsolateral prefrontal areas(BA6/46)are more activated in females while right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(BA6/46)more in males.

· AIM: To study the in situ relative intraocular position of the iris-claw phakic intraocular lens (PIOL)for high myopia using an anterior chamber optical coherence tomography (AC OCT)prototype.· METHODS: Six PIOLs (11.50 to 22.00D lens powers) were implanted in phakic myopic eyes. Using AC OCT, tomography was taken in the anterior chamber to measure the preoperative anterior chamber depth, postoperative distance between the PIOL and the corneal endothelium (endothelial-optic distance), and the postoperative distance between the PIOL and the crystalline lens.· RESULTS: Preoperative anterior chamber depth ranged from 3.27 to 3.91 mm and the postoperative endothelial-optic distance measured 2,07 to 2,24 mm. The distance between the crystalline lens and the posterior surface of the IOL ranged from 0.82 to 1.32 mm. Several tomography revealed the position of the PIOL on the iris, The pigment layer of the iris did not seem to be disturbed by the presence of the PIOL.· CONCLUSION, The original anterior chamber depths were reduced by 36,1% to 44.6% after implantation. This study of 6 eyes revealed that tomography taken by AC OCT are useful in verifying the intraocular position of the PIOL within the anterior chamber. Adequate space was maintained between the iris-fixated phakic intraocular lens and the corneal endothelium, angle, and crystalline lens.
