Understanding the kinetics of normal blinking is helpful for assessing ptosis, third and seventh cranial nerve palsy. Many different techniques have been used to measure the kinetics of blinking. These techniques require expensive tools and specific clinical environment. And they are invasive and difficult to apply to children because of lack of cooporation. We videotaped the eyelid movements of normal subject using video camera which can be used in uncooperative children and is noninvasive manner. There was no significant difference in the mean velocity and the time of eye closure and opening according to the age and sex(p>0.05). But the greater the levator palpebra function, the faster the mean velocity of eye opening and the faster the mean velocity of eye closure, the lesser the D ratio. We took standard data of eyelid movement of normal subject. Therefore, we may expect the diagnostic value of eyelid movement measurement using video camera in eyelid movement disorders.

Acrodermatitis enteropathica(AE) which starts in early infancy after weaning is a rare hereditary chronic disorder of zinc absorption. AE is characterized by alopecia, diarrhea and skin lesions localized to periorificial areas and acrally on the extremities. However, recent reports presented Transient Symptomatic Zinc Deficiency(TSZD) in preterm infants. TSZD is clinically similar to AE and skin lesions rapidly heals after zinc supplementation. When the treatment was withheld, no recurrence was seen. We experienced a TSZD case in a cow's milk fed, preterm infant, so We report it with a brief review of literature.

Annals of Dermatology 1995;7(1):39-44
BACKGROUND: Evening primrose oil(EPO) is a rich source of cis-linoleic acid and gammalinolenic acid(GLA) and has been used as a therapeutic agent in various skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the suppressive effect of EPO on murine contact sensitivity. METHODS: BALB/c mice were divided into 3 groups, positive control, experimental and negative control groups: the positive control group represents a group of mice which were sensitized and challenged with DNFB, the experimental group represents EPO-pretreated positive control group and the negative control group represents a group of mice which were challenged only. The changes of ear thickness were measured, and H & E staining and immunohistochemical staining for ICAM-1 expression of ear skin were performed to evaluate the histological changes of each group. RESULTS: The Pretreatment of mice with EPO resulted in suppression of contact sensitivity by more than 82%. On H & E staining, only a mild inflammatory reaction was observed in the dermis. Also ICAM-1 expression of keratinocytes, the intensity of the staining was significantly decreased in the experimental group compared with positive group. CONCLUSIONS: Our study indicates that EPO was able to suppress the induction of contact sensitivity.
