Korean Journal of Dermatology 1971;9(3):23-30
Extramammary Paget's disease is a dermatosis which pathologically and clinically resembles Paget's disease of the breast. The disease occurs in regions with apocrine gIands; most often in the anogenital area, seldom in the axilla. umbilicus, mucous membrane of the mouth, nose, ear and Moll's gland of tne eyelid. In this work the effect of bleomycin for extramammary Paget's disease was studied on ultrastructural aspect. The material was a case of extramammary Paget's disease of 7 years standing occuring in the scrotum and the pubic area by serial sections after IV injection of 60mg, 120mg and 240mg of bleomycin, and examined under the electron microscope. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The size of Paget's cell and its nucleus was gradually decreased. 2. The numbers of lysosome, dense body, autophagic vacuolization and tonofilament was decreased. From these fidings, it is suggested that bleomycin induces retrograde degenerative change of Pagct's cell, and cell necrosis finally.

The authors introduced flip back spin echo (FBSE) technique for MR imaging of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) instead of conventional spin echo (SE) technique, and evaluated whether FBSE technique in MRI of TMJ is adequate for the diagnosis of the disorders or not. FBSE T1 parasagittal images in closed mouth state and sequential opening and closing mouth states using patient's own finger(s) were obtained and then FBSE T1 paracoronal image in closed mouth state and STAGE(short tip angle gradient echo) parasagittal T2WI were followed. All 30 images of the symptomatic TMJs using FBSE technique were excellent in the visualization of articular and their displacement, and we could easily diagnose the internal derangement. FBSE technique was adequate for the diagnosis of internal derangement of the TMJ, and the modified cine display from images using FBSE technique was advantageous in the diagnosis of the disorders by visualization of the dynamic motion of the TMJ.

A case or right occipital lobe infarction initially detected by the visual field examination and confirmed with the computerized tomography is presented. Reduction of significance of visual field test for identification of intracranial lesion as, the initial diagnostic procedure after the orientation of computerized tomography is unlikely. An occipital lobe lesion developed following posterior cerebral artery thrombosis has introd uced silgnificant ophthalmic symptom, namey, visual field defect, diplopia, ipsilateral ocular pain, visual hallucination, photophobia, and Anton's syndrom, etc. A characteristic feature of left homonymous hemianopsia with macular sparing due to right posterior cerebral artery thromb osis is demonstrated.

5.Cytotoxic Neoflavonoids and Chalcones from the Heartwood of Dalbergia melanoxylon
Natural Product Sciences 2022;28(3):115-120
Ten compounds, consisting of neoflavonoids (1-5), isoflavonoids (6 and 7), flavanone (8), and chalcones (9 and 10) were isolated from the ethyl acetate and n-butanol-soluble fractions of the heartwood of Dalbergia melanoxylon. The chemical structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic evidence and compared to previously reported spectra. Compounds 1-10 were evaluated for cytotoxicity against HCT116 human colorectal cancer, MDA-MB-231 human metastatic breast cancer, and A2058 human melanoma cell lines. Among them, compounds 3 and 10 showed the strongest cytotoxic activity with IC 50 values of 11.92 ± 1.07 μM, 10.83 ± 1.02 μM, and 14.37 ± 1.02 μM, 13.62 ± 1.09 μM against HCT116 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines, respectively. Compounds 9 and 10 also had cytotoxic activity with IC 50 values of 13.49 ± 1.18 μM and 9.82 ± 0.91 μM against A2058 cell lines, respectively. To the best our knowledge, compounds 2 and 5-10 were isolated from this source for the first time.

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis(ABPA) is an inflammatory disease which causes a hypersensitivity to Aspergillus spores growing in the bronchi. The clinical syndrome is characterized by asthma, recurrent pulmonary infiltrations or mucoid impaction, eosinophilia, and central bronchiectasis. A 12-year-old boy was admitted to our hospital because of right lower chest pain and cystic mass-like shadows on a chest X-ray film. He had asthma as an infant, but had no asthmatic symptoms on admission. Chest CT scan showed low density cystic mass of the right lower lobe. The total eosinophil count and IgE level were abnormally high. Test for immediate skin reaction to Aspergillus fumigatus was positive but precipitating antibody to Aspergillus antigen was negative. After steroid treatment, he became asymptomatic. Radiologic abnormalities including mass-like shadows were resolved by two months after the start of treatment and a follow-up high resolution CT scan obtained after clinical improvement revealed central saccular bronchiectasis. We report one case of ABPA with review of literature.

7.Induction of Apoptosis with Moringa oleifera Fruits in HCT116 Human Colon Cancer Cells Via Intrinsic Pathway.
Natural Product Sciences 2017;23(4):227-234
Moringa oleifera Lam (M. oleifera, Moringaceae) is a tree of the Moringaceae family that can reach a height of between 5 and 10 m. The current paper presents cytotoxic effect of M. oleifera fruits and its flavonoids 1 and 2. The viability of HCT116 human colon cancer cells were 38.5% reduced by 150 µg/mL of ethanolic extracts in a concentration-dependent manner; in addition, we observed the apoptotic features of cell shrinkage and decreased cell size. Bcl-2 family proteins were regulated as determined by Western blotting analysis, suggesting that M. oleifera fruits and their flavonoids 1 and 2 induced apoptosis through an intrinsic pathway. Based on our findings, 70% ethanolic extracts of M. oleifera fruits and flavonoids 1 and 2 might be useful as cytotoxic agents in colorectal cancer therapy.

We report a case of polycythemia vera combined with coagulation disorder. The patient was 54 years old man who complained of continuous bleeding after incision of skin abscess 20days ago. Laboratory tests were revealed prolonged aPTT and slightly prolonged PT. Coagulation factor, I, VIII, IX, XI and fibrinogen decreased, however FDP did not increased. It appears that patient with polycythemia vera have chronic activation of coagulation system, probably initiated by activation of factor XII. Platelet aggregation test to ADP, collagen, epinephrine was also revealed poor response.

9.Induction of Apoptosis with Kigelia africana fruits in HCT116 Human Colon Cancer Cells via MAPKs Signaling Pathway.
Natural Product Sciences 2016;22(3):209-215
Kigelia africana (Lam.) Benth. (Bignoniaceae) is a flowering plants in South, Central and West Africa and commonly known as the sausage tree (Eng.); worsboom (Afr.); umVunguta, umFongothi (Zulu); Modukguhlu (North Sotho); Muvevha (Venda). The dried, powdered fruits are used as dressing for wounds and ulcers, haemorrhoids, rheumatism, purgative, skin-firming, lactation in breast-feeding mothers. The aim of this study is to investigate the cytotoxic and apoptotic potentials of 70% ethanolic extracts of Kigelia africana fruits in HCT116 human colon cancer cells. Treatment of Kigelia africana fruits with various concentrations resulted in a sequence of characteristic of apoptosis, including loss of cell viability and morphological changes. Flow cytometry analysis showed Kigelia africana fruits increased the sub-G1 phase (apoptosis) population. Apoptosis confirmed by annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate and propidium iodide double staining in HCT116 human colon cancer cell lines. Moreover, analysis of the mechanism indicated that Kigelia africana fruits showed an increased Bax and Bcl-2 expressions in a dose-dependent manner, resulting in activation of hallmarks of apoptotic events, caspase-3, caspase-9 and cleaved poly-ADP-ribose polymerase. This is the first report to demonstrate the cytotoxicity of Kigelia africana fruits on HCT116 human colon cancer cells.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1982;23(3):793-797
A case of retinoblastoma and Coats' disease in the same eye is presented. Coexisitence of the retinoblastoma and Coats' disease is very rarely seen, though the retinoblastoma or the Coats' disease are not uncommon diseases. After the enucleatIon under the clinical diagnosis of retinoblastoma, the careful histopathological study disclosed the unusual findings of a typical Coats' disease containing predominent telangiectasis adjacent to the undifferentiated retinoblastoma cell mass. Differentiation of Coats' disease to the so-called Coats' reaction associated with a certain retinal disorders is emphasized on the histological view point.
