Objective To analyze the metabolic profile of children with dyskinetic cerebral palsy by metabolomics, and its abnormal metabolic pathway. Methods The serum of 10 children with dyskinetic cerebral palsy (patient group) and 7 healthy children (control group) aged 6 to 12 years were collected at clinic from May to August, 2014. The serum samples were tested by the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer and the spectroscopies were discriminated by partial least squares-discriminant analysis. According to the human metabolome database, the final metabolites disturbed would be figured out. Results 15 chemical shifts were defined, and 6 of them, including 2.04 ppm, 2.12 ppm, 3.00 ppm, 3.24 ppm, 3.76 ppm, 6.50 ppm, were significantly different between 2 groups (P<0.05). The KEGG Pathway Database showed that the levels of taurine, fumarate, oxaloacete, pyruvate, citrate, aspartate, succinate, malate, cysteine decreased, and the levels of glutamate, 2-oxoglutarate, glutamine, leucine, alanine increased. The abnormal metabolism was found in taurine metabolism, glutamine me-tabolism and energy metabolism pathways. Conclusion Based on metabolomics, the metabolic profile of children with dyskinetic cerebral palsy was discriminated out successfully. The further research can focus on the small molecules found out.

Radiofrequency thermocoagulation (RFT) of the gasserian ganglion is a routine and effective technique for the treatment of classical trigeminal neuralgia (CTN). In this study we compared its efficacy in patients with CTN and atypically symptomatic or mixed trigeminal neuralgia (MTN). Fifty-seven patients were treated with RFT for trigeminal neuralgia from June 2006 to February 2009. Thirty patients had CTN, and 27 had MTN. Outcomes were measured by using the visual analog pain scale (VAS) and patients' reports of quality of life (QOL), medication usage, and complications over a follow-up period of up to 3 years. Our results showed that the patients with MTN were younger, tended to have bilaterial involvement of the first division, and were unresponsive to treatment. All surgeries were completed smoothly. About 86.7% CTN patients and 48.1% MTN patients responded immediately to RFT. The VAS scores were significantly higher in the CTN group than in MTN group (P<0.05). Kaplan-Meier curves showed that 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year pain relief rates were 76.7%, 73.3%, and 73.3% in the CTN group and 46.6%, 41.4%, and 41.4% in the MTN group, respectively. The rates of pain relief for both groups leveled off at 2 years. Complications included numbness, dysesthesia, and anesthesia dolorosa. RFT did not cause any deaths and complications were low. The treatment was very effective for CTN and, to some degrees, effective for MTN. If numbness, dysesthesia, and anesthesia dolorosa are limited to the trigger area, QOL will be greatly improved.

Background and purpose:In preparation for using this tracer in humans, this study estimated thedosimetry of18F-FES with the method established by MIRD based on whole-body PET imaging of mice. Methods:Three female mice receivedⅣ tail injections of18F-FES and were scanned for 160 min in an Inveon dedicated PET/CT scanner. This study selected some important organs (brain, lung, liver, heart wall, small intestine, large intestine, kidney and urinary bladder), computed their residence times. Then, the residence times in mice organs were converted to human values using scale factors based on differences between organ and body weights. OLINDA/EXM 1.1 software was used to compute the absorbed human doses in multiple organs for both adult female and adult male body phantoms. Results:The highest absorbed doses in gallbladder wall, urinary bladder wall, small intestine, upper large intestine and liver are 0.072 5, 0.044 5, 0.043 0, 0.031 5 and 0.028 2 mGy/MBq, respectively. The organs which have the lowest ab-sorbed doses were brain (0.005 2 mGy/MBq), followed by skin (0.001 1 mGy/MBq), breast (0.001 1 mGy/MBq), heart wall (0.001 2 mGy/MBq) and thyroid (0.001 2 mGy/MBq). The mean absorbed doses for the other major organs ranged from 0.009 5 to 0.023 5 mGy/MBq. The total mean effective dose is 0.019 0 mSv/MBq and the mean effective doses equivalent is 0.025 0 mGy/MBq. A 370-MBq injection of18F-FES leads to an estimated effective dose of 7.03 mSv for the female. There was no statistical difference in the doses results obtained from direct measurement of18F-FES ab-sorption in normal people between previous publications by others and our work. Conclusion:The whole-body mouse imaging can be used as a preclinical tool for initial estimation of the absorbed doses of18F-FES in humans. Furthermore, the potential radiation risk associated with18F-FES imaging is well within the accepted limits.

BACKGROUND: Fibular fixation and tantalum rod implantation are two commonly used methods for the treatment of early osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), both of which can effectively delay or even reverse the progress of ONFH. However, further comparative evaluation on their mechanical properties and therapeutic efficacy is required.OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical efficacy of fibular fixation and tantalum rod implantation on ONFH at early stage.METHODS: Fifty-eight patients (81 hips) suffered from ONFH with ARCO stage 1 and stage 2, and underwent fibular fixation (30 cases, 41 hips) or tantalum rod implantation (28 cases, 40 hips). Postoperatively, both groups were followed up for over 2 years. The Harris scores of the hip were compared between two groups before and after treatment. With femoral head collapse and the collapse distance > 4 mm as observation points, the survival rate of the femoral head was compared between two groups.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The postoperative Harris scores of the two groups were significantly improved than before (P < 0.05). With the appearance of femoral head collapse as the observation point, the Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed that the overall survival rate of the hip was 83% in the fibular fixation group and 65% in the tantalum rod implantation group. After examined by log-rank (Mantel-Cox), there was a significant difference in the survival rate of the hip at Stage IIC between two groups (P=0.0431). With > 4 mm collapse as the observation point, the Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed that overall survival rate of the hip was 95% in the fibular fixation group and 83% in the tantalum rod implantation group. After examined by log-rank (Mantel-Cox), there was a significant difference in the survival rate of the hip at Stage IIC between two groups (P=0.0418). To conclude, both fibular fixation and tantalum rods implantation applied to ONFH at early stage can effectively improve the hip function, and the survival rate of the hip at ARCO Stage IIC is better in patients undergoing fibular fixation than tantalum rod implantation.
