1.Two tooth preparation methods to make glass fiber splints for stabilizing loose front teeth:A 5-year clinical observation
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2013;(42):7487-7493
BACKGROUND:Studies have found that the glass fiber splint which is embedded into the groove on the lingual surface of the affected tooth plus fluid resin fixation between the gap of mobile teeth can achieve more satisfactory clinical effects on the stabilization of loose front teeth.
OBJECTIVE:To observe the clinical effects of glass fiber splints prepared using two tooth preparation methods on splinting loose front teeth and their debonding rate through a 5-year fol ow-up visit.
METHODS:Ninety-four chronic periodontal disease patients, who had received periodontal treatment, were enrol ed in this study for their loose front teeth of degree II-III. Al the enrol ed patients were good candidates for periodontal splinting strictly in accordance with the indications for periodontal splinting. According to whether the fluid resin was used to seal the gap between the mobile teeth, the 96 patients were divided into two groups:patients undergoing glass fiber splint+fluid resin between the mobile teeth served as experimental group, and those only undergoing glass fiber splint as control group. Al the patients were fol owed by regular clinical referral or telephone fol ow-up for 5 year, to evaluate the fixed effects.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:During the 5 years of regular clinical referral or telephone fol ow-up, seven of the 76 cases and 12 of the 18 cases were found in the experimental and control groups, respectively, to have debonding between the abutment and the splint. Compared with the control group, the probing depth and attachment loss of affected teeth were improved significantly (P<0.05), and the percentage of alveolar bone height accounting for the root length increased significantly in the experimental group (P<0.05) after 5 years of fol ow-up. Patients in the experimental group felt comfortable without foreign body sensation. The results confirmed that the glass fiber splinting plus fluid resin fixation between the gap of mobile teeth was a better treatment for loose front teeth during the 5-year fol ow-up.

3.Immunoregulatory effect of multipotent stem cells in liver injury and repair
Journal of Clinical Hepatology 2014;30(9):855-859
Immunological imbalance is the foundation for the development of liver damage or fibrosis. Therefore, the treatment of liver disea-ses not only relies on regenerative medicine for cellular replacement, but also depends on immunoregulation. The immunological basis of liver injury and repair, the immunological basis of multipotent stem cells for allograft, and the research advances in the immunoregulatory effect of stem cells in the treatment of liver diseases demonstrated that multipotent stem cells, especially mesenchymal stem cells, have low immuno-genicity and cause immunosuppression, with the immunological basis of allograft;in addition, they can improve the local immune microenvi-ronment of the liver by immunoregulation to reduce the liver injury caused by immune response. It is suggested that multipotent stem cells, which meet the requirements of cellular replacement and immunoregulation in the liver, will become an ideal treatment of liver diseases.

Journal of International Oncology 2013;(1):12-15
Progestagen-associated endometrial protein (PAEP) gene mainly expresses in the secretory phase endometrium and decidua in early trimester of pregnancy. In recent years,it is reported that PAEP is abnormally expressed in many kinds of tumors, such as breast cancer, endometrial carcinoma, ovary cancer, stomach cancer and melanoma.PAEP gene plays an important role in tumorigenesis and tumor development. The application of PAEP gene as an indicator for clinical diagnosis, prognostic and therapy needs further studies on the influence of PAEP gene on tumor biological behaviour.

BACKGROUND: Studies about the mechanism of laser occlusion on the varicose great saphenous vein are rare.OBJECTIVE: To explore the ultrastructural changes of the great varicose saphnous vein after it was occluded with laser.DESIGN: An observational study.SETTING: Laser Department of the General Hospital of Chinese PLA .PARTICI PANTS: There were 42 patients with varicose great saphenous veins that were occluded with laser in clinic of the General Hospital of Chinese PLA from January to April 2004. The inclusive criteria: There must be obvious vein tangles beneath the undystrophic skin at ankle without apparent thrombus inside the vein. The patients involved should be voluntary to take part in the study. Finally 9 patients were enrolled in this study.INTERVENTION: The great saphenous vein was intravenously occluded with laser of 810 nm and the working power was 12 W and the exposure time was 1 s. The occluded vein sample was taken out 3 hours after the occlusion.MAINOUTCOME MEASURES: The ultrastrncture of the occluded vein was observed histopathologically. Normal vein and prereatment varicose vein served as control.RESULTS: The normal vein wall can be divided into 3 layers: the internal layer was composed of the simple endothelial cells; the median layer was composed of the smooth muscle cells, elastic fibers and collagenous fibers; the external layer was composed of the loose connective tissues. However, the internal layer of the varicose vein was incomplete, and the endothelial cells were loosely connected. The smooth muscle cells became hyperplasic, hypertrophic or atrophic. The elastic fibers decreased in number in contrast to the increase of collagenous fibers. After laser occlusion, in the vein lumen there was a large number of blood cells. The platelets became flattened with pseudopods and adhered to collagenous fibers. The endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells near the lumen were damaged and the cytoplasma leaked and fused with extracellular matrix. Broken collagenous and elastic fibers could be seen near the lumen and some were observed in the lumen. There was no structure change in the external layer and adjacent elastic fibers and collagenous fibers.CONCLUSION: Laser occlusion damaged the internal layer and part of median layer of the varicose vein, caused aggregation of the blood cells in the lumen and promoted the adhesion of platelets to vein walls.

Objective To summarize the clinical experience of minimally invasive treatment (sclerosing therapy, intravascular intervention, laser coagulation, etc) for Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (K-TS). Methods A total of 32 patients with K-TS were treated in this hospital from February 1989 to November 2004. Vascular embolization was used in patients with abnormal arteriovenous fistula or abnormal collateral arterial pathway. The insufficient valves of the deep veins were minimally invasively repaired. Laser coagulation was utilized for treating bulky varicosities. For angiomas and engorged venous plexus of the limbs, the sclerosing agent was injected. Results Varicosis, including reticular venous dilation, subsided completely. Angiography revealed an immediate disappearance of arteriovenous fistula and abnormal blood supply of the femur. The enlargement of involved limbs was diminished gradually. The angioma became completely sclerous, disappeared or decreased in size, without dwindling under pressure. In patients with venous valve reconstruction, Doppler ultrasonography showed no reflux. Follow-up for 1~7 years (mean, years) in all the 32 patients found no recurrence. Conclusions Minimally invasive treatment, including intravascular intervention, laser coagulation, sclerosing agent injection, mini-incision valve repair and so on, is effective for the management of Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome.

AIM: To compare the quality of Liuwei Dihuang Pill among the pharmaceutical companies by determining the content and the dissolution of paeonol of Liuwei Dihuang Pill. METHODS: A method of determining paeonol and the dissolution from Liuwei Dihuang Pill was establishod. HPLC was used with methanol-water (70 ∶30) as a mobile phase and detection wavelength was at 274 nm. The flow rate was 1.0 mLmin, injection volume was 20 ?L. The percentage of dissolution was determined in the 30% methanol- 0.1 mol1 HCL solution. RESULTS: A good linearity was over the weight range of 1.4 ?g-140 ?g, the average recovery was 97.38% , the RSD for reproducibility was 1.44% (n=6). The parameter of Tianjin’s production was T_ 50 = 156.77 , T_d= 256.55 ,M= 0.734 and the parameter of Beijing’s production was T_ 50 = 110.66 , T_d= 197.19 , M= 0.583 . CONCLUSION: The method is simple, and can be used to determine the content and the percentage of dissolution of paeonol in Liuwei Dihuang Pill. The experiment indicates that the percentage of dissolution has no obvious distinction in products from different manufactures; but has obvious distinction in the batches of same manufacture.

Chinese Journal of Analytical Chemistry 2010;38(3):425-428
A method was developed for the determination of sodium caprylate in human serum albumin by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography(RP-HPLC) after pre-column derivatization. The caprylic acid, extracted from human serum albumin by hexane, was treated with ω-bromoacetophenone and 18-crown-6 for 30 min at 50 ℃, and analyzed on a Nova-Park C_(18)(150 mm×3.9 mm, 4 μm) column with methanol-water(75∶ 25, V/V) as the mobile phase. The internal standard was enanthic acid, the flow rate was 1.0 mL/min and the detection wavelength was 262 nm. The extraction yield of caprylic acid was 97.9% and that of enanthic acid was 98.2%. The linear range of sodium caprylate was 9.00×10~(-4)-1.44×10~(-2) mol/L(r=0.9995). The average recovery of caprylic acid was 99.7%, RSD was less than 0.9%. The present method is reliable and relatively simple and can be used for the determination of sodium caprylate in human serum albumin.
