Objective: To understand the prevalence of alcohol drinking in 20-79 years old males with different educational backgrounds and smoking behaviors in different areas of China. Methods: A multi-stage cluster random sampling survey was conducted in 150 surveillance sites in 2010-2012 Chinese nutrition and health surveillance in China. At least 1 000 subjects were selected in each surveillance site. Alcohol drinking prevalence and pattern information were collected by using personal health and food frequency questionnaire in face to face interviews. Results: A total of 60 791 males aged 20-79 years were surveyed. The prevalence of alcohol drinking was 57.8% (58.3% in rural area, 57.3% in urban area). The mean daily alcohol intake level was 32.7 g (33.3 g in rural area, 32.1 g in urban area). The rate of almost drinking every day and daily alcohol intake level were highest among males aged 50-59 years. Mean daily alcohol intake level, rate of almost drinking every day and excessive drinking decreased with the increase of education level. Non-smokers had higher rate of never drinking and lower prevalence of drinking and excessive drinking, lower mean daily alcohol intake level, and lower rate of almost drinking every day compared with current and past smokers. Conclusions: Alcohol drinking was common in males aged 20-79 years in China, and, the difference was not obvious between rural residents and urban residents. The differences in daily intake level of different alcohol drinks among males with different characteristics had certain significance. Significant difference in excessive drinking was found among different age groups, those with different education levels and those with different smoking history.

Objective: To understand the prevalence of alcohol drinking and influencing factors in female adults in China. Methods: At the 150 survey sites where 2010-2012 Chinese nutrition and health surveillance was conducted, a face to face questionnaire survey was conducted in female adults selected through multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling. Sample weights was assigned to each participant based on the study design by using national population census data in 2009. The complex sampling and unconditional multivariate logistics regression analysis was conducted to identify the influencing factors for the prevalence of alcohol drinking in the female adults. Results: A total of 75 518 participants were included in this study. The prevalence of drinking in female adults was 13.9% (95%CI: 11.7-16.2) in urban area and 13.3% (95%CI: 9.4-17.2) in rural area. The prevalence of frequent drinking was 13.9% (95%CI: 9.9-17.9) in women in urban area and 14.2% (95%CI: 10.8-17.6) in women in rural area. The prevalence of excessive drinking was 11.1% (95%CI: 7.5-14.8) in women in urban area and 12.8% (95%CI: 9.1-16.4) in women in rural area. The prevalence of wine drinking in women in urban area was significantly higher than in women in rural and had positive correlation with income and education levels. The social and economic factors influencing drinking behavior of the female adults included occupation, drinking behaviors of family members and smoking behavior. Those who were engaged in agriculture, production and transportation (OR=0.72, 95%CI: 0.56-0.94, P=0.016), housework (OR=0.59, 95%CI: 0.44-0.78, P<0.001) and other work (OR=0.61, 95%CI: 0.43-0.85, P=0.004) had lower drinking prevalence. Whereas those whose family members had drinking behavior (OR=2.66, 95%CI: 2.17-3.26, P<0.001) and those who were current smokers (OR=4.32, 95%CI: 2.95-6.34, P<0.01) had higher drinking prevalence. Conclusions: The prevalence of drinking, frequent alcohol drinking and excessive drinking were relatively low in female adults in China. Occupation, drinking behaviors of family members and smoking behavior were the main factors influencing the prevalence drinking behavior in female adults in China.

In this paper, an improved back-projection algorithm of dynamic electrical impedance tomography (EIT) was described. The improved back-projection algorithm modified the computing method of back-projection matrix B. Dynamic reconstruction image was obtained by the improved algorithm, and it was compared to the image obtained by the traditional method of equi-potential back-projection. The results showed that the improved algorithm of equi-potential back-projection could locate the object's position in the field with higher precision, and its speed was very fast. It also could improve the resolution of the reconstructed image in some extent.

Objective: To explore the relationship between meat consumption and metabolic syndrome (MS) in Chinese adults aged ≥18 years. Methods: The data were obtained from 2010- 2012 National Nutrition and Health Survey. A total of 34 923 subjects who completed the dietary survey, the physical examination and had the testing results of blood sugar and blood lipid levels were enrolled in this study. MS was defined according to the diagnostic criteria of China Diabetes Society 2013. The prevalence ratios of MS and each form of MS and related 95%CI were calculated after post stratification weight according to the population data (2009) released by the national bureau of statistics. Results: The average meat intake among subjects was 94.8 g/d. People who had meat consumption between 100 g/d and 199 g/d had the lowest prevalence of MS, abdominal obesity and hyperglycemia. As the meat consumption increased, the prevalence of MS in men increased. Men who had meat consumption of ≥300 g/d had a higher risk of MS than those who had low level of meat consumption, with prevalence ratio equaled to 1.46 (95%CI: 1.14~1.87). Similar trend was not observed in women. Conclusion: Moderate intake of meat is associated with reduced risk of MS in Chinese adults.

OBJECTIVE：To prelimi narily investigate the possible mechanism of orazamide to prevent anti-tuberculosis drug-induced liver injury （ATB-DILI）. METHODS ：A total of 60 Kunming mice were randomly divided into blank group ，model group，positive control group [diammonium glycyrrhizinate 60 mg/（kg·d）]，orazamide low-dose ，medium-dose and high-dose groups [ 80，160，320 mg/（kg·d）]，with 10 mice in each group. Except for blank group ，other groups were given isoniazid [ 75 mg/（kg·d）]+rifampicin [ 75 mg/（kg·d）] for 14 days intragastrically to induce ATB-DILI model. At the same time ，administration groups were given relevant medicine intragastrically ，blank group and model group were given normal saline intragastrically. The administration volume was 20 mL/（kg·d），once a day ，for consecutive 14 days. The general conditions of the mice were observed and recorded every day ，such as growth and development ，mental and diet state. After last medication ，liver index was calculated ， and HE staining was adopted to observe pathological changes of liver tissue of mice. The positive expression of high mobility group protein B 1 （HMGB1） and NF-κ B in liver tissue were detected by streptavidin biotin-peroxidase complex （SABC） immuno- histochemistry. The serum levels of liver function indexes in serum ，the protein expression of advanced glycation end product receptor（RAGE）and TNF-α in liver tissue were detected by ELISA. RESULTS：Compared with blank group ，the growth and development of mice in the model group were slow ，and their appetite and spirit were poor. The liver index ，serum levels of TBIL ， DBIL，ALT，AST，ALP，TBA and γ-GT were increased significantly （P＜0.05）. Structural disorder of liver lobules ，degeneration and necrosis of liver cells and inflammatory cell infiltration were observed. The expression of HMGB 1，NF-κB，RAGE and TNF-α in liver tissue were elevated significantly （P＜0.05）. Compared with model group ，the general condition of mice were all improved to different extents in orazamide low-dose ，medium-dose and high-dose groups ，positive control group ，while liver index and above serum indexes were all decreased significantly （P＜0.05）. The pathological changes of liver tissue were all improved to different extents ，while the protein expression of HMGB 1，NF-κB，RAGE and TNF-α were all decreased significantly（P＜0.05）. The improvement of above indexes in orazamide high-dose group were all significantly better than orazamide low-dose and medium-dose groups （P＜0.05）；the levels of ALP and TBA in orazamide high-dose group were significantly lower than positive control group （P＜0.05）. CONCLUSIONS ：Orazamide can prevent ATB-DILI induced by isoniazid combined with rifampicin in mice，the mechanism of which may be associated with down-regulating the protein expression of HMGB 1 and RAGE in liver tissue and inhibiting the secretion of inflammatory factors.

Collagen induced arthritis (CIA)is an animal model that in many ways resembles rheumatoid arthritis (RA). CIA can be induced in susceptible animals by immunization with type II collagen (CII). Like RA,CIA is characterized by intense joint inflammation and destruction.On histological examination,there is synovitis accompanied by erosion of cartilage and subchondral bone. Autoanti-bodies to CII initiate joint inflammation by binding to articular cartilage,forming antigen-antibody complexes locally and activating hemolytic complement. Susceptibility to CIA in mice is linked to the expression of specific class II MHC Molecules,which dictate the T cell determinants on CII,and therefore,the subsets of T cells that can be activated by CII.In addition to activation of B cells reactive to CII,the T cells stimulate monocytes/macrophages.These cells amplify the inflammatory cascade by secretion of proinflammatory monokines, including TNF-alpha and IL-1,leading to the production of other proinflammatory proteins,including matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs).The importance of CIA lies in its possible relationship to arthritis in humans.Progress in understanding CIA has contributed to the development of new therapies for RA.In addition,it has been found that mice with human HLA-DR1,DR4 and HLA-DQ8 transgenes,which have been demonstrated to be the susceptibility markers for RA, confer susceptibility to CIA.These observations coupled with the finding of T cells and B cells reactive with CII in the inflamed joints of RA patients establish the potential role of CII autoimmunity in the pathogenesis of RA.

PURPOSE: The authors investigated the effect of lumbar facet tropism (FT) on intervertebral disc degeneration (DD), facet joint degeneration (FJD), and segmental translational motion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using kinetic MRI (KMRI), lumbar FT, which was defined as a difference in symmetry of more than 7degrees between the orientations of the facet joints, was investigated in 900 functional spinal units (300 subjects) in flexion, neutral, and extension postures. Each segment at L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1 was assessed based on the extent of DD (grade I-V) and FJD (grade 1-4). According to the presence of FT, they were classified into two groups; one with FT and one with facet symmetry. For each group, demographics, DD, FJD and translational segmental motion were compared. RESULTS: The incidence of FT was 34.5% at L3-L4, 35.1% at L4-L5, and 35.2% at L5-S1. Age and gender did not show any significant relationship with FT. Additionally, no correlation was observed between DD and FT. FT, however, wasfound to be associated with a higher incidence of highly degenerated facet joints at L4-L5 when compared to patients without FT (p < 0.01). Finally, FT was not observed to have any effects upon translational segmental motion. CONCLUSION: No significant correlation was observed between lumbar FT and DD or translational segmental motion. However, FT was shown to be associated significantly with the presence of high grades of FJD at L4-L5. This suggests that at active sites of segmental motion, FT may predispose to the development of facet joint degeneration.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of intact canal wall mastoidectomy and tympanoplasty in treating patients with cholesteatoma of the middle ear and mastoid. METHOD: Fifty-seven patients underwent intact canal wall mastoidectomy and tympanoplasty. RESULT: In all cases who had been followed up for 1-8 years, 5 ears were infected, 2 patients needed second operation, and 3 ears suffered from cholesteatoma recurrence. Tympanic membrane of 29 ears kept integrity although with pocket retraction to some extent. Extrusion of the prosthesis occurred in 2 cases. The postoperative audiometric measurement (the average hearing threshold at 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 kHz HL) was improved by more than 10 dB HL in 39 ears (72.2%), the mean air bone gap (ABG) of 29 ears was reduced to less than 20 dB HL. CONCLUSION Intact canal wall technique could remain anatomical structure and improve hearing effectually in treating the patients with cholesteatoma in the middle ear and mastoid.

The use of opioid analgesics has a long history in clinical settings, although the functions of opioid receptors, especially their role in the brain, are not well understood yet. Recent studies have generated abundant new data on opioid receptor-mediated functions and the underlying mechanisms. The most exciting finding in the past decade is probably the neuroprotection against hypoxic/ischemic stress mediated by delta-opioid receptors (DOR). An up-regulation of DOR expression and the release of endogenous opioids may increase neuronal tolerance to hypoxic/ischemic stress. The DOR signal triggers, depending on stress duration and severity, different mechanisms at multiple levels to preserve neuronal survival, including the stabilization of ionic homeostasis, an increase in pro-survival signaling (e.g., PKC-ERK-Bcl 2) and the enhanced anti-oxidative capacity. Recent data on DOR-mediated neuroprotection provide us a new concept of neuroprotection against neurological disorders and have a potentially significant impact on the prevention and treatment of some serious neurological conditions, such as stroke.
