6.A Case of Malignant Meningioma Presented with Intracerebral Hemorrhage.

The authors report a case of malignant meningioma presented with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH). The 65-year-old woman presented with sudden severe headache and vomiting. She suffered from diabetes mellitus and hypertension for 3 years. Neurologic examination showed left hemiparesis and homonymous hemianopsia. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance images revealed hematoma in variable stages with surrounding edema in right parieto-occipital area. Cerebral angiogrpahy showed no vascular lesion. Under the impression of hypertensive ICH, total removal of mass was done. Histologic diagnosis was malignant meningioma with hemorrhage. Malignant meningioma presented with ICH is lacking in previous report. Prtinent literature review of meningioma presenting with hemorrhage is also performed.

7.Peripheral Facial Palsy after Dental Procedure

Peripheral facial palsy is often reported after surgery for head or neck tumors and otolaryngologic surgery, but the occurrence of facial nerve palsy after dental procedures is very rare. A 29-year-old man visited our clinic with right-side facial asymmetry and right facial weakness 7 days before. The patient underwent dental treatment 8 days ago. He exhibited weakness of the right side of his face and was unable to close his right eye. He was diagnosed with right-sided peripheral type facial nerve paralysis and treated with an antiviral agent and prednisolone, and the symptoms gradually improved. Facial nerve palsies after dental procedures have been reported in foreign countries, but these cases have been very rarely reported in Korea. We also reported on the efficacy of the conventional treatment of facial nerve palsy after a dental procedure.
8.Parovarian cyst torsion at pregnancy 29+4 wks.

Adnexal torsion in the third trimester is very rare. Because of changes in uterine size and anatomical position of abdominal organs, the diagnosis of adnexal torsion during pregnancy is difficult to establish on the basis of symptoms, physical findings, or radiologic technique. Delayed diagnosis and management can lead to serious complications, so a rapid, reliable, and accurate imaging is needed to evaluate pregnant women with acute abdomen. Ultrasonography has been the initial imaging modality of choice in evaluation of obstetric patient, but it is technically difficult in the third trimester. MR imaging can provide a broad evaluation of the pelvic organs and enables diagnosis of many causes of acute abdomen, especially in the third trimester. We have experienced a case of Parovarian cyst torsion at pregnancy 29+4 wks and reviewed it briefly.

9.Myocardial Contrast Defect Associated with Thrombotic Coronary Occlusion: Pre-Autopsy Diagnosis of a Cardiac Death with Post-Mortem CT Angiography.

We report the case of a female who died of suspected acute myocardial infarction. Post-mortem CT angiography (PMCTA) was performed with intravascular contrast infusion before the standard autopsy, and it successfully demonstrated the complete thrombotic occlusion of a coronary artery and also a corresponding perfusion defect on myocardium. We herein describe the PMCTA findings of a cardiac death with special emphasis on the potential benefits of this novel CT technique in forensic practice.

10.Physicochemical characterization of porcine bone-derived grafting material and comparison with bovine xenografts for dental applications.

PURPOSE: The physicochemical properties of a xenograft are very important because they strongly influence the bone regeneration capabilities of the graft material. Even though porcine xenografts have many advantages, only a few porcine xenografts are commercially available, and most of their physicochemical characteristics have yet to be reported. Thus, in this work we aimed to investigate the physicochemical characteristics of a porcine bone grafting material and compare them with those of 2 commercially available bovine xenografts to assess the potential of xenogenic porcine bone graft materials for dental applications. METHODS: We used various characterization techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy, the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller adsorption method, atomic force microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and others, to compare the physicochemical properties of xenografts of different origins. RESULTS: The porcine bone grafting material had relatively high porosity (78.4%) and a large average specific surface area (SSA; 69.9 m²/g), with high surface roughness (10-point average roughness, 4.47 µm) and sub-100-nm hydroxyapatite crystals on the surface. Moreover, this material presented a significant fraction of sub-100-nm pores, with negligible amounts of residual organic substances. Apart from some minor differences, the overall characteristics of the porcine bone grafting material were very similar to those of one of the bovine bone grafting material. However, many of these morphostructural properties were significantly different from the other bovine bone grafting material, which exhibited relatively smooth surface morphology with a porosity of 62.0% and an average SSA of 0.5 m²/g. CONCLUSIONS: Considering that both bovine bone grafting materials have been successfully used in oral surgery applications in the last few decades, this work shows that the porcine-derived grafting material possesses most of the key physiochemical characteristics required for its application as a highly efficient xenograft material for bone replacement.
