2.A Study on the Relationship between Self-Efficacy and Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile of Childhood Obesity.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to offer basic data concerning the prevention of obesity for obese children to identify the relationship between their self-efficacy and the degree of performance on health promoting lifestyle profile. METHOD: The subjects were 148 fourth to sixth grade elementary school students in Gwang-ju, Korea during the period from September 10 to September 25, 2001. The collected data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression by using the SPSS program. RESULT: The relationship between general characteristics of subjects and self-efficacy were significant differences according to eating time(F=5.338, p=.006). The relationship between general characteristics of subjects and health promoting lifestyle profile were significant differences according to grade(F=5.615, p=.005), eating time(F=8.591, p=.000), concern about weight control(F=3.915, p=.022), experience of weight control(t=7.632, p=.006). Health promoting lifestyle profile was showed significant positive correlations with self-efficacy(r=.537, p=.000). Self-efficacy(27.6%) was the highest factor predictor health promoting lifestyle profile of obesity students. In addition to eating time, concern about weight control, explained for 33.3% in health promoting lifestyle profile. CONCLUSION: Results of this study point to self-dfficiency as a major factor in the health promoting behavior of childhood obesity. According to the results of this study, There is a reason to develop a health program to promote self-efficiency.

3.A Case of Acute Encephlopathy with Bilateral Thalamotegmental Involvement.

We experienced an unusual case of acute encephalopathy in a 4 month-old boy He was admitted to our hospital because of lethargy and seizures after preceding symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection a few days before admission. On admission, he was in semicomatous mental state with decorticated rigidity. Laboratory tests showed normal blood sugar, ammonia, and transaminase levels. CSF was acellular and sterile. Brain MRI in both 71 and 72 weighted-image showed high signal density in both thalami and caudate nucleus head. After recovery, neurologic sequales of developmental delay, mental retardation, right hemiplegia and seizure remained. We report a case of acute encephalopathy that have clinical course similar to Reye syndrome but have specific brain image.

4.Effects of an Interpersonal Relationship Improvement Program Using MBTI: Effects on Self-esteem, Interpersonal Relations, and Mental Health in Company Employees.

PURPOSE: In this study the effects of an interpersonal relationship improvement program using MBTI on self-esteem, interpersonal relations, and mental health of company employees were examined. METHODS: Forty-three company employees in G City participated in a survey, which was carried out from September 18 to October 30, 2009. To test the effects of the interpersonal relationship improvement program using MBTI, the company employees were divided into two groups, an experimental group (20) and a control group (23). The research design used in this study was a nonequivalent control group pre-posttest quasi-experimental research design. The research tools included a self-esteem scale and an interpersonal relations scale, and a mental health scale. x2 test and t-test were used to analyze the data with the SPSS/WIN 14.0 program. RESULTS: Significant differences were found in self-esteem scores, interpersonal relations scores, and in scores for obsessive compulsiveness in mental health between the experimental group and the control group. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the interpersonal relationship improvement program using MBTI is a useful nursing intervention for improving the self-esteem and interpersonal relations and decreasing obsessive-compulsiveness in the mental health of company employees.

5.Effects of a Group Counseling Integration Program on Self-determination and Internet Addiction in High School Students with Tendency to Internet Addiction.

PURPOSE: In this study the effects of a Group Counseling Integration Program for students with a tendency to internet addiction were examined. METHODS: Thirty-seven students who were in a vocational high school in G city participated in a survey, which was carried out from October 12 to November 12, 2009. To test the effects of the Group Counseling Integration Program, the participants were divided into two groups, an experimental group (18) and a control group (19). The research design used in this study was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized pre-posttest quasi-experimental research design. The research tools included a self-determination scale and an internet addiction scale. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test, t-test, and ANCOVA with the SPSS/WIN 14.0 program. RESULTS: Significant differences were found in self-determination scores and internet addiction scores between the experimental group and the control group (F=5.99, p=.020) (t=-2.53, p=.016). CONCLUSION: The results indicate that Group Counseling Integration Programs are an effective nursing intervention for improving self-determination and decreasing internet addiction in students with a tendency to internet addiction.

6.The Moderating Effect of Social Support on the Relationship between Emotional Labor and Nursing Performance in General Hospital

PURPOSE: The present study was conducted to determine the influence of social support on the relationship between emotional labor and nursing performance of general hospital nurses. METHODS: Data collection was conducted at three general hospitals in Jeollabuk-do from August 10 to 25, 2017. Collected questionnaires (188 nurses) were analyzed based on percentages, means, SD, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé, Pearson correlation analysis, and moderated regression analysis using SPSS Statistics 24.0 software. RESULTS: Social support was found to moderate the influence of nurses' emotional labor on nursing performance. That is, high level of social support can reduce the negative effect of emotional labor on nursing performance. CONCLUSION: Based on findings in the present study, it can be said that establishing positive organizational culture through harmonious social support at the work site is necessary to improve nursing performance. In addition, measures to effectively improve social support need to be explored and practiced at the work site. Efforts should be made to come up with strategies to properly cope with and overcome emotional labor. The results of this study suggest the scope for further research to identify additional variables that moderate or mediate the relationship between emotional labor and nursing performance.

Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of clinical competence and field adaptation on new nurses’ retention intention and to suggest strategies to improve their intention to stay.
Methods:
This study used a descriptive correlational design and was conducted from June 1 to July 20, 2023. A structured questionnaire was used, targeting new nurses with only 3 to 12 months of clinical experience. Data was collected through an online site used by nurses. The collected data were analyzed by frequency and percentage, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression. All analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0.
Results:
A total of 173 new nurses participated in this study. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the factors influencing retention intention of new nurses were field adaptation (β=.38, p<.001), professional pride as a reason for retention (β=.24, p=.003), and current salary of 2.5 to 3.0 million won (β=-.14, p=.049).
Conclusion
Hospitals and nursing education organizations need educational approaches that enhance the field adaptation and professional pride of new nurses so that they can be successfully retained in the workplace.
