PURPOSE: This study analyzed the degree of job stress and caffeine intake in workers in industrial positions in order to determine the relationships between job stress and caffeine intake. METHODS: For this purpose, this study conducted a survey targeting 361 blue collar workers working for K manufacturing company, Gwangju. RESULTS: The total score for job stress in subjects was 72.7 ± 6.8 points/100 points. According to job stress, subjects were categorized as follows: Q1 for the group who had the least stress; Q2 for the group who had little stress; Q3 for the group who had a lot of stress, and Q4 for the group who had the most stress. As for the effects of caffeine on health, 57.1% thought that caffeine is helpful and not harmful if taken properly while 17.3% responded that less caffeine consumption is better. Daily intake of caffeine according to stress was presented as: 172.0 ± 85.3 mg in Q1, 179.0 ± 83.7 mg in Q2, 187.9 ± 81.4 mg in Q3, and 214.2 ± 147.3 mg in Q4 (p < 0.05). The percentages of caffeine consumption compared to the daily safe limit in subjects were: 43.0 ± 21.3, 44.8 ± 20.9, 47.1 ± 20.4, and 53.6 ± 36.8% in Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4, respectively (p < 0.05). Adverse effects such as nausea or vomiting from caffeine were most common in Q4 (p < 0.05) CONCLUSION: As a result, higher stress in blue collar workers working for K manufacturing company was associated with more caffeine consumption. Groups with a lot of stress (Q4) consumed approximately 50% of daily safe limit of caffeine. Considering the results above, this study suggests that further research on more precise caffeine intake and its effects is needed.

The purpose of this study was to determine the predictors of health promoting behavior in postpartal 4-6 week women. the sample consisted of 104 postpartal women who experienced a vaginal delivery at four obstetrical clinics located in Kwangju city.fData were collected for two months from June 1 to July 30, 1997. analysis of the data was done by use of percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients, and Stepwise Multiple Regression. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1. The range of total HPLP score was from 93 to 182 and the mean score of that was 142.28. In comparison of mean scores defending on each item of six dimensions, self-actualization dimension tended to showed highest score(3.33) and exercise & rest dimension, the lowest score(2.47). 2. The HPLP score was not significantly different defending on the general characteristics. 3. The HPLP score showed a positive correlation with family-support(r=.51) and self-efficacy(r=.41), but a inverse correlation with perceived barriers(r=-.27). 4. By using stepwise multiple regression analysis it was determined that the main influencing fators on the HPLP score were family-support(26%) and self-efficacy(8%). these variables made it possible to explain 34% of variance in HPLP score.

This study was done to compare death orientation scores for student nurses before and after studying a major. The participants were 130 student nurses before the major and 123 student nurses after the major at C university in Kwang Ju city. The data were gathered from March, 1998 to September, 2001 using a questionnaire.The data were analysed by Chi square test, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients. The results of this study are summarized as follows; 1. The mean scores for death orientation before and after the major were 57.8 and 60.2 respectively. The mean score of death orientation after the major tended to be higher than before but they were not significantly different. 2. There were significant differences in death orientation scores between the two groups before the major for 'physical function (F=3.83, p=0.023)' and 'attending a lecture on spiritual nursing (F=2.58, p=0.010)'. After the major there were significant difference for 'feeling of health (F=4.76, p=0.001)'. 3. The death orientation scores before the major showed an inverse correlation with religiosity score (r=-0.239, p=0.006). After the major there was no correlation with religion.

PURPOSE: This study was done for the purpose of comparing death orientation scores of nurses before and after a hospice training program. METHOD: The participants were 56 nurses who completed the hospice training program at C university in Kwang Ju city. The data were gathered from October 2001 to December 2002 by questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using frequency, paired t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficients. RESULTS: The mean scores for death orientation before and after hospice training were mid range scores of 57.2 and 57.0 respectively and this difference was not significant. The death orientation score before hospice training was significantly different according to the 'work place (F=3.16, p=.033)' of nurses but after the hospice training there was no significant difference for any of the general characteristics. The death orientation scores before and after hospice training showed no correlation with the religiosity score either. CONCLUSION: Considering the mid range scores and the lack of significant difference after the intervention, this study shows that there is a need to analyze the content of hospice education programs and the need to change death orientation. This is especially true when the participants are professional hospice nurses who are being prepared to give care to people who are dying. In order to develop more appropriate programs there is a need to examine the process by which nurses come to view death more positively.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate satisfaction with and perception of the school meal service according to middle school students and dieticians/dietetic teachers in Gwangju area who experienced change to the free meal service and the main contents were as follows. METHODS: The research subjects were 197 students (99 boys and 98 girls) and 42 dieticians/dietetic teachers were recruited. RESULTS: Compared to the free meal service before, satisfaction of students was high (53.8%), and 69.9% of students said there was no change in the school meals, however a significant difference was observed between gender. Overall 80.2% of middle school students said that there was no change in menu, 70.6% were no change in the frequency of food with high preference, and 64.0% were no change in leftover of meals. 85.7% of dieticians/dietetic teachers said that there was no change in the student's satisfaction according to the conversion of free meal services; 59.5% of dieticians/dietetic teachers said that there was no change in the frequency of foods with high preference, the variety of vegetables was increased in the qualitative change item of food materials, and 95% of them were not aware of change in the amount of students' leftover foods. Dieticians/dietetic teachers had limitations in selecting menus with purchase and costs of food materials (26.2%) by conversion of the free meal service and their priority considered was the food cost (45.2%) when they selected menus. Change in feeding affairs was office work management (26.2%) and recipe research and development (19.0%). CONCLUSION: With the results of this study, the satisfaction with the school meal service was not changed in the awareness of students and dieticians/dietetic teachers. Therefore further study is needed to determine the middle school's satisfaction with school meals based on a variety of factors including the environmental food meal services.

We report here estimating a victim who might be involved 5.18 Kwang Ju democratic movement in 1980. One skeletonized skull and mandible were sent for examination to see if any information could be elicited which might aid in search for the missing person. The examination was made on the usual lines, first to ascertain the sex, age, etc., then any particular features which might lead to identification, the circumstances of death and the length of time since the death took place. From the examination of the specimen it could reasonably be assumed (1) that the fracture of teeth and alveolar bone due to trauma which was speedily and strong (2) that the skull and mandible were belong to one person, (3) that the specimen was an adult man about 42 years old, (4) that he was dead before 6 years ago as a result of racemization. This paper indicates that forensic odontology examination have another valuable means of identification, i.e. dental age estimation, time interval since death, analysis of trauma in oral and facial region. This information can help in attempting to establish not only the personal identification but also the circumstances of death.
