Objective To investigate the prevalence of depression and its risk factors in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was used to evaluate depression in 2 966 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients [ male 1 463,female 1 503,age ( 56.4 ± 11.2 ) years, diabetes duration ( 6.3 ± 5.7 ) years ].Depression criteria:≤4 points,no depression group; 5-13 points, mild depression group; 14-20 points, moderate depression group; 21 points or higher, severe depression group.Meanwhile, the demographic and metabolic data and diabetes-related health behaviors were also investigated. The risk factors associated with depression were screened by logistic regression. Results 51% patients had depression, including 38% with mild,8% with moderate, and 5% with severe depression.Compared with no depression group, depression was correlated with female sex,low-annual income, diabetes education, diabetes treatment, with insulin and peripheral neuropathy( P<0.01 ).More smoking and younger age were found in severe depression( P<0.05 ).Partial correlation analysis showed that depression in type 2 diabetes mellitus was positively correlated with female sex, diabetes education, and peripheral neuropathy ; and negatively correlated with age (P<0.05).Conditional logistic regression equation showed that gender( OR =1.37 ),age ( 20-40 years,OR =1.52 ),diabetes education ( OR =1.51 ),and peripheral neuropathy ( OR =1.87 ) were risk factors for depression. Conclusion Depression is common in type 2 diabetes mellitus.More attention should be paid to screening depression in clinical practice.

A new type of piezoelectric oscillation-based non-contact spotting mode has been developed to overcome the disadvantages of traditional non-contact spotting modes including complicated operation procedure, cleaning difficulty of spotting needle, large sample consumption of electromagnetic microvalve and high spotting cost of piezoelectric inkjet based non-contact spotting mode. In the device, the capillary spotting needle and the piezoelectric driving device are two independent units used for replacing and cleaning capillary spotting needle. The glass capillary spotting needle is prepared by the laser melting method with adjustable diameter and low cost. The sample spotting volume of the device can be easily adjusted in the range of 10Symbolm_10-10Symbolm_9 by changing the amplitude and frequency of piezoelectric ceramic. A microarray spotting system is developed by the combination of the piezoelectric oscillation-based non-contact spotting mode and three dimensional precision displacement control technology. The multiple parameters of as-prepared microarray spotting system have been tested including spotting volume, density of spot and spotting precision. The experimental results indicate that the minimum volume of single spot with 320 pL and the highest density of spot with 4000 spots/cm2 can be achieved by the as-prepared microarray spotting system. Furthermore, the as-prepared microarray spotting system can also be employed to fabricate patterned interface.

Objective To evaluate the effects of isoflurane postconditioning on mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) in brain tissues of neonatal rats with hypoxic-ischemic brain injury. Methods One hundred and twenty 7-day-old Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 12-16 g,were randomly divided into 4 groups (n =30 each) using a random number table:sham operation group (group S),isoflurane group (group I),hypoxicischemic brain injury group (group HIBI),and hypoxic-ischemic brain injury + isoflurane postconditioning group (group HI).To establish hypoxic-ischemic brain injury model in the neonatal rats, the left common carotid artery ligation was carried out,and then the rats were exposed to 8% O2 + 92% N2 at 37 ℃ for 2 h in HIBI and HI groups. The rats inhaled 1.5 % isoflurane for 30 min after the model was established in group HI.The rats only inhaled 1.5% isoflurane for 30 min in group I.At 24 h after the model was established,10 rats taken out randomly in each group were sacrificed and brains were removed to detect mPTP opening. At 7 days after the model was established, the survival rate was recorded in the rest rats. The rats were then sacrificed and brains were removed and the right and left cerebral hemispheres were weighed separately, and the ratio between left/right cerebral hemispheres was calculated. The density of normal neurons in ventral posterior inferior thalamic nucleus and hippocampal CA3 region in the left and right cerebral hemispheres were measured and the ratios of the density of normal neurons in the left to right cerebral hemisphere were calculated. Results There was no significant difference in the survival rate between the four groups (P > 0.05).Compared with group S,the ratios of the density of normal neurons in the left to right cerebral hemisphere, weight of left cerebral hemisphere, and ratio between left/right cerebral hemispheres were significantly decreased, and mPTP opening was increased in group HIBI (P < 0.05),and no significant changes were found in the parameters mentioned above in group I (P > 0.05).Compared with group HIBI,the ratios of the density of normal neurons in the left to right cerebral hemisphere, weight of left cerebral hemisphere, and ratio between left/right cerebral hemispheres were significantly increased, and mPTP opening was decreased in group HI (P < 0.05).Conclusion The mechanism by which isoflurane postconditioning reduces hypoxic-ischemic brain injury may be related to inhibition of mPTP opening in brain tissues of neonatal rats.

Objective To assay the plasma omentin level in patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) combined with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and investigate the relationship between plasma omentin level, glucose and lipid metabolism, insulin resistance and NAFLD.Methods The plasma omentin level was assayed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in all subjects, including patients of T2DM controls with NAFLD (group A,50 cases),T2DM without NAFLD (group B,50 cases),simple with NAFLD(group C,51 cases) and normal controls (group D,49 cases).Meanwhile, blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c),lipids and insulin levels were also measured.Body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio were evaluated.Insulin sensitivity was assessed by HOMA-IR.Results The plasma omentin level was (17.85 ±3.68),(13.89 ±10.68),(26.05 ±7.26) and (22.92 ±2.71)μg/L in group A,B,C and D respectively. The plasma omentin level of group A and group B was significantly lower than that of group C and group D(P < 0.05).The plasma omentin level of group A was higher than that of group B (P < 0.05).The plasma omentin level of group C was higher than that of group D (P< 0.05).Correlation analysis showed that the plasma omentin level was negatively correlated to weight,BMI,waist, triglyceride, fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin (FINS) and HOMA-IR (P <0.05 or <0.01),and positively correlated to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)(P <0.01).Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that BMI,HOMA-IR and FINS was independent variable of omentin. The concentration of omentin was 24.82 μ g/L which could predict the risk of NAFLD in people with normal glucose regulation. Conclusions The plasma omentin level is closely correlated with glucose, lipid metabolism and insulin resistance.Plasma omentin may play an important role in the pathogenesis of T2DM and NAFLD.
