Objective To investigate the relationship between the gene polymorphism of TLR3c.1377,TLR9-1486,and TLR9 2848 and susceptibility to multiple sclerosis(MS)in Han people of south China. Methods A total of 123 unrelated MS patients from South China with a clinical or laboratory definition MS according to 2005 Revisions to the McDonald Criteria were studied. Another 126 controls were randomly selected from hospital staff of non-autoimmune diseases and healthy individuals. Toll like receptor (TLR) 3 and TLR 9 genotypes were determined by PCR and digested by specific restriction enzymes. Results There was significant difference in genotype and allele distribution of TLR3c.1377 polymorphism between the MS patients and the controls (P<0.05), and the MS patients with T allele had a lower risk (OR=0.532, P=0.014). There was no significant difference in genotypes and allele distribution of TLR9-1486 polymorphism between the MS patients and the controls. There was higher TLR9 2848 A allele frequency in the MS patients than in the controls ((39.8%) vs. 30.6%;P=0.037), and higher risk in MS patients with A allele than those without ((OR=)(1.837), P=0.020). There was no significant interaction among the TLR3c.1377, TLR9-1486 and TLR9 2848 allele. Strong linkage disequilibrium was found between TLR9-1486 and TLR9 2848, but there was no significant interaction between the polymorphism of TLR9-1486 and TLR9 2848 in the MS patients. Conclusion TLR3c.1377 and TLR9 2848 polymorphisms may be related to MS in Han people in south China. TLR3c.1377 and TLR9 2848 may be linked with susceptibility genes.

Acta Anatomica Sinica 1957;0(04):-
The contents of dopamine (DA) and its metabolites, homovanillic acid (HVA) and 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid(DOPAC), in both striata were determined with HPLC-EC technique in each of 28 albino rats, which were divided into 3 groups (bilateral lesioned, unilateral lesioned and healthy control groups). Among the unilateral lesioned rats, three indices such as DA, HVA/DA and DOPAC/DA in the lesioned striata were 22.27%, 420.00% and 199.75% of those of the intact striata, respectively. This suggests that there may be an enhanced compensatory DA release in the striatum ipsilateral to the lesion of the rat. Having compared the lesioned striata of unilateral lesioned rats with those of bilateral lesioned animals, and the intact striata of unilateral lesioned rats with those of the control ones, we did not find any significant differences in DA, HVA/DA or DOPAC/DA. The result implies that the compensatory DA release in the lesioned striatum probably accounts for the mechanism of the ipsilateral nigrostriatal system, not for the crossed nigrostriatal fibers.

Objective To evaluate the immediate and short term therapeutic efficacy of percutaneous transluminal septal myocardial ablation (PTSMA) in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) and to investigate the prevention of the related complications. Methods PTSMA was conducted in 3 patients with HOCM refractory to medication. The immediate effect was evaluated by pressure monitor, but the follow up effect by observation of the clinical symptoms and ultrasonic cardiogram. Results The left ventricular outflow tract gradients triggered by ventricular premature beats decreased from 143 mmHg (ranging from 70 to 180 mmHg) to 53 mmHg (ranging from 30 to 80 mmHg). Complete atrioventricular block (Ⅲ?AVB) with atrioventricular node rhythm was found in 1 case, and complete right branch bundle block (CRBBB) in another one. Follow up of the 3 cases at 6 months after operation revealed remarkable improvement of the patients' cardiac function (NYHA), disappearance of angina pectoris, and obvious attenuation of ventricular septal hypertrophy and SAM (systolic anterior motion of mitral) phenomenon. Conclusion PTSMA is an effective method with satisfactory short term effect for the patients with HOCM refractory to medication.

Objective To explore the method of Oncomelania hupensis snail surveillance in transmission?interrupted re?gions of schistosomiasis,so as to provide a new pattern for the surveillance of snail status in the transmission?interrupted areas. Methods In Dongtai County, north of Jiangsu Province where the transmission of schistosomiasis was interrupted, the surveil?lance of snail status was performed by means of the village?level general survey, village?level sampling survey, snail survey in key settings of township and county, and snail reporting by residents. In addition, quality?control snail sites were set up for quali?ty control. The effectiveness and cost of the four methods of snail surveillance was compared. Results A total of 163 079 set?tings and 22 785.62 hm2 were surveyed in Dongtai County from 2008 to 2013,and 89 residual snail breeding sites were found, with a snail area of 1.48 hm2. The patterns of village?level general survey, village?level sampling survey, and snail survey in key settings of township and county were employed for investigation of 94 550,45 033 and 23 496 settings, consisting of 57.98%, 27.61%and 14.41%of total settings, and 2,0 and 6 settings were found with snails, with 0.021/thousand,0,and 0.255/thou?sand detection rates of settings with snail breading sites, respectively. The pattern of snail survey in key settings of township and county was more effective than that of village?level survey to detect snail breeding sites(χ2 =19.158,P=0). The recovery rate of quality?control snail breeding sites was 52.56%,38.27%and 73.62%for the three patterns of snail survey, respectively, and the pattern of snail survey in key settings of township and county showed a higher quality for snail survey than that of village?lev?el survey(χ2 =111.597 and 85.991,both P=0). During the period from 2008 to 2013,289 person?times reported 279 sus?pected snail habitats and 1 501 living snails, and no Oncomelania snails were found. During the 6?year period, there were 1617.5,964.7 and 527.7 thousand RMB invested for village?level general survey, village?level sampling survey, and snail sur?vey in key settings of township and county, and the cost of snail survey per hm2 was 129.88,133.6 and 162.57 RMB/hm2,re?spectively. The cost of village?level general survey and snail survey in key settings of township and county to detect a snail?breed?ing site was 808 800 and 88 000 RMB,respectively(t=12.850,P=0.000),and the cost of snail survey in key settings of town?ship and county was 10.88%of that of village?level general survey. Conclusion The snail survey in key settings of township and county is a highly effective and high?quality method for snail surveillance, which may serve as a prior way for the surveil?lance of snail status in the transmission?interrupted areas of schistosomiasis.
