Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 2004;0(06):-
Objective: To investigate the effect of zinc sulfate and zinc methionine on growth and their possible regulating mechanism in mice. Method: Ninety male KM mice were randomly divided into three groups. The control group was fed on basal diet containing zinc of 11. 67 mg/kg 10d. The ZnSO4 group and Zn-Met group were fed on the diets supplemented with ZnSO4 or Zn-Met at 30 mg/kg(on the basis of Zn) for 10 d. Initial and final body weight, serum zinc concentration, growth hormone (GH),the levels of growth hormone receptor (GHR) and insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) mRNA were determined. Results: Both ZnSO4 and Zn-Met enhanced body weight and serum zinc concentration of mice,Zn-Met more effectively than ZnSO4 for body weight . Both forms of zinc had no effect on GH and the expression of GHR mRNA , but both up-regulated the expression of IGF-1 mRNA. As compared to ZnSO4, Zn-Met enhanced the level of IGF-1 mRNA significantly. Conclusion: Both ZnSO4 and Zn-Met had no effect on GH and the expression of GHR Mrna, but enhanced the expression of IGF-1 mRNA. Zn-Met enhanced the body weight gain and up-regulated IGF-1 mRNA expression more effectively than ZnSO4.

BACKGROUND: Studieshave shown that long time of warm ischemia or cold preservation would injury the biliary tract in liver transplantation. However, whether relative warm ischemia (RWI) of biliary tract would result in bile component changes is unclearly. OBJECTIVE: To establish auto-liver transplantation bile ducts RWI models, observe the effects of RWI on the bile salts and phospholipid concentration secreted by the donor liver, and to study the correlation between the total bile salt/phosphoUpid ratio (TBA, PL ratio) and billary tract injury. METHODS: A total of 32 SD rats were selected for auto-liver transplantation models with bile ducts RWI, and the rats were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=8). In Group Ⅰ (sham operation group), rats only received liver dissociation without any cold reperfusion. The RWI time of Group Ⅱ,Ⅲ, and Ⅳ were 0 minutes, 30 minutes and 60 minutes, respectively. The concentration of TBA in bile was measured with enzymatic cycling assay, andPL with enzymic colorimetric. Pathological observation with light microscope and ultrastructural observation with transmission electron microscope were performed on the hilar bile duct. The endothelial cell apoptosis was detected with TUNEL assay. The correlation between TBA, PL ratio and biliary injury was analyzed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: One rat died, the other 31 rats were included in the final analysis. RWI could change the composition of bile secreted by donor liver, raise the TBA/PL ratio, and increase the bile toxicity. These changes had a positive correlation to RWI time, and the changes were obviously with time prolonged. In addition, the changes are closely related to the biliary tract injury. This study shows an important mechanism of the biliary tract injury caused by RWI-injury.

Objective To evaluate the clinical value of co-observation of the expression of MAGE-A3 gene and MDR1 gene on esti-mating the curative effect in non M3-subtype acute leukemia. Methods Expressions of MAGE-A3 and MDRI were measured in 77 patients with non M3-subtype acute leukemia by RT-PCR method. Clinical observation was done to estimate the relationship between the genes with curative effect in non M3-subtype acute leukemia. Results Expression of MAGE-A3 and MDRI gene were 50. 6% and 23. 3% in non M3-subtype acute leukemia patients. Positive expression of MDRI in MAGE-A3-positive and negative patients were 46. 2% and 13. 2% (P < 0.01). The complete remission rate in MAGE-A3 negative and positive patients were 86. 8% and 64. I% (P <0. 05). Complete remission (CR) rate in MDR1 negative and positive patients was 83.3% and 56. 5% (P <0. 05). Complete remission rate were 87.9% and 55.6% in beth negative and both positive expression of MAGE-A3 and MDR1 (P < 0. 05). Conclusion The patients of positive expression of MAGE-A3 in non M3-subtype AL had higher expression of MDR1. The patients with negative expression of beth MAGE-A3 and MDR1 had higher CR rate than that in both positive patients. These researches indicated that eo-observatian of the expression of MAGE-A3 and MDR1 can predict the curative effect in non M3-subtype AL.

BACKGROUND: Artificial humeral head replacement is an effective method for the treatment of complex proximal humeral fractures, which has received good results in relieving pain. However, the final functional recovery is unpredictable. OBJECTIVE: To compare biomeshanical stability between anatomical and overlapping reconstruction of the greater tuberosity in cadaveric humeral head replacement models.METHODS: Eight pairs of fresh-frozen shoulder cadavers (16 shoulder joints) were match-paired into two groups. Standardized humeral head replacement procedure was performed in all specimens, and anatomical and overlapping reconstruction of thegreater tuberosity was adopted in each group respectively. For overlapping group, the greater tuberosity was reattached to the proximal humeral shaft in an overlapping style, which was achieved by an additional 5 mm bone osteotomized from the medial cortex of the humeral diaphysis. Custom mounting apparatus and fixation jigs were designed for designated shoulder motion.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: When the shoulder was external rotated to neutral position, the mean displacement of greater tuberosity in the anatomical reconstruction group was smaller than that of the overlapping reconstruction group (P < 0.05). When the gleno-humeral joint was elevated to 30~ and 60~ forward flexion (accounting for 45° and 90° shoulder forward flexion), there was no significant difference of greater tuberosity displacement between the anatomical group and overlapping group. The findings demonstrated that, although overlapping reconstruction can increase the bone healing area between the greater tuberosity and the humeral diaphysis, there may be some loss in mechanical stability as the trade-off. Even though we strictly follow the standardized postoperative rehabilitation protocol after humeral head replacement, prominent displacement between the greater tuberosity relative to the humeral diaphysis was detected. Accordingly, postponing of the postoperative rehabilitation program after humeral head replacement for a decent period may improve tuberosity healing.
