Objective To evaluate the curative effect of laparoscopic Palomo operation compared with open inguinal varicocelectomy in children with varicocele, and testis development after treatment. Methods Data of 63 boys with varicocele were reviewed. The control group(n = 29) was underwent open inguinal varicocelectomy, the lap-aroscopy group(n =34) was underwent laparoscopic Palomo operation. The operation time, hospital stay, recurrence rate, and complications rate were compared between two groups. The boys in larparoscopy group were examined the diameter of spermatic vein and testicular volume before and after operation by ultrasound. All data were analyzed by SPSS 13.0 software. Results The hospital stays and recurrence rates and complications rates were significantly different between two groups (P < 0.05 ) , but the operation time in two groups had no statisticd difference (P > 0. 05 ). The diameters of spermatic vein in larparoscopy group were decreased significantly after operation (P < 0.01). The blood supply for testis didnt decrease after operation, the operative lateral testicular volume grew faster than the contra lateral, and reached almost the same volume. Conclusions Laparoscopic Paloma varicoelectomy was safe and simple, brings a better effect for children with varicocele than open inguinal varicocelectomy does. The operative lateral testis would a postoperative compensatory growth,no testis atrophy or hypogonadism occurs.

Objective To explore the mechanism of the rat hyperplasia suppressor gene (rHSG) inhibited proliferation in C6 rat glioma cells. Methods C6 cells were cultured in vitro and transduced with the adenovirus vector which carried rHSG gene (Adv-rHSG-GFP). The transduction efficiency of adenovirus vector was measured by inverted microscope and flow cytometry in C6 cells. Flow cytometry was used to analyze the C6 cells cycle. Western blot was adopted to test the change of rHSG protein expression, the protein of cancer suppressor gene P53, cell cycle control protein of P21cip1, phosphorylation and non-phosphorylation retinoblastoma proteins (p-Rb, Rb). Results The adenovirus can insert the target gene into the genome of C6 target cell efficiently. The expression level of rHSG protein of Adv-rHSG-GFP group is obviously higher than that of PBS Group and Adv-GFP group. Meanwhile, the over-expressed C6 cells of rHSG that arrest in G0/G1 phase are largely increased (P < 0.01). Besides, there is a large increase in the protein expression of P53 and P21cip1 (P < 0.01), decrease in the expression of p-Rb (P < 0.01) and no significant change in the expression of Rb (P < 0.05). Conclusion rHSG might inhibit the proliferation of C6 rat glioma cells through P53-P21cip1 pathway.

This study was designed to evaluate the gastroprotective activity of cirsilineol in hydrochloric acid (HCl)/ethanol-induced gastric ulcer model. Cirsilineol was administered at the doses of 20 and 40 mg/kg in HCl/ethanol-induced rats. The gastroprotective ability was verified by determining the ulcer score, total acidity, hemoglobin, inflammatory cytokines, lipid peroxides, and enzymatic antioxidants superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in gastric tissue and serum biochemical analysis. The results showed a favorable increase in the hemoglobin level, antioxidant enzymes (SOD and CAT), restored electrochemical balance (carbon dioxide & anion gap) while a noticeable decrease in ulcer index, total acidity, lipid peroxides, inflammatory cytokines (interleukin-1 beta [IL-1β], IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor alpha) in rats treated with the cirsilineol. The serum biochemical analysis on liver markers (alkaline phosphatases, alanine aminotransferase, and aspartate aminotransferase), kidney markers (urea, creatinine, albumin, globulin, total protein), and lipid profile (triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein, total cholesterol) were attenuated by cirsilineol treatment in rats. Histopathology showed enhanced gastric protection and preserved the integrity of gastric mucosa upon cirsilineol administration. These results ultimately suggest that cirsilineol has gastroprotective effects that prevent the development of gastric ulcer.
