Objective To study the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of colorectal malignant melanoma. Methods Six cases of colorectal malignant melanoma diagnosed and treated in our department between 1981 and 1996 were reviewed and underwent follow-up.Results All cases had masses that could be found near dentate line in digital examination and were black or brown in color. All patients underwent operations ,operations abdomino-perineal resection for 2 cases, post pelvic excision for 2 cases, enlarged local resection for 1 case and laporotomy for 1 case.Either lymph node metastasis or liver metastasis were found prior to or during operation. All patients died within 5~23 months after being diagnosed, with average survival time of 14.7 months. Conclusions Colorectal malignant melanoma was rare and was highly of malignant with tendency of early metastasis and poor prognosis. Radical surgery combined with chemotherapy, immunotherapy and biotherapy may be effective.

Objective:To establish the cisplatin-resistant human lung adenocarcinoma cell line A549/(DDP) cisplatin and to study the relationship between EHD2 and drug resistance. Methods:DDP-resistant human lung cancer cell line A549/DDP was established by gradual and stepwise dose enhancement. MTT was used to measure drug sensitivity. Western blot and immunofluorescence were used to evaluate expression and subcellular localization of EHD2 and breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP). Results:The DDP-resistant cell line A549/DDP was established, with a resistance index of 7.6. EHD2 and BCRP expressions both increased and were enriched on the cell surface membrane. Conclusion:Both EHD2 and BCRP expressions were enriched on the resistant cell surface membrane, suggesting that EHD2 endocytic protein stabilizes BCRP and is involved in drug resistance.

Objective To evaluate the early appearance of SARS on chest CT scan and its role in the early diagnosis Methods Forty cases of SARS in keeping with the criteria of the Ministry of Health had chest CT scans within 7 days of onset of symptoms, and CR chest X-ray films were available as well These chest X-rays and CT images were retrospectively reviewed to determine if there were any abnormalities on the images The lesions on the chest CT images were then further analyzed in terms of the number, location, size, and density Results Positive abnormalities on chest CT scans were revealed in all 40 SARS cases Positive findings on CR chest films were showed in only 25 cases, equivocal in 6, and normal in 9 cases The main abnormalities seen on CT and X-rays were pulmonary infiltrations varied markedly in severity 70% cases had 1 or 2 lesions on chest CT scan, 30% cases had 3 or more lesions The lesions seen on chest CT scan tended to be ground-glass opacification, sometimes with consolidation which was very faint and inhomogeneous, easily missed on chest X-rays Typically the lesions were located in the periphery of the lung, or both central and peripheral lung, but very rare in a pure central location They were commonly in the shape of patch or ball Conclusions Chest CT scan is much more sensitive in detecting the lesions of the lung in SARS The early appearance of SARS on chest CT scan is characteristic but non-specific, indicating that chest CT scan plays a very important role in the early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of SARS

OBJECTIVESTo detect aberrant p16 promoter methylation in serum of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), and to explore the possibility of using this assay in early detection or as a prognostic marker.
METHODSMethylation-specific PCR was used to detect p16 methylation in DNA extracted from 52 CRCs and corresponding serum samples. Serum samples from 34 patients with adenomatous polyps and 10 healthy individuals were used as controls. The association of p16 hypermethylation in serum DNA of CRC patients with clinicopathological characteristics was analyzed.
RESULTSp16 methylation was found in 38% (20 of 52) of CRC tissues. Among the 20 patients with aberrant methylation in the tumor tissues, similar changes were also detected in the serum of 14 (70%) patients. No methylated p16 sequences were detected in the peripheral serum of the 32 CRC patients without these changes in the tumor, in 34 paitents with adenomatous polyps, or in 10 healthy controls. Clinicopathological analysis revealed that p16 methylation in serum was significantly associated with later Dukes' stage (chi(2) = 5.7, P = 0.03).
CONCLUSIONThis assay offers a potential means for the serum-based detection and/or monitoring of CRC patients.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of antofloxacin hydrochloride tablet for the treatment of acute bacterial infections. Methods A multi-center randomized control, double blind and double dummy clinical trial was conducted; levofloxacin tablet was chosed as controlled drug. The duration of treatment was 7-14 days in both groups. Results A total of 719 patients were enrolled in the study, in which 359 patients treated with antofloxacin and 360 patients treated with levofloxacin were included. Three hundred and thirty and 337 patients completed the study and met with all the criteria for perprotocol analysis, respectively. By the end of chemotherapy, the cured rates in per protocol set (PPS)population were 79.7% and 77.4%, the effective rates were 95.2% and 96. 7%, and the bacterial clearance were 96. 7% and 97. 5% for the treating and control group, respectively. The clinical and bacterial efficacy of antofloxacin and levofloxacin was comparable by the analysis of infectious sites. Three hundred and fifty-seven and 356 patients in antofloxacin and levofloxacin groups were evaluated the safety. The drug adverse events occurred both in 10. 1%, and drug adverse reactions accurred in 7. 8% and 7.9%patients in the two groups. The most common drug adverse reactions were mild gastroenteric symptoms. No QTc prologation was detected in all the patients. One patient in each group had mild blood glucose increase at the end of therapy, but the glucose returned to normal level without any intervention. No statistic significant difference between the two groups in clinical efficacy and safety was detected (P>0.05).Conclusions Antofloxacin hydrochloride tablet was effective and safe for the treatment of acute bacterial infections.

Objective To understand the prevalence of alcohol dependence in individuals living in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region,China. Methods From July 2007 to December 2007,21290 subjects aged more than 15 were randomly selected for 6 Prefecture-level cities and 10 counties by stratified multi-stage cluster sampling method. All subjects were investigated by face to face interview. The Chinese version of Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI3.0) Provided by the Chinese Center for Disease Control And Prevention was used as the screening tool and the diagnoses were made with the 10th edition of international classification of Disease Criteria. Results 18 219 subjects completed the screening, the Completion rate was 85.58‰. The general point prevalence and the general lifetime prevalence of alcohol dependence in individuals living in Guangxi was both 4.50‰. The general lifetime prevalence was higher in rural (6.17‰) than in urban (1.85‰) ( RR =0.31,95% CI =0. 17 ~0.57, P=0. 000) ,higher in men (8.59‰) than in women (0. 33‰) ( RR =0.04,95% CI =0. 01 ~ 0.13, P = 0.000 ) and higher in Zhuang (9.63‰) than in Han(1.95‰) ( RR = 5. 01,95% CI = 3.02 ~8.34, P = 0.000). The lifetime prevalence of alcohol dependence tends upwards as age increasing (P<0.05 ) and it differs in different marital status, higher in divorce groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion Schizophrenia, Depression disorder, Alcohol dependence disorder are the most common mental disorders and have become the public health problem in Guangxi. To do this,it is necessary to carry out targeted research in prevention and rehabilitation.
