Journal of Practical Stomatology 2000;0(06):-
Objective:To compare the effect of intraoral and extraoral approach for the sugical treatment of mandibular cysts in the angle and ramus. Methods:Cysts in the mandibular angle and ramus were treated by intraoral approach in 57 cases and extraoral in 18 cases. The following data were collected: operation time, peroperative blood loss, postoperative infection, mouth opening, recurrence rate, injury of the submandibular branch of the facial nerve and sensory function of the inferior alveolar nerve. The data of the two groups were compared statistically. Results:Average operation time (min) of intraoral and extraoral appoarch was 84.65?5.16 and 122.78?10.84(P0.05). Conclusion:Intraoral approach is effective in the treatment of cyst in mandibular angle and ramus.

Objective To compare the diagnostic value of CT and NE for lesions of nasal cavity and paranasal sinus area. Methods 80 cases of nasal and paranasal sinus diseases which were examined by both CT and NE at same period and proved by pathology.were reviewed. Results Compare with results of pathology, the accucy rate of both CT and NE was identical in diagnosing sinusitis and tumours of paranasal sinus,NE was higher than CT in nasal and paranasal sinus polyp and nasal cavity tumour, turbinate hyperplasia CT was higher than NE in paranasal sinus cyst and anatomic variations. Conclusion Pathologic biopsy can be taken under NE guide to understand the shape, texture and colour of the illness focus CT can show the size, shape and anatomy relation between lesion and its neighbor tissue. The diagnosis may more perfectly through NE combined with CT.

Objective To determine whether the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) selective inhibitor,{N-[2-(cyclohexyloxy)-4-nitrophenyl]-methane sulfonamide} (NS398),can inhibit proliferation of COX-2 negatively expressed human prostate cancer cell line PC-3 and induce its apoptosis in vitro. Methods The expression of COX-2 in cultured PC-3 cells was examined by RT-PCR and Western blot for mRNA and protein respectively. The proliferative inhibition of PC-3 cells by NS398 was observed by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) rapid photocolorimetric assay.PC-3 cells cultured in 100 ?mol/L NS398 medium for 24 h was marked with AnnexinV-FITC and PI for the cell apoptosis assay by flow cytometry. Results COX-2 was not expressed in PC-3 cell line at either mRNA or protein level. The inhibitory rate of NS398 on proliferation increased with the increasing concentration but was not time-dependent.Compared with the controls (10.563?2.582)%,PC-3 cells cultured in 100?mol/L NS398 medium for 24 h had significantly higher incidence (19.307?3.773)%] Objective To determine whether the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) selective inhibitor,{N-[2-(cyclohexyloxy)-4-nitrophenyl]-methane sulfonamide} (NS398),can inhibit proliferation of COX-2 negatively expressed human prostate cancer cell line PC-3 and induce its apoptosis in vitro. Objective To compare the short-term follow-up cu ra tive effect of primary total hip replacement (THR) in treating fresh and old fem oral neck fractures. Methods Double follow-ups with an in terval of 13 months were performed in patients with femoral neck fractures under going THR in our department from January 1997 to October 1999. Results After a follow-up for 37-62 months (mean 44 months), we obtained f ull data of 47 patients [41-77 years old, (61.8?5.22) years old] with preoperative Harris score of 28.40?10.14 and postoperative score of 85.20?7. 91. The Harris score of patients with fresh femoral neck fractures (FFNF) incr eased from 21.60?8.73 preoperatively to 82.50?9.81 postoperatively〔at age of (63.50?5.53) years〕 and that of patients with old femoral neck fracture (O FNF) from 37.70?13.50 to 90.63?5.79, [at age of (58.90?7.81) years]. Of 47 patients, only one case had dislocation once within six weeks postoperative ly during function exercise and recovered after manual reduction. Another one wi th excellent function evaluation was given again internal fixation three years a fter THR because of femoral shaft fracture and obtained satisfactory recovery. N o complications were found in other patients. The mean Harris score in patients with OFNF was significantly higher than those with FFNF ( P

Objective To evaluate the clinical features, diagnosis, and outcome of the treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis, and the relationship between CMV retinitis and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Methods A total of 95 eyes of 56 patients with cytomegalovirus retinitis and AIDS were studied. The fundus feature, visual acuity and CD4 + T lymphocyte counts were analyzed and the follow up periods ranged from 2 weeks to 18 months. Results Before the definitive diagnosis of CMV retinitis, the courses of AIDS were 4 to 26 months in all patients. In the initial examination, the granular form of CMV retinal lesion was noted in 55 eyes (57%) in which retinal lesion of 46 eyes was peripheral. The fulminant form of CMV retinitis of 25 eyes (26%) was found in the posterior pole and consisted of densely opaque retinal lesions with blotchy hemorrhage and vasculitis. The overlap between these two presentations was noted in 15 eyes. Papillitis was observed in 7 eyes of CMV retinitis in this series of patients. The visual acuity ranged from finger counting to 0.5. The patients with extensive CMV retinitis or CMV retinitis in the posterior pole got poorer vision. The CD4 + T lymphocyte counts of 30 patients was 0 30 (mean, 15?9/?l), and the survival time ranged from 2 weeks to 18 months (mean, 6.4?3.3 months). The vision was improved and CD4 + T lymphocyte counts was significantly higher in the group treated with ganciclovir, and progression of CMV retinitis occured and the vision decreased in the non treated group. Conclusion CMV retinitis is the most common intraocular complication in patients with AIDS. Diagnosis of CMV retinitis is based on the characteristic of necrotizing retinitis which was typically associated with retinal hemorrhage and vasculitis. Ganciclovir is effective for the treatment of CMV retinitis.

ObjectiveTo analyze the protective effects of heat-shock response on the retinae of the rats after retinal ischemic reperfusion injury. MethodTwenty Wistar rats (20 eyes) were divided into 4 groups: intracameral perfusion group (group P), intracameral perfusion after quercetin injection group (group P+Q), intracameral perfusion after heat shock group (group P+H), and intracameral perfusion after quercetin injection and heat shock group (group P+Q+H). According to the standard program established by International Society for Clinical Visual Electrophysiology, we recorded the results of the dark-adapted electroretinogram (D-ERG),oscillatory potentials (OPs),and light-adapted ERG (L-ERG) of the rats with intraocular hypertension after induced by heat shock response. The expressions of HSP 70 of the rats in all groups were observed by Western blotting.ResultsThe expression of HSP 70 of the rats in group P+H was the highest in all groups, but the expressions of HSP70 in group P+Q and P+Q+H were inhibited significantly. The amplitudes of a and b wave of ERG and O 2 wave of OPs decreased, and the delitescence of them were delayed significantly in rats after intracameral perfusion. The amplitude of b wave of D-ERG and O 2 wave of OPs in group P+H were higher than which in group P. Zero hour after perfusion, the amplitudes of all waves in group P+H increased significantly (P
