Objective To characterize the language development and articulation in children with different types of cerebral palsy. Methods The data from 76 children with cerebral palsy who underwent standardized tests of speech and language were analyzed. The incidence and abnormal pattern were compared between groups. ResultsLanguage delay and/or dysarthria were noted in 73.1% of these subjects. Children with diplegia developed similar levels both in comprehension and verbal expression, whereas those with tetraplegia and athetoid developed poorer verbal expression. The incidence of language delay in children with diplegia, tetraplegia and athetoid were 45.95%, 90% and 64.7%, respectively. Dysarthria was found in all the children with tetraplegia, athetoid and ataxia, but only 48.65% of those with diplegia. Conclusion Language disorders were common in children with cerebral palsy, especially those with athetoid and tetraplegia.

Objective To investigate thyroid hormone nuclear receptor expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and its relation with injury severity in patients with severe multiple trauma. Methods Twenty-eight patients with severe muhiple trauma and another 26 healthy subjects as control were enrolled in the study. At 2 days after injury, the levels of free triiodothyronine (FT3),free thyroxine (FT4) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in peripheral venous blood were determined by using immunoradiometry, and the expressions of mRNA of the thyroid nuclear receptors (TRα and TRβ) in PBMCs were measured by using real-time RT-PCR.Results FT3 concentration in peripheral venous blood was significantly decreased in patients with severe multiple trauma versus healthy subjects.Concurrently, the expressions of TR mRNA (TRα and TRβ) were significantly decreased in PBMCs of patients with severe multiple trauma compared with healthy subjects (TRα mRNA:3.86 ±0.54 vs.5.24 ± 1.17,P <0.05;TRβ mRNA:9.86±2.27 vs.13.57 ±2.45,P <0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that FT3 concentration and the expression of TRβ mRNA correlated negatively with injury severity score (ISS) in patients with severe multiple trauma (r=-0.445,-0.496,P=0.018,0.007).Conclusions These data provide the evidence of a lowered activity of the thyroid signaling pathway in PBMC and a significantly negative correlation between FT3 concentration and the expression of TRβ mRNA in respect of injury severity in patients with severe multiple trauma.Additional investigations are needed to further determine the roles of the thyroid signaling pathway in adverse outcomes in the wake of severe multiple trauma.

Objective: To study the affection of Diallyl trisulfide on cultured human colon carcinoma cell line HT-29 and its mechanism. Methods: The viability of cells after various treatments were determined using the method of MTT. Flow cytometry were used to analyze the change of cell cycle and Bcl-2, Bax levels. Results: The proliferation of human colon carcinoma HT-29 cells were inhibited by Diallyl trisulfide. The inhibition was associated with dose and time dependence. Flow cytometry results showed that: 1) When cells were treated with Diallyl trisulfide at the concentration of 10 ?g/mL for 12 h and 24 h, the percentage of G0/G1 phase cells was decreased and that of G2/M phase cells was significantly increased compared with those in the control group.2) Diallyl trisulfide down regulated Bcl expression, while up-regulated bax expression. Conclusions: It was suggested that Diallyl trisulfide inhibited HT29 cell proliferation. And these were associated with arrest of cell cycles and down regulation of Bcl2/Bax ratio.

Objective To investigate the effect of costimulatory molecules 4-1BB/4-1BBL on T cell activation with systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE)patients. Methods The expression of NF-kB mRNA and p38 MAPK mRNA of T cells with 20 SLE patients and 20 normal controls before activation, after activation and blocked bv 4-1BB/4-1BBL were detected bv RT-PCR.The protein levels of p-p38 MAPK and NF-kB were detected by Western blot. Results The expression of NF-kB mRNA and p38 MAPK mRNA and the protein expression of NF-kB and p-p38 MAPK of T cell with SLE patients were higher than that of normal controls(P<0.01).There were more expression of NF-kB mRNA,p38 MAPK mRNA,NF-kB protein and p-p38 MAPK protein of T cell with SLE patients stimulated by anti-CD3 monoantibody(P<0.01).In anti-4-1BB monoantibody blockage group, there were decreased expression of p38 MAPK mRNA and p-p38 MAPK protein(P<0.01).but not the decreased NF-kB mRNA and protein expression. Conclusion Costimulatory molecule 4-1BB plays a critical role in T cell activation of SLE by p38 MAPK signal pathway.

Objective To evaluate the clinical diagnosis value of 99mTc-single photon emission computed tomography(SPECT)brain blood perfusion imaging in intractable paroxysmal epilepsy and analyse the imaging character. Methods Two hundred and thirty-eight intractable paroxysmal epilepsy patients performed99mTc-SPECT,MRI,CT,and electroencephalogram(EEG).The results of examinations were ana lyzed and compared. Results The positive rate of epileptic focus in brain SPECT blood perfusion imaging in the generalized tonic-clonic seizure, absence seizure, partial seizure and complex partial seizure were 85.7%,95.7%,89.8%and 90.9%,the positive rate were much higher than those in other methods(P<0.01).The 23 patients with SPECT focus were carried on a-γ-knife treatment with follow-up for more than one year, and the efficient rate was 78.26%.Conclusions The detection sentivity of SPECT is distinctively higher than that in others.SPECT has an important clinical value to define target region of the stereotaxic radio surgery.

For patients with DTC,the side effect of 131I therapy on fertility and offspring is an important issue since genital tissues are highly sensitive to radiation.Exposure to 131 I radiation may result in transient impairment of gonadal function in male patients caused by elevated levels of serum follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, low sperm count and motility. In female patients, exposure to 131I radiation may be complicated with delay of menstruation, oligomenorrhea and transient cessation of menstrual period. Most of these symptoms may resolve within one year after 131 I therapy.A slightly earlier menopause is the only reported long-term side effect of 131I therapy on ovarian function.Currently available data do not indicate that exposure to 131I may cause permanent infertility in male patients with DTC.For female patients with DTC,131 I therapy does not affect fertility or pregnancy outcomes beyond one year.

AIM:To assess changes of tear film function in patients after pterygium excision combined with amniotic membrane transplantation.
METHODS:Totally 126 patients with pterygium excision with amniotic membrane transplantation from January 2011 to November 2013 were entered in the study. The tear breakup time ( BUT) , the Schirmer I test ( SⅠt) and tear ferning test ( TFT ) were elevated in the patients before and after pterygium excision combined with amniotic membrane transplantation. The examnation times were 1d before surgey, 1wk, 1, 2mo after surgery. Operation eyes were studied group, while opposite healthy eyes as control group.
RESULTS: Compared with the control group, BUT and TFT were significantly different in the eyes with pterygium (P<0. 05); However, no obvious difference was detected in the results of SⅠt (P>0. 05). The results of BUT and TFT at 1mo after surgery in study group were significantly better than 1wk (P<0. 05), while no significant difference compared with 2mo (P>0. 05); The tear film stability in the study group at 1wk after surgery was still inferior to the control group (P<0. 05) and there was no significant difference at 1, 2mo after surgery (P all>0. 05). SⅠt results did not differ between the different examination times(P>0. 05).
CONCLUSION:Tear film stability was broken in the eyes with pterygium. Pterygium excision combined with amniotic membrane transplantation can obviously restore the tear film function into normal state, and the tear film function could reach steady-state 1mo after surgery.
